Day of Transplanting

It was about ten this morning when we drove to Fillmore, we stopped at Fillmore feed.  I returned the overalls that I bought last week.  They didn't fit. Carol picked up a prescription at the drug store.  We then got a few groceries at the Fillmore Market.  There were only a few cars in the parking lot.  When we left, we had to wait for the five cars that entered the parking area before we could get back on the road.  We then drove home.

Last week, I used all of the potting soil that I bought from Roper's in Fillmore.  I started using soil that is in the root control bags.  There is a big problem with that.  The soil is so dry and is hard to get wet.  I transplanted some geraniums into the square pots.  When I quit transplanting and I put the pots in water to let them soak.  During the night an idea came to me.  I should put the soil into a wheelbarrow, and poor water into it.

This morning after breakfast I did it.  I put the dry potting soil and water in the wheelbarrow and mixed it up with a shovel.  I poured in more water and mixed again.   I let it set there until after lunch.

The soil was in the wheelbarrow for about three hours.  That allowed the water more evenly be distributed in the soil.   I filled quite a few pots.  The is a faster easier way to do this.
I built a wall on the back of the small potting bench and on each side.  That gave me more room for potting soil.  I walked back to the garage several times for boards, tools, and grabber screws.
I ended up transplanting 120 geraniums into the larger square pots and twelve in the smaller pots.  Above photo is the 120 geraniums.  I hope I can finish tomorrow.

Sacrament and Priesthood

We prepared most of the food before breakfast.

Carol took me to choir practice which was at nine.  She went home and came back for sacrament meeting.   The speakers at sacrament meeting did a good job.

The remote mike was fixed for priesthood meeting.  It hasn't worked for nearly a month.  The teacher, who was a trooper who worked for the state of Utah, did a good job,

We came home to a dinner of meat loaf, baked potatoes, snap beans from the garden were bottled last fall.  Carol also made Jello.

We watched TV at different times during the day and evening.

Two Saturday Shows

I transplanted twelve geraniums into the smaller pots.  I then transplanted fifteen geraniums into the larger pots.  They are shown in the above picture.  Three cells are empty.  Te

Cleaning and Organizing

It was nearly ten this morning when I went to the post office to get the mail.  There was only one piece of mail.  It was a card that was addressed to Carol or box holder.

There was ice on the chain-link fence north of the post office.  Snow on the top of the fence had melted some and the water ran down the links.

When I got home, I put these black trays in the trunk and took them to the dump and put them in the dumpster bins.  There are thirty cells in each tray.
Tiger, our cat, found an unusual place in the large garbage can.
After lunch I took the layering pots to the garage, put them in the car, and took them to the dump.

Here is a photo of the layering pots.
The southwest corner of house five were all of the tube trays and tubes organized in a more orderly way.
The northwest corner was cleaned up.  There were boxes there that I broke down where they would lay flat.

Two Inches of Powder

After showering and shaving, I turned on the TV to check out reception.  Reception was okay.  I then began to read the Book of Ether from the Book of Mormon.  We had our usual breakfast.

As soon as breakfast was over, I made a pathway through the snow to house five.   One of the orange cats is trying out the path.
Here is two inches of new snow.  I began to remove the snow from the driveway.
First, I made a path through the snow down the middle of the driveway.  I pushed some of the snow off to the west side.
Next, I made the path down the middle of the driveway wider by pushing some of the snow to the left side of the driveway and then the some to the right side of the driveway. Then I went back and pushed both sides to the edge of the pavement.  By afternoon, the driveway and road were dry.

Two inches of snow on the front sidewalk.    Last week Debora Shepard called about native plants.  I told her that I had retired, but we had tubes and trays.  If she wanted them, she could come and get some, but not one Wednesday.  She said that she would call.  She called, but my phone was off.  She knocked on our front door.  She and husband were here with a truck.
They got all off the tube trays that would fit in their truck.
They also four or five large boxes black seven cubic inch tubes.  The above photo shows where they were located.
The above photo is a poinsettia plant that I though had died.  He pointed out that there were new leaf buds.  It was pretty dry, so I put in a pan of water.
The pomegranate bush has a lot of stems with leaf buds.

More Snow

We had planned to go to the Payson Temple for the 2:30 session.  I cancelled it last night because of snow in the forecast.  This morning there was snow and several accidents on I-15.  As a result of the accidents traffic was backed up for miles.

This photo is taken some time this morning.  My back is to the large garage door, looking to the north.  Holden town snowplow has not been out yet.  I measured four inches of snow on the driveway.  There was eight inches of snow in Fillmore as reported in Face Book.
My hands are cold and shaky.  I had trouble get my phone to work.  I finally took this selfie and was able to get a few more photos.
This photo was taken a little after lunch.  The snowplow has been by.  I removed snow from the middle of the driveway until I got to the end.   I went through again and pushed the snow closer to the driveway edge on both sides.
The photo here shows the front sidewalk.  I didn't get a photo of the driveway.  I went to the post office and picked up the mail.  It was lightly snow most of the day and a few times of heavy snow.  This time of the year we are always happy to get snow.  The furnace in house five was on and off during most of the day.

Late the evening, the Russian President Putin announced that they have invaded Ukraine.  A line from the dedication of Kyie temple in Ukraine.  "Protect all from any devastating influence, destruction or defacement."

Little More Snow

More snow during the night and morning.

There was a little snow during the night.  I got the snow shovel and pushed most of it off.  Tere was a lot of ice that I couldn't get off.  I then did the front sidewalk and steps.  By the afternoon, the ice had melted.  I went to the post office for the mail.  I returned the books to Jac Stephenson and got a bunch of new books.  I had a nice visit with Jac.  I came home in time for the channel eleven movie, The Highway to Heaven.
I removed one of the Geraniums and found that it had a good root structure.  I put it in a three-and-a-half-inch pot.
Here is another photo.
Because of the snow that fell today and snow that is in the weather forecast tomorrow, we canceled our temple appointment for tomorrow because of the snow forecast. I made two new appointments in March.

Grow Lights Removed

I slept in some this morning, but still was to read a chapter from the Book of Mormon and posted it on Face Book.  It is the last day of the president weekend.  The post office and banks are closed.  We had the usual breakfast.  Later in the morning it began to snow.  At the end of the Walton show, the dish was covered with snow that prevented us from seeing the last couple of minutes.  I went out and cleaned off the snow.  I have a broom on a long stick that's out there all the time.  I was able to remove the snow.  By the time I got back into the house, the show was over.  We had lunch and then watched the noon news.

I shut off the grow lights last night.  The day length, I believe, is long enough for the plants.  I put them back in house three.
I removed the heating pads last week.  The geraniums don't seem to be doing well.  I hope this change will help them.  There are not any roots growing out the bottom of the six pack.
The Styrofoam tray is to dry.  I got a window screen and put over the top of it to prevent the soil and seeds from washing away.   It didn't work like I thought it would.  I removed the screen and some soil stuck to the screen.  I then put Styrofoam in a tray and filled the tray with water.  I checked back later and all of the cells were well soaked.  I turn on the heating pad.
We had about two inches of snow.  This is a view of the house and driveway after I removed the snow.  The driveway was only partially covered with snow.
Another view of the house and driveway.

Read another chapter from the Book of Mormon.  Had breakfast and then got some potatoes and one sweet potato ready for baking.  We watched a Tyler and Tayor video on a couple of chapters in the Book of Gensis.  We watched another Tyler and Taylor part way.  Then we got ready for church.  The sacrament and Sunday School were very good.  We set by our friends.  Coral asked me if I quit the choir.  They practice every Sunday morning at nine.

We came home for a good dinner.  I checked the plants in house five.  I unplugged the the lights over the geraniums.  A little more TV.  Ann Stephenson visited us for a short time.  It was getting dark.  I tuned on the fans in house five and then closed the doors for the night.  My supper consisted of sweet potato, salt, and butter.

House Five Weeds

Good breakfast of old fashion oats, fried egg on a piece of toast and juice.  I did some vacuuming in the family room.  I watched the three wood working shows.  Picked up the mail, but there was no mail this morning. I worked some in house five.

I put fertilizer in the watering can and watered the tomato plants, geraniums, and the new Styrofoam tray and the seeds.
I walked out to the shed and got the spray tank.  The spray hose was off, and the pump lever was stuck.  I decided not to do anything.   After lunch I changed my mind.  I got a can of WD-40 and sprayed all of the moving parts that were connected to the pump handle.  After a little pressure the stuck part broke loose.  I put water in the tank to test it before I put some weed killer in it.  I was able to spry with ease.  I filled the tank half full and put in a half pint of weed killer.
I loosened the clamp and attached the spryer hose.
I moved some of the plants that were in the northwest corner of house six and began to spry the weeds.
I sprayed the weeds on the south side of house five.  I refilled the sprayer tank and finished the weeds on the south side.  I then sprayed more weeds on the north side.  I then sprayed weeds on the east side of the path the went to house two.

A lady from Kaysville, Utah called wanting some native plants.  I told her that I had retired but asked her if she was interested in the trays and tubes that I have.  She was and will bring he truck and trailer next week.  She will call the day before she comes.  Carol and I went for a ride around town and west of town.

Fillmore This Morning

I was expecting Shane England this afternoon.  Carol wanted to go to Fillmore to get some cash at The State Bank of Southern Utah.  It was a little after ten when we left Holden.  We came back home as soon as we left the bank.  One of the ladies at the told us of her son, his wife, and grandchild lived in Holden.  She described their home.  We drove to the location she described.

We watched some TV after lunch.  I stayed close to my phone in case Shane called.  It is nine pm and I haven't been called.

Dentist Visited

It was a pretty boring day.  Nothing unusual.  Mainly watched TV.  The news and the Waltons.  This afternoon I watched, "Where is Heaven."   At three, I took Carol over to Karen Bennett's for a perm.  I then went to the dentist office to have my teeth fixed.  He did some cleaning and recommended that he pulls my teeth and makes a set of bottom dentures.  I am not going to do that.

This my view from the dental chair.
My short overalls.  I went to Karen Bennett's beauty shop.  Carol was not finished.  I went back home and after a while Carol called.  She was finished.  I brought he back home.  Karen did a beautiful job.  I would like to get her picture, but she doesn't like that.

This tray of seeds got pretty hot.  I removed the cookie sheet that was on top of it.

Seeds Planted, Covered, Watered

After our usual morning activities, I went to the post office and got the mail.  When I got back from the post office.  I went out to house five and did some more planting.  I had three more rows to plant.

There are ten seeds in each pack.  There are eleven cells in each row.   I planted the seeds and left the last cell empty.
This is the sieve I used to remove the sticks and some small rocks from the potting soil.
I planted the seeds and covered them with the strained potting soil.  I pressed the soil tightly around the seeds.  I lightly watered them with a spray bottle.
Good news greenhouse five.  Carol's pomegranate is growing leaves.   The tips of many of the pomegranate branches have leaf buds.
Another letter addressed to Shane England from the IRS was in our mailbox this morning.  I tried to send this image too Shane.  I couldn't find and email address for him and of couldn't find him on Face Book.   This evening there is a light dusting of snow on the back lawn.

Quick Trip to Fillmore

I wrote a check and put it in an envelope with the coupon to pay the federal income tax. After chores and breakfast, we drove to Fillmore.  We wanted to get some distilled water at the Fillmore Market.  Carol started shopping, and I went straight to the isle where the distilled water would be.  The was a sign said, "two gallons per customer" but there was no water.  Strange, I thought.  I went straight to the front of the store and asked about the water.  I followed her too the back of the store and waited.

In a few minutes she was back with two gallons of the water.  We checked out and drove to the Love gas station.  I got out of the car and filled up with premium gasoline.  We asked our daughter Lisa to get distilled water somewhere in Layton.  We also asked Nyleen, Carol's sister, to get some in Linden.  After we got home, Carol called both of them telling them that we already got the water.  I put hen scratch in the bird feeder.

CR Charlesworth brought oranges and nuts.  He has been coming every other Tuesday.  It happens to be the same day that that Ron, the Swanie man comes, but only a couple of hours earlier.

This afternoon I planted a lot of seeds in the Styrofoam trays.  Some are onions, leeks, celerity tomatoes, delicious tomatoes, hot peppers, bell peppers.

Quick Trip up North

A lot of washing this morning.  We don't wash clothes on Sunday, so we did the Sunday and the Monday clothes this morning.  I put on my, go up north clothes.  As soon as Carol put my overalls in the dryer, we left Holden.  It was a little after 9:30.   Our first stop was at the Payson Walmart.  Our next stop was at Sam's Club.  We bought eggs, cheese, dry cat food, and a few other things.  We then went to Linden, where Carol's sister lives.  Miles cut my hair.  We had a nice visit.  On the way home we stopped at Costco's for gas.  For some reason we couldn't fill the tank.  I went into Macys for some distilled water.  They didn't have any.  We stopped at Wendys for hamburgers and fries.  We ate them on the way home.

The Sabath

I made old fashion oatmeal mush this morning.  Carol fried the eggs.  She cooked ten the same way as I do it.  She even put catchup on my toast.  I watched the video and read the lesson at the same time.  I had a choir practice nine, I thought.  It was 9:15 when I realized that I was late.  I put on my Sunday clothes as fast as I could.  When I got there, there was no practice.  The practice was later and in the relief society room.  We practice a song that we would sing in sacrament meeting.  The song went well as well as the speakers.

After priesthood meeting, we came home.  We had dinner and rested some after.  I opened the door of house five.  The tomato plants looked sick.  I soon figured out the problem.  I kept them watered every day. The water contained fertilizer.  It would have been better to fertilize them once a week.   I called Kathy Farmer to tell her that we wanted to see her.  She suggested that we shouldn't come because she had the flu.  I picked up my partner and visited with Jac Stephenson.

The rest of the evening was at home watching our TV shows.

Ministering

Had a late start this morning.  Breakfast about a half hour later than usual.  I turned on my woodworking shows, but I wasn't able to give it my full attention.  I picked up the mail and then watched other PBS, channel seven shows.

I have a new furnace filter in the garage.  I got my flashlight, and the filter then went under the house to the furnace.  There is a lamp there which I turned on.  I pulled off a piece of duct tape and removed the dirty filter.  I put in the new one and securely taped it to the furnace.
This photo shows the size.  The next time we go to Fillmore I will buy a new filter.  I went over to Dave Woods' home.  He did my taxes for me.  He did a good job.  His fee was $75.00   We had to pay federal taxes, but we get a little over a thousand dollars from the state.
This evening, I range Carl Remkes' doorbell.  He invited me in and we had a pleasant conversation.  He is doing a lot of carving on the face of many different boards.  The photo above shows some of them.  He also showed me a lot of marbles.  Some as large as a lemon.   I then went over to the home of Jac Stephenson.  Carl and I are his ministers.
