They Haven't Gone Away

All signs on this cold Friday morning indicated that the crickets are gone, this afternoon when it warmed up, they were still here.  A couple of pictures show the grass and crickets.

It is hard to see the crickets in this photo.
Harder still in the photo.
I cut a lot of grass south of greenhouse six.  I may be able to get the lawn mower here. There were a lot of crickets in greenhouse five.  I killed some with a small garden broom rake.  I watered the plants in greenhouse six three times today.

Richard stopped by this evening on the way to Big Water.  He is going to the high school graduation a daughter of his friend. Carol made a kettle of Manti soup.  He and I had a bowel for supper.

The Crickets, still Here

When I got up this morning the crickets were gone except for a few.  It was cold all night.  After breakfast we watched the morning TV shows.  After I got the mail, we had lunch.  I then went out to greenhouse five.  Surprise, the crickets were back.  The temperature was much warmer, and the crickets began to move.  There were thousands of them.  After lunch I began cutting tall wild rye.  It was tall as shoulders.

This a wide path that I made south of greenhouse six.  There were lots of crickets there.
They were even on top of greenhouse six that was painted white.    I also cut grassy weeds in the native garden by the road.   Last year I planted strawberries in a raised bed.  Now they are flowering and have some small strawberries.  The bed was full of wild lettuce plants.  I dug all of them out. I put on the sprinkler and gave them a good watering.   I also watered the garlic plants.  Last year I cut off the stem end of four sweet potatoes and planted them in a raised bed.  I dug one up to see if had started to grow.  It had rotted.  I dug up the other three and the also had rotted.

Spraying Crickets

The crickets are still here.  After breakfast I got the backpack sprayer.  I made a mix of dawn soap, vinegar, and water.  I filled the sprayer half full of these mixtures.  I began spraying the crickets on the patio walls. I then sprayed the crickets east of the greenhouses.

This is the sprayer.  After it is filled, I put it on a bench and was then able to get it on my back.
The cupper roses are beautiful.
I cut weeds until the battery died.  I put the weeder on the charger.  After the charge I cut some more.  The channel five news did a special on the Mormon crickets in Holden and Fillmore on the six O'clock news.

Toilet is Fixed

This morning after breakfast Carol and I drove to Fillmore.  We drove directly to loves and filled the car with gas.  We then went to the Fillmore Market where we bought some groceries. We then went to the Dollar store.  I bought some white socks and some envelopes.  Yesterday I called Adam Remkes  and asked him if he could fix our toilet.  He said he would come.  For some reason he didn't come.  This afternoon I called again; He said that he would be here soon.

He brought his tools and some parts; I got this fuzzy picture of him at work. I had to go under the house to turn off the water and then again to turn the water back on.
I was out cutting the grass weeds when he called.  After he left, I cut more weeds.  The above photo shows the Mormon crickets in the grass.  There are still a lot of crickets in the yard.

More Crickets

When I got up this morning it looked like the crickets were gone, was I wrong!!!  I got out the weed eater and started cutting grass, I cut until the battery died.  An hour or so later after it was fully charged, I cut more grass.

I cut grass around the trailer.
There were some small logs the was covered with Mormon crickets.
The tractor wheel was also covered with the crickets.  I got the fly swatter and began to kill the crickets on the patio wall.  I am sure the I killed hundreds of them.  The tomato plants on the benches in greenhouse five were really wilted.  I watered them at two different times.  They are looking better.

Richard Back to Work

When I got Richard was gone.  I showered fed the cats.  It looked like the crickets were gone.  Then I remembered that I was to put the meat in the slow cooker.  I put the meat in and the meat broth and started it to go.  I made toast and cooked breakfast.  Richard came back and we fixed him breakfast.  Later, we went to church.  After church we came home to a good dinner of peas, mashed potatoes, and gravy.  Carol made chocolate pudding.  Richard left and he left his four-wheeler on the patio.  Early this evening I got two pictures of the Mormon crickets that are on the patio walls.

We also killed a lot of them with fly swatters and the vacuum.

Mormon Crickets

Richard left early this morning and didn't come back until this afternoon.  He went fishing.  Yesterday we saw Mormon crickets at the freeway exit. There were a lot mor this morning.  The photos are in a random order.

This a photo of the crickets on the wall of the house taken from the patio.
Another photo showing the door to the patio.
I didn't want the crickets going into greenhouse five. I shut the east door and blocked it from opening. put a little dirt at the bottom edge of the door to prevent the crickets from crawling under.
An early photo showing the back porch wall with only a few crickets.
Richard and Carol arranging some nicknacks in her bedroom.
Robert was collecting some plants out west of Meadow.  I took a picture of this flowering wildflower.  Robert took Richard and me to the hot springs.  There were a lot of people bathing there.  On the way home we stopped at Roper's for some things that we needed to water the plants in greenhouse two.
Here is a better photo.
Crickets in the grass.

We transplanted three rows of dahlia plants.  Robert is watering them.
This is the road in front of our house.  There are thousands of crickets there.
Robert is measuring the rows for the dahlia plants.
Crickets on the rhubarb leaves.
A post in the southwest corner of our yard covered with crickets.   I got out the lawnmower to catch the crickets, I went back and forth on the back lawn, the east lawn and the front lawn. I didn't get any in the grass catcher.  I did get a lot of crickets on the backwall of then house with the vacuum.
