To Provo and Back in Less Than Five Hours

We had planned on driving to Provo yesterday, but Carol did not feel well.  This morning a little after eight we drove to Provo.  We stopped at Walmart and then at Sam's Club.  We got a few things to eat and the rest were cat food and soaps, etc.   We stopped at the Red Barn for ice cream.   We were home at 12:30.

Last Thursday we were in North Las Vegas where we picked lemons at Anne and Fred's backyard.  As soon as we got home we began to juice the lemons.  it took over and hour to do that.  There was a good three quarts of lemon juice.  Below is a peak into the fridge.

 There is an old board, 2x4 about seven feet long.  I brought it into the garage and pulled out some of the nails.  I don't know where it came from, but from the picture one can see that is old.  On Pinterest I found a three legged stool called a Viking Stool.  I am going to make one from the old board.  I cut five pieces sixteen inches long.  I then ripped off bad edges.  I glued them together for the seat..  In the morning I will begin to shape it.  I also removed the clamps late this evening.

While the glue is setting, I started the weed whip and cut down the weeds in the iris garden.  Hope to have it tilled next week.

Carol put some of the lemon juice into freezer trays.  Late this evening she removed the lemon cubes and put them in a zip bag.  Then she filled the two trays again.  They are in the freezer and will be removed in the morning.  There is not enough room in the freezer for all of the trays.  That's why it is done two trays at a time.

Slow Day

I applied lawn fertilizer to the strawberry plants after breakfast.  They haven't done well this spring.

This morning we went to Fillmore.  I made a deposit and got the sprayer to spray the potato plants that infested with flea beetles.  I should have done that several weeks ago.  I found a two gallon spray tank that I used several years ago.  It was hard to build up the pressure.  It had a chemical in it, but I couldn't tell what it was.  I first thought that it was round-up.  I sprayed weeds, then I thought that it might be malathion.   I found in the shed some Neme oil that would kill flea beetles and leaf miners.  I mixed it one teaspoon per gallon of water.  I made two gallons twice.  It worked really well.  Much better than the old one.


With the 15 gallon sprayer fixed and the iris sample removed and replanted I will spray the iris patch and the weeds.   There are peonies there which I don't want to spray.  I cut them down to the ground and then with the weed whip I cut them down to ground level.  I will let them dry out a couple of days and then spray.  The photo doesn't show much but might give an idea of how it looks.


I planted more pole beans and put up some twine.  There now is a mix of two different varieties of pole beans.

Several weeks ago I spayed a lot of the weed next to the road north of the greenhouses.  This afternoon I had the weed whip out.  I cut down the dead weeds.

The Fox-tail lilies are really looking pretty this spring.  I couldn't resist getting a picture.

 Another flower that I have been watching is picture below.  I moved it from a place by the neighbors to the east of us on the road right away last fall.  I don't know its name, but hope to find out this summer.

Sunday, the Day Before Memorial Day

We planned on a busy day.  I was up at day light, showered, shaved, and did the watering.  I watered houses one, two, three, and five.  Carol watered the pots and baskets in our front yard.  We had breakfast.  After breakfast we picked iris and Jupiter's beard. 

 After sacrament meeting we loaded the flowers and drove to the Sutherland cemetery.  We put flowers on the headstones shown below.

Our first bay, David Merrill, born 8 February 1964 and passed away the following day.  We were heartbroken.  The pain is eased knowing that we will be reunited with him in the millennium  where we can raise him to adulthood.

The headstone of my parents whom I dearly love.  It will be so good to meet them and other relatives in the hereafter.

We drove to Delta to flower my grandparents.

While in Sutherland we received a call from Eric and April.  They invited us to meet them in the Provo North Park.  It took us a little 1 1/2 hours to get there.  We missed the picnic. There was plenty left over.  We each mad a sandwich.  I had some watermelon and  we had some cookies.  Below is Paiten and Hanna.  They were in the car ready to go back home.

Quinten had finished his lunch and was taking a nap.

We then drove to the Provo cemetery where we put flowers on the headstone of Carol's parents.

It was nearly six when we got home.  I did the watering again.  Some of the new tomato plants in house one had really wilted.

Graduation

We drove to Salem this morning.  Sadie Johnson is graduating this morning.  We were there plenty early and had a good seat.  The sun was in our face and we got hotter and hotter.  Jeanne joined us. 

Holden, Megan, and Ezra showed up before the graduation ceremony began.  I got the picture of Ezra while we were in the shade under the bleachers.

We waited in the shade until Sadie and Jeanne were on the grass.  We joined them and exchanged hugs and gave our congratulations.  Sadie is between grandma and grandpa Johnson.

We were to meet Robert, Jeanne, Halley, Jared, and Sadie at Molly's restaurant south of the DI.  We were a little late getting there.  It was a buffet where we decided on the main dish and how many sides we wanted.  We then paid for our meal.  The picture was taken by Sadie's friend who was there.

We got some ice cream at the Red Barn.

I couldn't pass this iris by our back porch without taking a picture.  It has been blooming for weeks.

I have worked on the spray tank for quite a while now.  I finally remove the Double threaded bulk head fitting.  There is a lot of clean4-up to do.  

This is the Double threaded bulk head fitting.  All I need to do is order a new one and put it together and then I am back in business.
