Halloween

I was up in time to read from the Book of Mormon.  I got started but wasn't able finish the next chapter, but I did finish a little later in the morning.  I fed the cats and later gathered three eggs. I fixed breakfast which consisted of toast, eggs, and mush.   I watched three morning TV shows.  I should say I watched part of them. I fell to sleep on part of it.  I also went out to greenhouse five to see if the furnace was on during the night.  It was.  Warmups for lunch.  More warmups for supper.   I took two pictures.  I wanted to post them in this blog.  For some reason I was able to crop them and give them a new title and post them here.

I had a little time before the news.  I went out to the garden and decided to start pulling the up the frozen tomato plants, The above photo shows the dead tomato plants that I pulled, It nearly half of this group.

I prepared these pumpkins yesterday.  I cut a big candle in half.  I put them in the jack-o-lantern and put a match to it.  It is a little after 5:30 and the kids are coming with their bags and trick or treating. I fed the chickens a topaz melon cut in half.  We had a total ten kids that stopped at our house.  We have plenty of candy left over.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Furnace Started

I was up in time to start reading from the Book of Mormon, but I didn't finish the chapter until later in the day. I watched my morning TV shows.  Carol picked up the mail. I checked greenhouse five and the furnace run during the night.

There were some dahlias on the front porch. I unloaded the cart by house three and then I got the dahlias and put them in the back end of greenhouse five,
There is a pipe in house two that partly buried.  I found a large nursery pot.  With my electric jig saw I cut a large round hole in the bottom of it.
I put over the pipe and filled the pot with old potting soil that was on the wheel barrower.  That should keep the pipe from freezing.
I laid down the large pomegranate shrub on the ground that is in house five on the ground.  I then covered them with two blankets.  Carol washed them.
I was expecting Andrew Brown to fix the furnace in greenhouse five.  While I was waiting, I carved the two pumpkins.   The first one is in the photo above.  He and his help came of and fixed it. They worked on it for nearly an hour.  It cost me sixty dollars.
This the second one.  I not too excited about carving the pumpkins.  I used my cordless drill and a few other tools that made the carving job easier.  After supper we watched TV until we went to bed.

Good Neighbor

Sunday was asleep in morning.  I got up several times during the night.  The next thing I knew the lights were on in the family room.  Carol was up. I got up and weighed myself, and then showered and dressed.  I started making the old fashion oatmeal mush and then fed the cats.  I made tapioca pudding.  I Carol took me to choir practice.  There were three alto singers. three sopranos and three bass singers.  I was bass.  The sacrament speakers did a good job.  The fifth Sunday teachers were excellent.  After dinner I checked on things at the nursery.

The light meter a couple of days ago was 51400.  51401 was the reading today.

I got seven eggs late this morning from five hens.
When I went outside this afternoon, I saw Holden Hoit who is an electrician, in his front yard.  I walked of and asked him if he could help me with and electrical problem in greenhouse five, the fig plants had been touched by the frost.  There were four fans that circulated the air around the greenhouse.  The middle switch on the left side of the switch box controlled the fans.
The above photo shows the fros   I turned up the furnace switch, the fans turned on, but there t damage.  It was quite cold in house five.  Carol and I went to tithing settlement this evening.  When we got back, I called Andrew Brown because there was no heat. It was blowing cold air.    I told him the problem.  He said that he would come over.  It was a little later when he came.  He got the furnace working.  He needs to get a part in order to fix the furnace. I may have to drive to Richfield in the morning to get the part.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Furnace Fixed

This has been a busy morning.  After breakfast we went to work making another batch of Carol's V-8 juice.  She cleaned all of the tomatoes, cut off the bad parts of the tomato, cut the tomato in pieces, and put them in a large kettle.   She did that until all of the tomatoes, were in the kettle.  I mashed them so that there was a lot of juice.  She put it on the stove and boiled them until they were good and soft.  We put them into a juicer. I worked the juice until we got all of the juice.

Carol but the juice into quart jars.  We ended up with twelve bottles V-8 juice.  I called Andrew Brown several times.  He and a helper came this afternoon.
They tested the furnace and the switch.  He and his helper were here for about an hour.  They got it working.
I asked him to look at the furnace in house five.  I had a lot of problems.  The leaves of the fig shrubs were frozen.  I picked two bunches of grapes.  There are a lot of grapes.  I will give them away to anyone who wants them.
I have wondered about the electricity going to the greenhouse.  I took a picture of the electric meter.  I will check it in a couple of days to see how much electricity has been used.  This evening I went back to greenhouse five to see if the furnace would turn on.  I turned up the thermostat, and the furnace came on.
The tomato plants are frozen.  I picked a few tomatoes that look like they will ripen.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Harvest Veggies

I was up a little over six this morning.  I showered, dressed, prayers, and shaved.  That gave me time to read the next chapter in the Book of Mormon.  Carol got up a little later. She started the wash and then showered and done her hair.  I watched three of my morning TV shows.  I then went to the post office and got the mail.  After I got home, I picked all of the ripe fruit.  Most were tomatoes, but there were a few cucumbers, crookneck squash and zucchini squash.

I put it all in three Sam Club buckets.  Some tomatoes are completely ripe and a few are partially ripe.

Carol washed them.  Those in the above photo are partially ripe.  In a couple of days, they will turn red.
The photo above shows the tomatoes that have the color red.
Carol is going to make veggie juice which requires parsley. There was some growing north of the front room. I picked all of it.  It took me quite a while to remove the grass and leaves.  Carol put it in a grocery bag and then put it in the fridge.
There was a watermelon in the south garden.  A deer had eaten part of it,  I took it into the house to give it to the chicken.  I cut it in half and ate some of it.  The heart of the melon was really sweet.  I fed the rest of it two chickens.  They really like watermelon.

I shut the doors to greenhouse six while it is still light.  The low temperature expected 24 degrees. We had warm-ups for supper.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Busy Day

I was up quite a few times during the night for a bathroom break.  I then got up at six.  I showered, shaved, and read the nest chapter in the Book of Mormon,

Last night it was dark when I shut the doors to greenhouse five.  Tonight, I went out while it was still light.  I shut the doors as a safety from freezing temperatures.
Carol made a lot of spaghetti a couple of days ago.  There was a lot left over.  I had some tonight for supper.
There was a lot of leaves on the east lawn.  I thought that I would rake up the leaves.  Carol suggested that I get the lawnmower out and mow them up.  Started to mow the leaves on the east lawn. It soon filled the grass catcher up.  I made many trips to the garden where I dumped the leaves on the garden.
The above photo shows how full the bags are.  I emptied the one on the right before I took the picture.
The air in the front tires leaks a little.  I filled them with the compresser.
The chickens in house six were out of lay pellets.  Two of the rooster are really collercful.
Two of the lights on the ceiling fan were burned out.  It was easy to replace the with this short stepladder.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Fillmore Market

I was up at six and was able to read the next chapter in the Book of Mormon.  Carol was up and started the washing.  She washed our underwear, and the sheets.  There is a cat house on the back porch next to the garage.  There is three levels.  There are old towels in it so the cats can sleep in it with a little comfort. Carol washed and dried them I put them the cat house.

The above picture is of our kitten, Scamp, trying it out.  She was in there for over an hour.
Yesterday, Richard and I fixed the water pipe.  I hooked the hose to it and was able to water the pomegranate shrub with the hose.
Richard put this hanging basket on the floor of the front porch. tried to hang up this basket.  I got my large step ladder and when I lifted it by the hangers, one of the hangers broke off.
That made it much easier to water while on the step. I was trying to hang it back up and broke off the hanger.  I put a new hanger on it, but it would not stay attached to the basket.
We took a lot of garbage to then dump before we drove to Fillmore.  We got some gas at Love's and then some groceries at the Fillmore Market,  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Robert, Jeanne, & Richard

It was a little after six when I got up.  I showered, said my prayers and shaved and still had time to read then next chapter in the Book of Mormon.   After breakfast I turned of the water that had been running all night.  I watched my morning TV shows.  Carol wanted me to blow the leaves of the front porch and the patio. Rober and Jeanne came while I was blowing the leaves of the patio.  I didn't see them at first.  He brought some trees that he planted south of house six.  The main project that I wanted to do was to turn off the well and still have water running to the chickens, the chickens in house six, and the plants in house five.

We removed the hose that brought the water to greenhouse five.  In its place we hooked up a hose to the bottom of the pipe in house five.  I could use to water some of the plants in house five.
The water pipe in house five came off.  We then had to drive to Roper's to get some pipe cement.  After that we got some food for lunch at Costa Vita and Burger King.   We came home and had our lunch.  After lunch, Robert fixed the pipe that came off in house five.  I got and old frying pan and put it on the north side of house five.  We then put the hose there and run water in the frying pan.
I unscrewed the plug in the pipe in house three.  Water came running out of that pipe in full speed.  I was able shut that off that water in house two.  We spent most of the afternoon opening all the taps and faucets all that were all over the yard.  Robert and Jeanne went home.   Carol and watched some TV shows.  Richard called and said that he would be visiting us for a couple of days.   It was good to see him again.  We then watched TV until we went to bed.

Timpanogos

What a day.  It started out really well.  I was up fairly early.  It was the regular routine except that I put on my suit.  We were going to the Timpanogos temple. Miles and Nyleen were not going so we didn't need to stop and pick them up.   When we got to the temple Carol got out and I found a parking space that was quite aways away.  We then went and put on our white clothes and had a good session.  It seemed different because I didn't have to help Miles.  After the session we headed for home.  This was where the problems began.  There was a sign saying, "expect an hour delay driving." to Nephi.  We got off the

Wednesday

I got up this morning at six, turned on the furnace, showered, dressed, shaved and said my prayers.  I had time before the news to read another chapter in the Book of Mormon.  I turned on the news and fed the cats.  Carol was up a little later.  Carol did her hair while I prepared breakfast.  After breakfast I turned off the water which had been running all night.  Later we drove to Fillmore.  We stopped at the health Center where we go the covid shot.  We stopped at the driver's license center so I could get me a new license.  We back tracked to the Fillmore Feed center where I got some lay pellets for the chickens.  We bought some groceries at the Fillmore Market.  We spent nearly $100.  We bought gas at the Love gas station.  We then drove home.  Our lawyer came by were we finalize our last will and testament. We had bacon and tomato sandwich for lunch.  I worked about and hour on my laptop computer and finally got a new driver's license.  It took me over and hour to transfer the picture to my laptop from my phone.

The chickens in house six were out of lay pellets.  I gave them pellets and filled up their water container.
Later this afternoon I got my weed eater out to cut down the peonies.  I was out of string.  I took me about a half hour to put in the new string.  Normally I could put it in, in ten minutes.
The trees on the east lawn are falling.  I took this picture.
I started this maple tree from a seed that I collected in the mountains.  It is really pretty.
The air conditioner was covered with leaves.  I brushed them off and put a piece of plywood over the fan.  This spring I hired someone to clean out all of the junk and leave that was in the air conditioner.  We watched TV until it was time to go to bed.
