Weed Eater Whip

We needed something for our Sunday dinner.  Right after breakfast I went to Fillmore for groceries.  I got a frozen dinner and a few other things and then went home.  I began cutting weeds.  I was cutting for less than a minute when the string was worn out.  I drove back to Fillmore.  I got the weed eater whip at Roper's.  They had several different sizes.  The one I got was .065 millimeters in thickness.   I came back home and tried to load it in the spool.  I couldn't figure it out.  So, I watch two YouTube videos and followed the directions.

I cut three different areas west of house five.  The above photo shows the center area.
This shows the right area.  I am missing the left area photo.  The battery went dead.  I took it to the garage and hooked it up to the charger.  That is the last of cutting weeds for today.
I cut more asparagus.  This was a good batch.  Carol cooked some for supper.
There is a lot of foxtail grass all over. West of the south end of house was more foxtail grass that I dug with a shovel.  There was a lot of tall fox tail grass on the berms north of house four.   There were two small barrel cacti hidden by the foxtail grass.   I started to dig the weeds and found the cactus on the left.
It took me quite a long time digging with the shovel.  I then got on my knees and began to pull the grass.  I was able to free the cactus from the grass.  this is the one on the right.
There are a couple of flowers on the cactus on the left.  The flowers were a faded yellow.
Another photo of the flowers.     Richard called and said that Carol's was in the St, Mark hospital with pneumonia and covid.

Pruned Tree

Breakfast went as usual.  I got the mail and then opened the east doors of house five.

This Big Leaf Linden tree had a lot of sucker branch growing from its base.  I got my handsaw to cut them off.  I cut one small branch and I could see that it would take way too long using the handsaw.  I got electric chain saw out and two long extension cords. I was able to cut off all of them.  I should have counted them, but I think that there was about twenty of them.  When I finished, I drug all of them out to the road.
I drug the branches and sticks to the road so they will be picked up at a later date.
I had my cordless weed whip on the charger all night.  This afternoon, I cut away all of the weeds directly west of house four.  Most of them were foxtail grass.  They were growing close together.   I moved the large pipe out of the way.
This is west of house five.  You can see some of the grass that I didn't cut in the upper left corner.  My battery went dead at this location.
There is a spruce growing west of house five.  I pruned off some of the lower branches and carried them out to the road.

Planted Easter Lily

Another warm day.  I picked up the mail and then went out to house five.  The tomato seedlings are slowly germinating.  The peppers are waiting.  It always takes pepper seeds longer to germinate than tomato seeds.

I put water on this spot north of the garage this morning, and this afternoon, I dug a hole and planted the Easter lily.  I planted one last year to the left which is hidden by the shovel.  I had some pretty blooms last year.
I found the hose that we use on the front lawn.  I hooked it up and put a water breaker on it and watered dahlias.  I watered them two times today.
This fern leaf peony has taken a beaten by snow and freezing weather.  This morning it is looking pretty healthy.   There is a lot of red buds on it.
This afternoon I called about my zebra printer.  There were so many menu items that I had a hard time getting to talk to a real live person.  The last message was: "someone will answer soon."   I got tired of waiting.   I hung up and called the number that was on top of the printer.  A woman answered immediately.  I told of my problem.  She gave me some instructions.  I followed them the best I could.  It didn't work.  The printer fed the labels but didn't print anything.  The instructions are a couple of photos below.
A close-up of the fern peony flower.   I dug a lot of weeds today and sprayed a tank of weed killer this morning.   I planted the Easter lily by the garage door.
These two spray tanks have been around for years.  They don't work.  I dumped them on the gravel driveway, and I will take them to the dump.
Here is a picture of printer switch.
Here are the directions that were given to me over the phone.  I tried to follow them one more time and still no printing.  I shut of the computer and the printer.     Open Office has not worked for a couple of days.  I went online and had Open Office updated.  It still didn't work.  I shut the computer off and turned it back on.  Now it works.

Weeds & Asparagus

I opened the east doors to house six.   I walked into house three looking for the wand that went with a sprayer.

I found one that was with a smaller spray tank.  I put it on the back of the larger sprayer that I hope to fix.
I took this tray and knife and picked the asparagus.  There was a nice harvest this morning.   I went again tonight just before dark and got about six stems.
I put it in a large mouth quart bottle of water and put it in the fridge.
I was going to spray weeds this afternoon, but when I walked out of house five, the wind was blowing.  I changed my mind several time and then decided to spray.  I sprayed the weeds north of then north garden.
I found a lot of Grape hyacinths and then found this cluster.  The grape hyacinths produce seeds that are someway scattered.  In some areas they are considered invasive.

Carrots are Planted

The water had run all night on the Green Arrow peas.  I shut the water off this morning.  I opened the east doors of house five.  There were a couple of letters at the post office.  I planted carrots this morning.  I raked the raised bed and then smooth it off.

I put the carrots in an old prescription bottle.  I drilled three small holes through the lid, which let the tiny seeds to pass through.   I put two pieces of half inch conduit across the bed and with the shaker I planted seeds between the conduits.   The I took the conduit on the right put it left the conduit that is on the left.  The seeds should be evenly distributed on the raised bed.  I did this until the whole bed was planted.
I covered morning glory starts with the aluminum cat food cans.  The square device in the above photo is smooth down the raised bed.
I covered the seeds with a double layer of burlap.  I then gave it a good watering.
After I watered, I put the conduit across the burlap to help hold it down.
I mowed the lawn and got mostly dry leaves.  I put the leaves on some compost piles.  The lawns have not been watered this year.
The tomato seeds I planted about two weeks ago are beginning to germinate. It was a little dark when I took this picture.
I have had this sprayer for a long time.  It's been in house three for years.  I got it from Clyde Heath.  I drove over TJ Bennett's house and asked him if he could fix it.  I was able to get it out of house three.  It was a struggle to do it alone.  It would been much easier if there was another person helping.  I left it one the lawn.

Stake Conference Sunday

After breakfast I made tapioca pudding.  I made some mistakes and it turned out to be more like tapioca soup than pudding.  We watched the Fillmore Stake Conference on ZOOM.  I tried several times to log in. I finally got it with about five minutes to spare.  The speakers were good, and Elder             spoke more on sharing the gospel and did a good job.  For dinner we baked potatoes. ham, and frozen peas from the garden.

The vine by the patio door is looking good.   I used the flash to get the above photo of one of the flowers.
After dinner I got the photo of some tulips growing under the little leaf Linden tree. The deer haven't found them yet.  I turned the water on.  It is running on the Green Arrow pea plants.

Geranium Buds

After breakfast, I watched three hours of wood working show.  When it was over, I took a package to the post office to be mailed to Ezra, Holden and Megan's son, and Roberts and Jeanne's grandson.  They are living in Orem with Robert and Jeanne.  After lunch I went out to house five.

There were several of the new geranium plants that were growing buds.   A bud is in the middle of the above photo.  Later I watered the geranium and the tomato plants, it took them a long time to germinate, but are now doing very well.

I need the address of Dale Robins, so I could pay for his irrigation water that I am going to use.  I went to the home of the irrigation company's secretary and got the address.

Steve's Tires

Went to Fillmore this morning to have the oil changed in our car.  The appointment was at nine and they were finished about one-half hour later.  I got a few groceries at the Fillmore Market and then filled the car with gas at Maverick.  I also filled two five-gallon tanks.  It rained some this afternoon.  I fertilized the plants that are growing in house five with Miricale Grow.   I set up a sprinkle for the raised beds in the north garden.  I grew carrots in one and sweet potatoes in the other two.  Even though it rained some, the rain soaked about one-half inch into the soil.   I turned on the water.  It was about a four when I turned it on and a little after nine when I turned it off.

Asparagus

I turned on the furnace to take off the chill.  It wasn't very cold last night.  After breakfast and some news, I opened the east doors of house five.  Later, I got the mail.  The car needs an oil change.  I called Steve's tires and made an appointment for nine in the morning.  The photos are not in order.

This is an afternoon picture.  I dug out all the weeds except for some on the right side.
While walking around the garden, I found the asparagus had grown some.  Just before dark, I cut the larger stems.  I put them in this tray where they can lay downl
I put them in wide mouth quart bottle filled with water.  Then they are in the fridge.  I expect to get more tomorrow.
I tried to start the lawn mower.  I cranked and cranked and choked it.  But it wouldn't start.  I found that there was not any gas in the tank.  I had a little bit in the garage.  I pored it in the tank.  I then started right up.  I drove it to the front of the garage and checked the oil.  The oil was okay.  I didn't have enough gas to mow the lawn.  I will get more gas in the morning.
There are a lot of weeds that have seeds like the dandy lion.  They blow in the wind.  The above photo shows what is above ground and what is underground.
Richard Darnel brought my pressure hose to me this morning.  I hooked to the compressor and turned on the power.  It started to build pressure and then it filled with air and shut off.

Proxy Sealings, Provo Temple

I was up at 5:15 and read a couple chapters from the Book of Mormon.  Carol was up at 6:15.    I fed the cats and had breakfast ready a short time after that.  I opened one east door in house five.   We put on our Sunday clothes and were on our way about 7:45.
We parked in a handicapped parking spot close the temple.  We ended up at the sealing office and after a short wait, we were invited to go into one of the sealing rooms.  Our time doing sealings.  We were acting as proxies for those who have died.   Couple were sealed together, and children were sealed to their parents.  When we were finished, we changed back into our Sunday best from our white temple clothes.  The above photo is of the Provo temple that I took as we were leaving the temple parking lot.  A lot of red tulips were planted in the temple grounds landscape.
We then drove to the Provo Home Depot.  I bought a compressor.  One person helped a little and then I found another person that helped me find what I wanted.  I used two, fifty-dollar gift cards.  I also had a gift card that about $21 left on it.  I used my credit card to pay the difference.  The clerk carried the compressor out to the car where Carol was waiting for me.  She was very helpful.  We got two small hamburgers, two orders of fries, and one diet coke.  We stopped at the Red Barn for ice cream cones, and then drove to Nephi on the frontage road.

I change into my overalls.  I opened the box and read the cautions and directions.  Most were warnings.  By the time I finished reading them, felt like it wasn't safe to have that compressor.  I watched a couple of You Tube videos about the compressor.  That seemed to help.  I put it on the patio and plugged in the extension cord.  It began to work.  I looked all over for the pressure cord and found it nowhere.  A couple of months ago, I asked a neighbor to fix my old compressor.  I think he took pressure cord with it.  I called him, but he was not home.
