I write all most every day of what goes on in our home in the garden and in the nursery. We are ordinance workers at the Manti Temple on the Tuesday morning shift and the Saturday evening shift. In addition there are several trips to Utah county a couple of times a month and a few short trips to other mountain west areas. Our family is most important to us. All of our children live in Utah except one who lives in Kentucky.

Mow the Lawn - Ran out of Gas
Elisha called me this morning and wanted to see how her plants are doing. She also wanted a Fremont Barberry. The one she got last fall had died.
I got her a new one and she took the four strawberry plants that she didn't get last year. She want a cherry tomato plant in a hanging basket. I put a black Cherry plant in the basket which is in the above photo.
I forgot to pick the asparagus earlier, so I picked it around ten.
I washed it and put it in these large mouth pint bottles and then into the fridge.
I started soaking Green Arrow pea seeds yesterday morning. I prepared the ground which took awhile. I decided not to use my tiller. I figured that I could use a shovel, stirrup hoe, and an V hoe to do the job about the same time of bringing the tiller out which is in house six. I spaded the soil and used the stirrup hoe to break up the clods. and with the V hoe I made a row for the seeds. I broke the clods further by placing a pipe in the row and walking on it. I then planted the soaked peas and covered them with soil. The last thing it did was to walk on the soil to press the soil tightly to the seeds.
I run the water down the row for the rest of the day. It had about three more feet to get to the end.
A couple of days ago Paula Warner called for some Fern Bush. I brought one out to the driveway where I could get a good photo.
I mowed the lawn with my new mower. I was able to mow faster this time. I know how to speed up, slow down, back up with blade running and with blade not running. I also make large turns with the blade off. I mowed up a lot of grass and leaves. I backed up to the west door of house six. I put the leaves and the clippings around the tomato plants for weed control.
There were more weeds in some areas and more grass in other areas.
Comments and questions are welcome.

More Spraying
I filled the spray tank two times and sprayed the tall grass between the shade house and our neighbor's yard. The grass is quite tall. It would have been much easier if I had done that two weeks ago.
Yesterday, I borrowed a neighbor's four wheeler and ten gallon tank. I bought a twenty gallon tank years ago and pushed it on my two wheeled cart with a battery. It was hard to push and didn't work to well. I dusted it off this morning. I think that I can build a platform for it on the deck of my lawn mower. There is a light switch on my mower, but there is no light. I can turn the pump on by using the light switch. I can drive it around and spray to the front and either side.
Carol raked up all the old desert 4 O'clock plants. While I was spraying weeds in the south-east corner of our yard, Carol was raking last year's Desert 4 O'clock. She had four big piles. I put the first one on a blue sheet. I gathered the four corners together, picked it up, and threw it over my shoulder.
I sprayed one more tank after lunch. The wind started to blow. I wanted to spray the weeds on the berm north of the greenhouses, Some of the plants are growing close to gather and I wouldn't want to spray the plants.
I found some petunia seed mix. I should have planted them a month ago, but they should be ready to transplant into the garden by the end of May.
The lawn hasn't been mowed for over two weeks, so I did it this afternoon. I lowered the mower one half inch. The lawn looks pretty good.
At the end of the day I went home teaching.
