Nut Crackers Put Away

As soon as breakfast was over, I took out all of the boxes that were in the bathroom closet.  Some of the boxes were for the nut crackers.  Other boxes were for the snowy round ball items.  Most of the nut crackers were in the big tote.  The rest of the nut crackers were put in and apple box.

The top of the TV cabinet and the milk safe were covered with photos of our family members.  Yesterday, I glued the leg parts together for a three-foot stool.  This afternoon I glued two leg pairs together.  I have been pretty busy most of the day.  All of the indoor Christmas things are put away until November 2022.

New snow this morning.  It was about four inches deep on the driveway.  I pushed some of it off this morning and the rest of it off this afternoon.

Tonight, is New Year's Eve.  I will write the activities of this evening tomorrow morning.

Missed a Couple of Days

I was watching late evening TV shows that I didn't write anything.  I got a few pictures.

I cleaned a path from our back porch to the front of house five.  The photo is in front of house three.
Our driveway after a good neighbor pushed off all of the snow.
This pathway through the snow is south of our patio;
The temperature in house five.  It didn't get very warm all day long.
I worked all afternoon putting this light fixture together.  When I finished, it didn't work.  There was a little light on the left end.  The tube must be too old.

We worked all morning.  We removed all of the ornaments that were hanging on the Christmas tree.  Two different sizes of balls, angels, snowflakes, crystal, etc.
The above photo is the box which contains the tree.  It was hard to close the box after I got the tree inside the box.  I took the tree out.  the tree is in four sections.  I wrapped the three large sections with some twine and chinch it tight.  I then tape the box shut.  I carried the heavy box into the kitchen.  I then drug it out the door into the garage.  I put in place until next year.  I couldn't get the tree stand in the box, so I put it on top of the box.

After finishing we drove to Fillmore.  We stopped at Service Drug where Carol refilled her prescription and bought some birthday cards.  We then stopped at the Fillmore Market for a few groceries.  Then it was home for lunch.
Again, the geraniums are doing well.  There three or four six packs that have geranium seedling in each cell.
I broke my shoehorn a couple of days ago.  I made a new one which is hanging by the light switch by the garage door.

Snow This Morning

I got pretty cold last night.  The furnace was running when I got up.  I showered, shaved, and read the last chapter in the book of Alma.  The book of Helaman in the morning.  After breakfast I shoveled the snow off the driveway.

I had my back against the garage door when I took this picture.  There was about 1.5 inches of powdery snow.  I soon finished and then did the front walk and steps.
This is how it looked after I finished.

Lisa left little Max's toy at our house yesterday.  I made a label.  Carol and I took it to the post office.  It cost a little over $10.00 to ship it.  A little later we drove to Fillmore.  We bought gas at The Maverick station and then bought groceries at the Fillmore Market.  It was snowing and snowed all the way home.  For lunch we had leftovers from yesterday.  We put away the Nativity set.  It took us rest of the afternoon.
The above photo shows how the pieces were put in the Styrofoam tray,   I couldn't get all of the pieces to fit.  Carol and I tried many times.  We moved the pieces to different spots.  When I finished, I had one of the large wise men left over.
I took the photo with the wise standing on top of the box.
This photo shows the wise man standing one the card table in front of its box.
The geraniums are doing very well.  all of the cells in several six packs have completely germinated.  I think that there is a seventy percent germination at this point.  It is starting to get dark.   I put the plants in house five to bed by turning on the fan and blocking the east door shut.

Choir Performance

We had breakfast of eggs, toast, and old fashion oatmeal mush.  Carol had a hardboiled egg.  It was soon time to go to church for the last choir practice.

I had Richard take me in his truck to choir practice this morning.  It rained and snowed some during the night and morning.  The roads and sidewalks were icy and slippery.  Choir practice went well.  After the sacrament was passed and received the choir did the Christmas program.  There were a lot of compliments by people in the congregation.

We went home and had a good dinner of fried chicken and rice.  After dinner, Richard left to spend some time with his daughter and grandkids.

Later this afternoon, Robert called.  He said that he and Jeanne were coming to visit us.  They had some presents for us.  They were late getting here because of a road accident north of Scipio.    We had a good visit with them.  I didn't get any pictures of Richard, Robert and Jeanne.

The photo above is of black walnut.  Eric and Lisa gave this to me to carve.
I got a couple of dress shirts for Christmas.

Christmas

Richard drove to Fillmore early this morning to fill his truck with gas.  This morning after we were all up, we went into the front room and began to open the presents.  There were quite a few of them.

Carol is unwrapping some of the presents. We filled a large garbage bag with all the wrapping paper and tissue paper.  We then had breakfast.
Melissa was the first to call.  April Johnson called.  Lisa Gray called and we talked to her and Eric and some of her children.

We had a late dinner.

Richard is staying over tonight and will be attending church with us tomorrow.

Visit from Richard

After breakfast and our usual morning activities we watched the morning news.

Ann Stephenson brought back our cat that she took to a Richfield veterinarian to be fixed.  We put the cage in the garage and let the cat out.  It went to different spots near the north-east corner of the garage.

When Carol saw him, she quickly identified him as to be our cat, Dusty.  I gave it some soft cat food and it began to eat.  When I opened the door, he went up the back porch steps.  Carol quickly identified him as being Dusty.  We had him fixed several years ago.

Richard came home early this afternoon, but we were expecting him later in the evening.  It was good to see him again.  He brought some Christmas gifts with him and put them under the tree.

Later Carol fixed a meal of hamburger patties, backed potatoes and frozen peas from our garden.  We watched several videos before we went to bed.

It rained and snowed some most of the night.  By this afternoon most of the snow had melted and the driveway was dry.

Moving Potting Soil

I got the address for Jessica Holloway this morning.  We went to the post office and mailed her Christmas card.  Carol has a gift for Ann Stephenson.  I took it over to her this morning.  I asked her about the cat that she took to Richfield to get fixed.  She still has it and will bring it to us in the morning.

I worked the biggest part of the day moving potting soil to the pile south of house six.  The photo above shows how many root control bags were moved.  When I first started last week, there were bags on the front.  Now the bags are gone.  The white in the back of the photo looks like snow, but it is white plastic.
The above photo shows how large the pile of potting soil is getting.  For the most part, I brought the soil two buckets at a time.
There are more geraniums germinating.  There is probably over one hundred seedlings now.

This evening we drove to Fillmore to get some dry cat food and lemon Marange pie.

Candy Corn Pops

This morning soon after breakfast morning, we started to make the Candy Corn Puffs.  I picked up the mail at the post office.  We had some mail.

A couple of days ago we bought three bags of corn pops.  It takes one bag to fill the green bowl.   The green bowl is full of corn pops which makes one batch.
Carol made a syrup with brown sugar, corn syrup and a little baking soda.  She cooked to a hard boil.  She poured in the bowl and mixed all together by stirring it with a large spoon.
The last step in making Carmel corn pops is baking it at 220 degrees for forty minutes.  She stirred it frequently.
It is put on wax paper to keep it from sticking to the table.
Each batch filled three zip lock bags.  When we finished, we ended up with nine full bags,
We can't have Christmas presents with out bows.
I counted 71 germinating geraniums.  there is a fe

Caught the Cat

This morning, Ann Stephenson, our neighbor brought over two cat traps.  She wanted me to set them.  I put them on the bench next to the table.  I couldn't remember, but after messing with it for a little bit, I was able to set it.  I had to cut a little red wire to get the other trap set.  She took them home in the back of her car.  She called and said that she caught one of our cats.  She wasn't able to catch cat in the other trap.

I worked in house five part of the morning.  I filled two, five-gallon buckets with the soil from the grow bags.   I carried them out to the south-pile and dumped them.  That worked pretty well.  I could do it quite fast.

Carol took a friend to the hospital for some test.  While she was gone, I wrapped her presents and put them under the Christmas tree.  She parked the car north of the garage door.  Just then, Ann Stephenson, pulled up behind our car.  Our cat that she caught earlier had got out of the trap and was hiding under the driver's seat.  I should mention that she is taking it to Richfield to be fixed.  I couldn't get the cat out.  I tried for quite a while.  There was a wire in the way.  I moved the wire and was able to get the cat out.  We put him back in the cage and locked the cage so it couldn't get out.

The Swan driver brought our food order.

Carol and I went to the Fillmore Market and bought some groceries.  We then went to Roper's where I paid for six furring strips.  We picked them up at the Lumber yard.  We then came home.

Geranium Seedlings

After breakfast Carol wraps up two more presents.  I went to the post office and got a box and a plastic bag.  We put one present in the box and the other present in the bag and tape them closed.  I printed the addresses with the computer.  We then went to the post office and got them mailed.

I worked in greenhouse five.  I made a path through the snow and was able to take several loads to the south potting soil pile.
I took one load in the wheelbarrow.
The geraniums are germinating.  There are several seedlings in the above photo.
I found a florescent light fixture in the garage.  There are dictions on the box on how to put it together.  A job for tomorrow.
Our cat Tiger, sitting in the sun on these boxes where it is warm.
This photo was taken in the afternoon of more germinating geraniums.  They are hard to see.  I watered them again.  I put another sweet potato in a wide mouth quart bottle and put it in the kitchen window.  A neighbor brought over a fresh loaf of homemade bread.  I put butter and jam on mine.  It was very good.

Sunday Services

After breakfast I was getting ready for church.  Carol answered the phone. It was Ann next door.  The water pipes on the north side of the house froze.  They needed some water to flush their toilet, I put my overalls back on and filled two buckets half full of water.  I put them in the trunk and carefully drove over to her house. I put the buckets on her front porch and knocked on the door, l hurried back to the house and got dressed for church.  Carol took me to church, and I was a little late for choir practice.  Sacrament meeting was good.  I got the microphones ready for Sunday School.  The Sunday school lessons went very well.

I was over an hour late getting the pork roast in the slow cooker.  I called Anne about her frozen water pipes.  She called someone who thawed out the pipes.  She was instructed to let the water run a little to keep the pipes from freezing tonight.

We were watching the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, when Carol reminded me that I was to have a ministering appointment with Kathy Farmer.  I forgot all about it.  I called her.  I could be there in about fifteen minutes.  I called Carl Remkes my ministering partner.  He wasn't able to go.  Carol went with me.  We had a nice visit which lasted about a half hour.  We came home and a small lunch.  Later this evening, the doorbell rang.  A neighbor brought four cupcakes.  We finished the evening by watching the Sound of Music.

Delivering Presents

Showered, shaved and put on my nice clothes and then read from The Book of Mormon.   Last night we had omelets for supper.  The was enough onions, cheese, and peppers left over for an omelet for breakfast.  I was going to cut it in half, but Carol didn't want any.  She had cereal and I had the omelet.

We loaded all of the Christmas presents in the car and then drove to Robert and Jeanne's place.

The weather forecast was for fog.  We found it, but it was not very thick and did not slow us down any.  The above photo taken through the wind shield shows the fog.  You can see the car in front of us.
As we got closer to Nephi, we could see a blanket of fog through the side window down in the valley.
Driving into Nephi, we see mount Nebo.  We drove to Robert's house.  I wanted to get a family picture, but we got involved with a rock the Robert had.  He then showed us the stones that he polished; he does a good job.  We went to the Deseret Book store.  I bought me a garment bottoms, and ceremonial robe for the temple.  There were hundreds of people.  It was a long weight for a clerk to give us some help and then another long wait to pay for it.  We went to the Seagull Book store looking for a some more gifts.  We bought a small flashlight.
We bought some dish towels Bath and Beyond.  We stopped at Costco to get gas.  The lines were really long.
I got a picture of Carol waiting to pay for the items we got there.  We then went to the Payson Wal-Mart.  Carol bought a few things and I bought Carol several Christmas gifts.  We got a small hamburger and fries at Wendy's and then came home.  It was four when we got home.  Lisa and Eric had a lot of gifts for us that I brought into the house.

Three Foot Table

Carol was having a problem with her right leg.  I was extremely painful, and she had not strength.  She got out of bed and had difficulty walking.  She had to hang on to the bed, the wall, made it into the bathroom.  I asked her, if she wanted the walker.  Maybe she replied.  Went to get it out of the closet.  It was behind her clothes, and I couldn't get it out.  Her cane was there.  She was in the bathroom, so I leaned it in the little hall corner.   It helped keep her balance.  She used the cane all day.  By the end of the day, she was getting around much easier.  She still needed to use it.

There was a lot of snow yesterday morning.  I shoveled a path out to house five, so I could walk out there without the need of putting on my boots.
I worked on my stool that was three feet tall.  I made the legs yesterday.  I made the skirt this afternoon.  I glue the three parts together.  I made the stop block in my miter saw so all parts would be the same length.  The above photo shows how this was done.  I glued each set of three together.  When I got all the parts laid out, those made of recycled wood did not fit the parts made out of new wood.  I quit.  I will start again when I get some new furring wood.

It looks like some of the beets in house five are coming up.

Sweet Potato

I read Alma 51 from the Book of Mormon this morning and posted some comments and a link to chapter 15.   After the news and breakfast, we drove to Fillmore and bought some groceries at the Fillmore Market.

I bought two sweet potatoes.  I put one in this wide mouth quart bottle.  I used three sharp nails to hold the top above water.  The other potato was too large and would not fit in the bottle.  It will be roasted for dinner Sunday Morning.  I spent some time in house five.  I watered the geranium seeds and some of the other plants.
This afternoon, I started again to work on the tall stool.  The legs are built out of two furring that are three feet long.   One part of the leg is in the vice, and the other piece is glued on top of it.  I put glue on the edge and used a wood clamp to hold them together.  Then I drove in small brads along each edge to hold them after the clamp it taken off.  Later I applied glue and held it in place while I drove in the brads.  The above photo shows a mock-up of the location and direction of the legs.

Snow on Top of Rain

We woke up to a lot of snow.  I fed the cats and then put on my boots and walked through the snow to clean the snow off the dish.  We were then able to watch the TV news. After breakfast I began to clean the snow off the driveway.  Earlier I could hear the snowplows going up and down the streets.  There was nearly five inches of heavy wet snow.

This is how the front sidewalk looked this morning.
This is after I cleared the driveway.  This is looking south towards the garage.  I got the mail.  This afternoon I made a path through seven inches of snow from the back porch to house five.  I was then able to walk to house five with my shoes instead of putting on my boots.  One of our neighbors cleaned the snow off the front sidewalk.

Food Storage

The first thing after breakfast was to take the garbage to the dump.

The above photo shows what was in the trunk.  There were a few other things in the back of the car.    We took some large containers of nuts and chocolate nuts to three of Carol's friends.  None of them were home.  She left them at their door.  We then drove to Fillmore. We took some used ink cartridges to Dan at Stewart Electric, and we bought a coloring book at the Dollar Store.

The above photo shows some of the gifts that we wrapped yesterday.  I got some boxes and containers at the post office.  We put the other gifts in the containers.  Some went to Holden who lives in California, some went to Emily's home in Orem.  One went to Linda, Carol's friend in American Fork.  We took them to the post office.  Two boxes were to cost $20.00 each.  That was about the same as it cost to buy them.  The worker there was able to find two other boxes that cut the costs in half.  We took them home and put the presents in those boxes,   We are grateful for that help.  I worked some in house five.  I hauled more root control bags south of house six.

We went to the food storage building to the number 10 cans of food storage items.  We got beans, dried apples, rice, wheat, and few other things.  This is what Lisa and Eric wanted for Christmas.  There are two boxes.  I got a bag of potting soil.
I turned on the heating pads and finished the planting.  there are four trays and three six packs.  I tried to water them with hose and wand.  I stopped because it looked like I might wash out the seeds.  I then used a watering can.  Carol fixed a good dinner.  Later, there was impacted food between two of my lower front teeth.  I unfolded a paper clip and used it as a tooth pick.  My gums started bleed.  I used some floss and that pulled a temporary tooth.  A trip to the dentist.

When we got home, I planted more geranium seeds.
