To the Jordan River Temple, Almost.

We planned to be at the Jordan River Temple this evening, but yesterday  Carol was catching a cold.  We thought that we would go, but by afternoon, she wasn't feeling any better.  Briana, our granddaughter is receiving her endowment.  I text her telling her that we could not make it.
Yesterday, two kids in my neighborhood picked up the acorns.   They picked up the acorns plus a lot of dirt, sticks and leaves.
I used this tray as a strainer and strained out the dirt.  The sticks and leaves rose to the top as I shook it,  I then removed most of the sticks and leaves and then removed all the acorns.
The dirt and leaves ended up at this pile.
When finished I had this container of acorns.
The Peaches and Cream sweetcorn is ready to transplant.  I made two rows in the south bed.  There are eight in each row.  I then went to lunch.

After lunch I told Carol that I was going to cut down the peony plants.  She told me to cut down the elm trees in the west garden.  I removed the wire cages and cut them down.  There were weeds that I also cut.
I carried the stems and leaves with this pitchfork to the compost pile.  The handle kept coming off.  I cut a narrow strip of greenhouse poly.  I put the stem of the fork in the hole of the handle.   The poly held fork and the handle together.
There are two asparagus plants in the west garden on the east end.  I cut down both of them and took them to the compost pile.
The above photo shows a couple of small elm trees.
The same scene after I cut them down.

With a small paint brush I painted the stump with round-up. I cut down five or six small elm trees.
Round up is used on these stumps.
The chain saw quite before I finished.  I used the bow saw to cut the trees into smaller pieces to load them on the trailer.

Two More Buckets

We picked two more buckets of tomatoes for Karen Bennett.  I took them to her.  She was glad to get them.  They are pretty good tomatoes.
After I got back I picked tomatoes and cucumbers.  These area the post office.  Most were gone when I picked up the tote this evening.
These are spoiled tomatoes.  I took them to the chickens.
It is Halloween time.  I got out the pumpkin cutouts and put them on the front porch.  I had to put in new screws in the base because they were loose.
I have this Gambel Oak west of our driveway,  Most of the acorns have fallen to the ground.
I started to pick them up with the intention to sale them on eBay.  I can't get on my knees anymore. I hired one of the neighbor kids to pick them up and put them in a bucket.  The got a rake and raked dirt, rocks, leaves, sticks, and acorns into four piles. They were going put them in buckets and dump them on the other side of the road.  The buckets were full mostly of dirt and rocks.

I tried blowing everything but the acorns away.  First I used a window fan, that didn't work,  I then used a leaf blower, that didn't work. I used several different strainers.  That worked a little.  I washed the dirt away.  That worked a little.  I then put the material in a bucket of water.  The sticks floated to the top.  I removed the sticks and pored the water and acorns through a sieve.  The acorns were closer together.  I could sit and remove the acorns.
I got a group of twenty acorns and sale them for $10 plus shipping.  I will market them on Face Book.
This kitten's mother hasn't been around today and maybe yesterday too.

Beans and Buckets of Tomatoes

Morning chores and breakfast is over we begin picking.  We picked our pole beans and two buckets of tomatoes.
We dug all the onions except the copra onion.
I picked these cucumbers yesterday and gave them to the chickens.  With a shovel I sliced them sort of down the middle.
This is an orange cucumber that is growing in house six.  I didn't plant it and don't know where it came from.  This is the second different tomato plant that we have.
This tote is prepared for the post office.
Another bucket of cucumbers for the chickens.  I gave them half.  I then sliced them with a shovel.
There are a lot of tomatoes that are rotting or begging to rote on the vine.  I gathered some of them and gave them to the chickens.  The black hen facing to the right and cast a shadow.  She has her beak into the tomato.
I filled my back pack sprayer with weed killer and sprayed a bunch of weeds in the west side of our yard.
I collected some Bigtooth Maple seeds.  I should have done it two or three weeks ago.  Most of them have dried.
I planted the maple seeds in a 1020 tray.  Will be watered tomorrow.
This Jupiter Beard has been quite pretty this summer.  However, it is quite weedy.  I cut it down and put it on the compost pile.
Under the Jupiter Beard there is several saffron plants.  They will soon be blooming.
It was a surprise to see this eggplant in house six.  There are two of them ready to harvest.
 Here is the other one.
Another surprise.  We bought this Easter lily in April.  After it lost its blooms we planted in Kidney, glower garden. It began to grow and today it is blooming.

There are two other buds.

I Mowed the Lawn and the Mower didn't

This morning after breakfast we gathered up the onions.
The white bucket has the Copra onions.  They will keep into the summer.  There are a few more that are waiting to cure.  I will get those sometime next week.

The lawn is a big need of being mowed.   There are places where the grass is tall and other places where there are a lot of weeds.
I hooked up the battery charger as shown in the top left hand corner   I drained the oil pictured in the bottom right corner.  While the battery was charging I removed the hoses.  And in house for awhile I worked at the computer developing a paper explaining the CSA or community supported agriculture.  After lunch I added some oil to the lawnmower engine.  I couldn't find any motor oil.  I did find a gallon container which I thought had used oil, but it was gear oil of the weight of 80.  I put  1 1/2 quarts of oil in.  The mower started up and I mowed the whole lawn with ease.  The motor slowed down slightly but did not quite.  I dumped the catcher two times.
The burpless cucumber plants were badly infected with mites.  I cut them off at ground level and removed all the tomato clips.
The picture above shows the length of a cucumber vine.  It is nearly fourteen feet long.

Robert and Frank came this afternoon.  They were here for nearly three hours.  We discussed plans for next year.  Frank took tomatoes, beets, cucumbers, salad onions, and one geranium home with him.  He really liked the big burpless cucumbers.

I turned the water on the center sprinklers in the back yard at five and turned it off at nine and turned on the sprinklers on the south side.  It will run all night.

Las Vegas & Back in Two Days.

Wednesday

We drove straight to Las Vegas with one gas stop in St George and a couple of bathroom breaks.  When we got in Anne's neighborhood, we had a little trouble getting on the right street.  The above pictures shows three boxes of tomatoes and another box of cucumbers.
I walked around Anne's small backyard.  The pomegranate shrub has a lot of fruits on one branch.
A lot of fruit on the lemon tree.  It make take a couple more months before the are ripe.
Here is a close-up of the green lemons.
The girls discussing the merits of fresh fruit.  Left to right:  Nyleen, Anne, and Carol.
Soon we followed Anne and Fred to a Mexican restaurant where we had lunch.  Left to right around the tables.  Merrill, Anne, Fred, Miles, Nyleen, and Carol.  We had good food and a good visit.
I good picture of Fred and Anne Belhasen.  Fred is growing a beard.

Thursday

We drove to mesquite where we had reservations at the Virgin River hotel.  We had some difficulty finding our room.  At first we had a room that were going to share.  We walked down to the registration desk and straightened it out.  We had adjoining rooms on the top floor, which was the third floor.  We then went out to eat.  After looking around for a place to eat, we ended up at the drive up window of MacDonald's.  I got a chicken sandwich,  Carol got a extra large hamburger.  We drove back to our room and set around a table for supper.   We had a pretty go rest and were up at six Pacific time.
We had breakfast at the buffet.  There was a lot of good food.  We had all that we could eat.  The picture above:  Merrill, Carol, Nyleen and Miles.
In Cedar City we stopped for gas again.  There were now restrooms here.  We drove to Walmart where we took care of that conceren.
We Drove to Beaver, Utah for ice cream.  We always stop her when going home.
We ate our ice cream while sitting on some benches.  Miles and Nyleen are pictured above.
Merrill and Carol.  It looks like we have had a ragged day.  We really looked better than what this photo shows.
Several years ago I grew these black locust trees for Cove Fort.  There are three trees.

Here I am standing in front of one of the trees.
A beautiful flower bed at Cove Fort.
Back in Holden I made some braces to hold up the tomato plants.

This photo shows the length of one tomato branch.
One of the braces is placed under this horizontal branch to hold it up.
 One more picture
I picked tomatoes for miles and Nyleen,  There were a bunch of spoiled ones which I fed to the chickens.
I cut down one of the plant varieties called.  Coyote Cherry.   In the photo above are some empty spaces where the tomato plant was places.
I removed the tomato clips and piled the plants out side the door.
