Saturday, Sunday, & Monday (today).

The chickens are starting to lay.  It seems like it has taken a long time.  I put a clock and light in a last week to keep the day light longer.

The sweet potatoes are beginning to grow.  I have sprinkler that is turned down low and leave it on most of the day.

The potatoes have been doing really well except for the one on the right. It should be looking like the one on the left.  Flea beetles and earwigs have been eating them.  I sprayed them with Sevin.  It really works on grasshoppers and the label says it will kill flea beetles and earwigs.

When we got home from church Sunday, the little bucket was at our front door.  It has some kitchen items in it.

When I was watering Sunday afternoon, this dove was in house 2.  It was gone by Monday morning.

I started work this morning at six.  It was much cooler.  I tied up all the cucumber plants and some of the tomato plants.  I picked a whole bunch of cucumbers this morning and wrapped them.  I took seventeen of them to Duane's Market.  He gave me 45 cents each.  

We used the cucumbers and store bought peppers to make sweet relish.  There are thirty-one half pints, and one pint and one fourth pint.  We made three different batches.  These should last all year.  

I moved more plants onto pad one.  Less that I have to water. I lowered the watering time by ten minutes. The water will run for two hours and ten minutes.

Carol's Dr Appointment

The first thing this morning I watered the different flower beds and the pots.   We watered in the various gardens.  Houses two and three and the plants on the benches in front of the houses were well watered.  We left a little after eight for Carol's appointment.

This looks like a pond.  It is pad one that I cleaned up some yesterday.  The water started at three this morning and which is two or three inches deep.  I checked it out this evening and all of the pots were well watered.

We met with here doctor and was told that her condition had improved and she would not have to go back unless some new problems developed.  We visited with Carol's brother for a short time.  We ate at a Chineness buffet and then shopped.

Our last stop was at the Payson WalMart.  By then Carol was so tired she jumped into a battery operated cart.  We stopped at the Red Barn for ice cream.

I picked twenty-four cucumber and wrapped them and put them in the fridge.  I think that there are seventy-five cucumbers in the fridge.

Cleaning Pad One

I pruned all the tomato plants in house one.  I tried to get finished before it was to hot.  I also tied the new growth the twine.

The weeds were terribly thick and tall on the north row in house six.  I started hoeing them out on hand and knees.  I tried shoveling and that didn't work very well.  Using a long handled hoe worked the best.  You can see the weeds that I dug out to the right of the shovel.  It was mostly the same to the end of the row.  I did not water them today.  I will stir them up some in the morning to allow the soil around the roots to dry.

I put upside down tree baskets over the tomato plants.  They make the best tomato cages. I usually use three per plant.  I sprayed the weeds on the north row of tomato plants last week and they are dying.

I started to clean a little space for some plants to be watered automatically on pad one.  This evening I cleaned out a large space using a shovel and hoe.  I made a pile of soil, leaves, and other plant material.  Mostly grasses. I shortened the watering time by twenty minutes and watered every other day instead of every third day.  The plants that I put out a couple of days ago got a little to dry.

I started using the broom to sweep away the dirt.  The blower worked a lot better.  There is a weed barrier, but it doesn't stop seeds that blow in.

I debated this one in my mind.  I was and then I wasn't.  Finally I decided to plant forty-eight Orient Express  Hybrid.  The package said 100 seeds.  I will water them in the morning.  My plan is to transplant them on the south side of house six about eighteen inches apart.

July Fourth

I started the flower beds north of the house right after my shower.  I watered the Topaz melons and the Crimson Sweet watermelon.  We wanted all that to be done before we drove to Fillmore for the July fourth parade.  I also watered house two and three.

I picked a nice batch of raspberries.  Carol got half and I got the other half.  We ate them in the afternoon.

 The snail bait that I put out last night was effective.  There were seven dead or nearly dead in house three.  After I got the picture, I took them out to the road where I stepped on them.

 The parade was very good.  Most floats emphases our county and the American flag.

 We came home instead of getting in the food lines at the park.  We made sloppy Joes.  They were really good.  I then picked all the cucumbers that were ready.  There were seventeen of them.

 I wrapped them with plastic wrap and put them in the fridge.

 I put more plants on pad one.Those that were there a couple of days ago have retained the water.

I am cleaning more area for more plants.  I expect to have more out later.  It will save a lot of time watering.
