Trellising the Peas

trellising
The lawn looked like it needed mowing and our lawn mower is not working.  I moved the hoses that were on the lawn; then used the last of the air in the compressor to pumped up the tires.
I have shown the above picture several time, but each time it is more mature.   It is Stansbury Rock Daisy, Perityle stansburyi, which is growing north of house three.  I started up the lawnmower and drove by this plant.  Later I came back to take the pictures.  I has a lot of buds.

I spent nearly an hour helping Alisha Bills in her yard.  I took my little sprayer filled with round up and sprayed a lot of the weeds around he plants.
Carol asked me to cut and remove the sod that was growing on this curb that sets the flower beds from the lawn.
This is a close-up.
I mowed the front lawn first and then the back lawn.  The lawnmower quit before I was finished.  I took the grass to house one and mulched some tomato plants with it.  It is in the picture above.
Yesterday I bought four, ten four foot half inch conduit.  I cut each one into three pieces.  They were three feet, four inches long.  I took them out the garden use the to make trellis for the peas.  I drove them in the ground on the south side of the peas.  They were about twelve feet apart.  The peas were planted over the water line.   I drove one in the ground and hit something hard.  I thought it might be a small tree stump.  I move the conduit three or four inches to the west and did it again.  I pounded harder.  Water started to come up.  I new that I hit the pipe.
I started digging and found the brake. I would of missed it if was 1/2 inch to the south or north.  I broke a 3/4 inch pipe.  I turned of the water and cut out the piece from the far right and the far left.  I took the piece to Roper's for the part to replace it.
I glued them all together.  One part was the wrong size.  I found another part in house four, but it cross threaded.  I found another one which worked.  I turned the water back on and no leaks.
Robert and Frank came with the wand for the sprayer.  They worked on it for over an hour.  To make a long story short, the sprayer nozzle kept plugging up.  They cleaned and plug, etc.  Finally the removed all the hoses and took the home.  The will buy new hoses.

Carolyn Stevens came by to pick up the plants that I started for them several months ago.

Plenty of Work

I made Toma-hangers at various times during the day.  I did some tomato pruning and hanging.
We have a lot of this weed around the yard.  I pulled a few weeds out of the center, then took the picture.  The two beds are in front of the bay windows.
I pulled all the dried up leaves from the tulips and daffodil bulbs.

The mum pictured above came from the cemetery.  We put it on the grave of Sierra, our grand daughter.  It is now planted in the flower bed west of house five.
I planted 31 eggplant seeds, Jaylo,
and 24 bell pepper, Sprinter, seeds.  The seeds are to better in greenhouses than other seeds.

Two Days - Sunday & Monday

Sunday:  We visited three cemeteries after out church meetings.
Above is the headstone of my grandparents on my mother's side.  This is in the Delta cemeteries.
Our first born son is buried here.  He died the morning after he was born.
The wife listed on this stone is a year younger than me.  I knew her in elementary school.  My interest is her husband who is a Sampson.  Is he a relative of mine.

Monday:

Our strawberries are beginning to ripen.  This one has a pill bug or rollie pollie which has eaten some of the strawberry.     I put out some bug bait.  I will see how it goes in the next couple of days.

All of the dead tomato plants in house one were taken out and stacked on the north end of house one. It took me a couple hours to clean remove them.  I put the on my wheelbarrow and hauled to the compost pile between the north and south garden west of the garage..
This is how it looks after I finished.

Irrigation From the Well

The upright poles and 2x2x8 feet posts are called posts and the come in pairs.   Most are held together with a piece of plywood.   After morning chores and breakfast I made one pair.
A couple of days ago I moved the Perityle stansburyi to the above pot. It has perked up some.  I have it outside in the shade.
I put it up in house one.  Later in the day I made two more pairs which is a total of three pairs.  I cut a small dado through the top that will receive the overhead wire.
About 11:00, one of the town employees brought me a large truck load of grass clippings that came from the cemetery.  I wanted it on the driveway.  It was much easier to get a pitchfork under the grass when the grass is on asphalt.  It is difficult when on the ground.

We drove to Fillmore.  Carol had an appointment for and echogram. When I got home I worked more on hanging tomato plants.    I did the watering again.  The plants dry our pretty fast when it is so hot.
I loaded the wheelbarrow many times and hauled them out to various place in the garden.  The main purpose was to cover weeds and prevent weeds from growing.
I blew the grass that was left on the driveway off.
I watered the onions, peas, potatoes, and the strawberry patch as shown in the above photo. The strawberries are the other side of the irises.
There was a lot of debris from the tree on the patio.  I blew it off.
Lastly, I picked a couple of cucumbers.  They are about fourteen inches long.

Changed the Oil and Mowed the Lawn

After morning chores and breakfast, I hung more tomatoes and cucumber plants.
The Sun Gold tomatoes are beginning to get ripe.  Can't wait.  I notice one yesterday, now three or four plants have ripening tomatoes.
I finished cleaning off the lawn.  There was a large triangular piece of plywood that into 3 1/2 half inch squares.  I use the as a footing for the posts in house one.
Yesterday I transplanted these watermelon seedlings.  They are still looking good.  They are outside in the shade.
This large cactus has a lot of pups growing on it, plus a lot of weeds.  I removed weeds in many of the plants and it the same here.  I was going to break off all the pups, and let them scab some and then plant each in their own pot.
These are squash plants.  They have been outside for over a month.  They will take off when planted in the garden.
This has been and interesting tomato plant.   A late volunteer which had one tomato about the size of the smaller ones in the photo.  They have been getting ripe all spring in house one.  They were only one small bite.  It looked to me that it would take to long to fill a pint container.  Therefore, I would not try to propagate it.  When I saw this big one I changed my mind.
I took three cuttings and stuck them in this quart bottle.  They wilted some so I put them in the outside shade.  For fun I took a cutting from a cucumber plant.  Speaking of cucumbers, I picked three nice ones.
I decided to mow the lawn.  I raised the blade up one notch.  I dumped the grass in the garden.  The mower worked pretty good at first, but by the time I was finished, it was not doing as well.  Gasoline was in the oil again.  I started mowing before lunch.
For lunch I made this salad.  Most everything is from our garden.  Sun flower seeds and eggs are from the market.
The dracaena was taken from house two and planted west of the driveway.  The pot is buried in the ground so it won't blow over.
A few other plants were removed from house two and put on the front steps.
I sprayed the morning glory in the north garden.  There five big patches and I sprayed individual plant in other parts of the garden.
I made another pair of posts.  I cut some plywood that was part of the truck box into rectangular pieces that were 16x24 inches.  The one in the picture looks a little big.
At different times during the day I hung tomato and cucumber plants.
These native iris were full of weeds.  I took  some time this late afternoon to pull them out.
