Concrete the Posts

We were going to begin installing the posts at nine this morning but that didn't happen.   Carol had a couple of jobs for me.  She had three presents to be mailed.  She  wanted me to prepare the presents for Linda, Hannah, and Patrick.  First I had to print the addresses.  The addresses were on the desk top computer in my bedroom.   I had to be connected to the new printer in our family room.  I went to "add printer function" on the desk top compute, but couldn't find the cannon printer.  I clicked on all the buttons and finally found one that said.  "is the printer turned on."  It wasn't.  I turned it on and quickly found the cannon printer.

I printed the address labels and took them to the post office to get some boxes. The box for Linda was weighed.  I paid for it and left it there to be mailed.  I came home and Carol said that it shouldn't be mailed until next week.   I then went back and got the present.   By now it was time to work on the shed.  I met Richard Darnel on the street and told him that I would be right back.  Finally again we began working on the shed.
It took a lot of measuring before the post was securely held into place.  Richard started the concrete mixer and poured in the water and added the sakrete.  After it was well mixed it was dumped into the wheelbarrow  and with a shovel, put concrete in the hole around the post.   The above photo is the northwest corner.
The above fuzzy photo shows the northwest corner.  The north east corner was done first.   We used the two bags that I had and one of the bags that Richard had.  I told him that I would go back to Fillmore for four more bags.  There were four more holes and posts.  We would start again after lunch.  I went to Roper's,  got four bags and then had lunch.  After lunch we located the exact positions of the other four holes.  We are going to finish with the rest tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, I getting more lumber ready for the rafters and walls of the shed.  I took apart and other bench.  The screws were pretty easy to remove except a couple.  I use vice grips to some.  The above photo shows the vice grips hooked to a screw.

Shoe Rack Mistakes

I put on a coat and brought the shoe rack out to the patio, began sanding the facing pieces.   I placed it on a couple of blocks so I could sand without having to bend over as much.
The above photo shows the front.  I had hoped to paint today,  but it didn't work out that way.
I sanded both ends.
Yesterday, I put a strip of wood on each shelf.  It wasn't on the shelf, but under it.  It was to keep the shoes from falling out on the back.  Here I made a narrow strip and glued them to the top of each shelf.  There was not room to hold them with the pin nails.  I put a narrow line of glue and held them tight with clamps.
While the glue was setting up I mowed the lawn.  There was some grass clipping, but mostly leaves.  I made trip after trip to the leaf pile until I finished the job.
The front lawn free of leaves and looking good.
The leaf pile is getting larger.

I made some adjustments to the legs of the shoe rack.  Maybe, pictures tomorrow.  I drove to Fillmore to get some 4x4's.  I need three that are eight feet tall and three that ten feet tall to build a shed to store the tractor, lawnmower and other things that are in house three.  Ropers didn't have any ten footers.  I had them get me some.   I dug a hole last week, and dug five more today.  The ground was so hard that I could only dig five or six inches deep.  I filled them with water three different times.  It will be much easier tomorrow.
The above photo is of the south east corner.
This photo shows two corners where the post will be burried in holes about two feet deep.  The other hole is in the red circle and another one in the upper left hand corner.

Later I called Roper's and told them I would get six eight footers. They said that they had some twelve feet long and the would give me  them for and eight foot price.

October 31 & November 1

31 October 2019

Adam Remkes cut down all the shrubs west of house four and north of house five.  There were a lot of them.  Shane hooked his truck to my trailer and parked it north of the east lawn.  We began to drag them the trailer.  The most difficult one drag and load were the Silver Buffalo Berry is a bushy plant  which is full of sharp thorns.  We. Shane and I, drug the to the road and loaded them on the trailer.
The above photo is a picture where the shrubs were located.  We took the shrubs to the dump and unloaded them there.
We came back and loaded some more.  It took two trips to the dump to move the shrubs and one poplar tree.
We removed all of the aluminum strips.  There was a lot of dirt and mud inside the strips.  I cleaned them.  Adam enlarged the holes so the screws would easily fit.  He rimmed the holes so that the screws would fit the holes more snugly.  Shane had to go home for Halloween.  While he was gone I removed part of a twisted 2x6 and replaced it with another one.  It was to short.  The arrow show wher the two pieces fit together.
November  1
Carol asked me to dig up the dahlias.  The ground was super hard and lightly frozen.  I managed to dig two of them.  They are in a large nursery can in the garage.

I started the tiller and started for house six where it would be stored until I mad a shed for it and the lawnmower.  About half way there the tiller run out of gas.  I put it in neutral and pushed it the rest of the way.  It is good to store it with and empty tank.
I decided to dig the post holes for the shed.  The ground was dry and hard and hadn't made much progress.  I put some water in the hole and started to dig.  It was much easier.  I put more ware in it and came back after the news.  I was able to dig about eighteen inches deep.  I need to go six more inches to get a two foot hole.
