Clean-up Gardens

Scriptures, breakfast, and yard work.  I got tired of watching the news, therefore, I went outside.

I went out to the grape vines and found more concord grapes.  There were more than I thought that there would be.
The concord grapes are on the left side of the bucket and the Himrod grapes on the right side.  I ate all of the Himrod grapes.  The concord grapes are in the fridge.
This Topaz melon had been in the garage for over a week.  That was looking pretty unripe when I picked it.
The furnace for house five did not arrive until late this afternoon,  I fixed a pair of 2x4's to hold the furnace stand above the ground.
One of the big projects was to pull all of the geraniums in the kidney.  I pulled all of them up.
I left the purple chrysanthemums.  They are starting to bloom.
I carried a bunch in my arms to one of the compost piles.  I stacked a bunch up and carried them with the pitchfork.  I carried two piles.
I raked off the kidney making it look pretty clean.
I cut down the west hibiscus plant and took it to the compost.
Then I cut down the two east hibiscus plants.

There is a hole were the Dracaena used to be. I hauled four nursery can full of soil.  It took two trips.

I removed the conduit that was holding up the tomato plants.  I would have remove the plant material, but it began to rain.

Church is Back

After breakfast we got our Sunday of potatoes and carrots and Jello ready.  I was up at five and started the roast in the slow cooker.  We listened to part of Taylor and Tyler.  We attend the sacrament meeting and our Sunday school class.  We watched several channel eleven TV shows.

The weather was much warmer.

Propane Tank and Cleaning

This morning after and reading from the Book of Mormon and breakfast, I watched channel seven wood working shows and some others.

I put the sweet potatoes that were on the counter and put them in this box and put them in the garage to cure.  Those that were really were cleaned and put in a pan and boiled.  This was about 11:30.

I mashed them and soaked them with melted butter.  After adding some salt, had them for lunch.  They were tasty until the butter was gone.  I poured on some olive oil witch helped some.
I drove to Fillmore for gas, propane, and air for the tires.  I stopped at Steve's tires for the gas and tires.  They were out of propane.  I got the propane at Fillmore feed.   They put in nearly four gallons of propane.  I bought gasoline at Maverick.
I worked in the garden.  I put the zucchini plant, bean plants, and pepper plants in the compost pile.  It was seven when I started the propane in house five.  It wouldn't start.  After plugged the cord in the outlet.  It started right up.

Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes, Furnace, & Trees

Typical Morning.  Scriptures, breakfast and then checked the greenhouses.

The town crew came around and hauled away all of the broken tree limbs and branches and took them to tree dump.  I didn't know that they were going to do this.  I worked pretty fast cutting the limbs and dragging them out to the road.  I told Rose Ann Frost at the post office to call Rod to come back and get our stuff.  They were soon there and got them loaded.
The furnace in house five is not working.  Andre came and took it apart.  He removed the five burners.  The were dirty and plugged by spider nests.
Here is a view of the five burners.
Here he is putting it back together.
Freshly dug sweet potatoes.
I washed off some of the dirt with a watering can.
I took them into the house and washed them again.  I washed them in a bucket and let them drain in the sink.  I don't like to run dirt into our sewer tank.  I dumped the water outside.
Here is the three pounder.
The potatoes are drying on a towel.  The next step is to put them in the garage where they can cure.
Two handfuls.
Another handful.
I spent the rest of the evening digging potatoes.  I have filled nine nursery tubs since I started to dig a couple of weeks ago.
I will be grading them into two or three sizes for storage.  We can't eat all of these.  Many of them will be given to family and friends.

Carol's Dr. Appointment

After breakfast I dumped the vases containing the dahlias.   Carol had an appointment with Doctor Grose.  He checked he out.

I had the nurse take the above picture.  We then went to the Service Drug store to get her perscription.   We then made deposit at State Bank.
Shane and his crew were working in the shed.
These are the hemp plants in house five.  This evening I walked out to house five to see if the small space heater was turned on.  It wasn't.  Shane and Brenden were outside.  Brenden was going turn it on later this evening and I will turn it off in the morning.

Snow Beginning to Melt

I read from the Book of Mormon.  After breakfast I went to the post office and picked up the mail.

Two lemon, one pomegranate, and the big palm tree is under this black weed barrier.  It is protecting them from freezing temperature.  The sun was shining all day and warmed up house five.
Most of the snow melted in the hoop tunnel.  The hoops went back up.  The snow has mainly melted.  I can see the potato plants now.

Wet Heavy Snow

This morning we woke up to about four inches of snow.   The snow had bent the Dawn Redwood tree to the ground.

Seeing that it would be difficult to back the car onto the street, I got an oak stick about six feet long.  I used it to beat the snow of the tree.

Carol had a present for Grant Johnson, our great grandson.  I made the address label and we posted it at the post office. About an hour after breakfast we drove to Fillmore for some of Carol's medication.  There were no cars in front of the drug store.  Carol parked there.  There was a lot of water running down along the curb.  I got my clogs wet trying to get into the store.  Carol stayed in the car.  The pharmacist said that her prescription would not be there until twelve.  We got a few groceries at the Fillmore Market.  There was a lot of snow in Fillmore.

The west end of house five.  I went inside.  There was a propane burner that was helping keep house five a little warm.  The furnace quit.  I called Andrew Brown.  He said that he might come sometime in the late afternoon.  He didn't come.
The hemp plants and cut of plant material filled the house.

Shane and others are harvesting hemp.  They are in the shed where it is warmer.
This photo is of the hen house.  It's empty now, but the wet heavy snow has bent over the shrubs and trees.
The waight of the snow on the bean plants have bent the hoop house some.  I got three braces to prevent the hoop house from collapsing.  I got quiet wet from falling snow.

About an hour before lunch I began to drain all of the irrigation.  Shane helped me turn off the power to the well.  I then opened every tap and valve in the yard.  I disconnected the hoses.  One was deep in the rose bushes west of the garden.  I cut away the stems,  and was able to remove the cap.
