Friday Trip to the Market

We drove to Fillmore for some groceries and to make a deposit.  We wore our new face masks at the market.  They are a way lot more comfortable than the other masks that Lisa brought us.  It was pretty cool this morning.  The forecast for early was close to freezing.  I didn't want to take any chances on any plant damage.  I started water running down the rows in the garden.  The running water is warmer than the air.

I covered the pomegranate to protect the tender buds and blossoms.
The two grape plants that I planted yesterday were really wilted this morning.
I don't think it was stress of the transplanting, but the cold night and morning
I covered them with the small wire basket and burlap.
I then put another piece of burlap on top of both of them.
I laid the shrub down and covered it with two blankets.
This morning I removed the two blankets and stood the shrub back up.  I put the short guy wires back.
Later in the morning I set up the three basket trellis.  One row of tomato plants are put in place.
I was working in the garage and Carol was at the post office.  Carol Masner opened the side door to the garage door.  I came out and she said that the plants are in the kitchen.  There are two baskets.  We placed them on stools.  One in the living room and
Other in the living room.
The poly is off house six.  They are getting ready for planting new hemp plants.
I found a tomato growing which I named it Cherry Banana.  I took some cuttings and hope that they will roots.
There are a bunch of Box Elder maple tree growing in the yard.  I cut all of them down and painted round-up on the stump.  Some are small.  I loaded them into the truck.

Fixing, Weeding, & Soil Prep.

First thing after breakfast is to water the baskets.  Then I fixed the thermostat in house six.  I had to take off the cover and move the red wire on the right so it did not touch any metal.  Of course, I turned off the power.  I fixed it and turned the power back on.  When it got hotter in the late morning, the fans turned on automatically.
I filled the little sprayer with water and a half cup of round-up. I sprayed weeds starting north of house one to the tomato plants in the north garden.  There is a lot of morning glory and some annual weeds.  I used a piece of plywood and wood clamps to shield the tomato plants from any weed killer spray.
We drove to Fillmore for groceries and to get a half in garden hose connecter.  I got the hose from Walmart which cost about $8.00  It is picture above.  We also bought some snail, slug, and grasshopper bait.

This evening I looked over a half our before I found it in the car.  It had rolled under the passenger's seat.  I put the bait in to three green houses and the  two flower beds north of the house.
After lunch I prepared the south garden for watermelon and Topaz melon planting.  I used the tiller to make two rows north of the grape vines and two rows south of the grape vined.  Topaz melons will be planted on the north side and Crimson Sweet on the south side.  This should have been nearly two months ago. I tilled the place for the row and then made a farrow. I run water down each row to make the ground softer for planting tomorrow.
While I was making the farrows I saw an apricot on the apricot tree in the orchard.  There was only one.   I picked it and took it two the house.  There I cut it in half.  I ate half and Carol got the other half.
This is a nice Elder Berry plant.  Several years ago I dumped the elderberry fruits in the garden  A couple of years ago seed germinated and has grown into a nice size bush.  It was laying on the ground.  I drove a pipe into the ground and tied it to the pipe with some twine.  It is now standing up like a bush.
There is flowers and fruits on the same stem.
There are a lot of milk weeds growing west of the driveway garden.  I cut off all the blossoms and pods that are beginning to grow.  I wanted to save the plants for the Monarch butterfly, but I didn't want anymore.
I water everyday and sometimes twice a day the plants in house three.  I keep them too wet or not wet enough.  I cleaned out a spot in pad one for the pictured plants above and below.  The pad fills up automatically with water every three days.   These are being tested to see if they will get enough water.  I may have to change it to every other day.

I am getting control of the weeds in house one.  I hoed out the weeds out of the row in the above picture.
I was going out to house two to shut off the water and nearly stepped on this frog/toad.  I haven't seen one of these for several years.

Good Bill of Health From My Cardiolgist

This morning after breakfast we picked the cucumbers.  Carol picked the burpless cucumbers at the top left and I picked the Armenian cucumbers on the bottom left.  Carol cleaned them and we delivered most of the to the Frosts and Stymles.  We then hurried to Fillmore
I had an appointment with my cardiologist at 10:15.  We were there on time and went right in to an exam room.  Dr. Dahl said that everything was good, and I can discontinue one of my blood pressure pills.  We did a little shopping and got home at noon.

Last week the knob for the dishwasher broke.  While in Fillmore I bought a knob at Roper's Lumber.  I put it on the dishwasher. it was too large.  I was about to put it back in the package when I saw the small set screw at the bottom.  Finding my little driver, I screwed it in tight and it worked.  The arrow does not point to the right function, but we turn it until we here the water coming in.  It worked good tonight.
After lunch, and a BTL sandwich I caught up on some lap top time.  Later in the day I watered the greenhouses.  Still later I pruned some trees and shrubs in the backyard.  I drug them to the trailer where I loaded them.

Last week I cut a large branch of the Box Elder tree.  With pruners and the chainsaw I cut it into smaller pieces and it is now on the trailer.
There are several elm trees growing near the road.  I had the chainsaw here.  I decided to cut them down and poison the tree with round-up.  I cut one of the smaller branches down with the chainsaw.  I attempted the larger one, but the saw was so dull, I quit.
It was pretty heavy, but I was able to drag it over the trailer tongue and pull it onto the trailer.
I had a half hour left before the news.  I did some heavy tomato pruning in house six.  There is much more to do.

I posted sale of Gambel Oak on EBay this evening.  So far it hasn't showed up on EBay.
