Sunday with Richard

I got up a little after five to put the roast in the slow cooker.  I went back to bed and it was after seven when I got up, Richard was still in bed when I got up, I weighted myself and recorded it in my iPad.  Richard got up.  I showered, said my prayers and shaved.   Carol and I ate breakfast.  I fixed breakfast for Richard.  Then I finished my breakfast.  Richard left and while he was gone, he had a flat tire.   He had to crawl under his truck to get the spare tire.  It was hard to crawl under and get the spare tire.  When he got home, he needed to jack up the truck which was also hard.  He put on the other tire.  I needed more air.  I got my air compressor, and we brought the pressure to normal.   I was ten minutes late to choir practice.  The sacrament meeting speakers did a good job.  Likewise, the priesthood meeting teacher did a good job.  When we got home dinner was pretty much ready.  We had a good dinner of a pot roast, mashed potatoes, cauliflower mixed with a cheese sauce.

I took this picture of our Sunday dinner.  Richard at the end of the table and Carol on the right.  After dinner Richard left.
I had Richard walk out to house five to see a strange trail in the soft soil.  It looked like something a snake might make.  We had warm-ups for supper.  I turned on the fans in house five.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Saturday

I was going to get up at six. I had about a half hour to get up on time.  I went back to sleep and when I woke up it was twenty after six.  Richard was up when I got up.  I showered, started the cooling the old-fashion oatmeal mush.  After breakfast we watched the morning news and later we watched the woodworking shows.  Richard had left.  Carol showered and did her hair. Richard came back before we finished breakfast.  We drove to Fillmore for groceries.  We went into the Fillmore Market and a few things.  We then went to Cluff's where bought a small hamburger for me, and a large hamburger for Richard, Carol got a salad.  We also got an order of fries.   After lunch I mowed the lawn.  There was no grass, but a lot of leaves.

I made many trips back to the garden where I dumped the leaves.  I plugged the lawn mower shoot several times.
I took this picture of the back lawn.  Not many leaves.
There was a lot of leaves on the driveway.  I mowed them up with the lawn mower, but there still was a lot of leave parts on the driveway.  I hooked up the blower and blew the leaves of the driveway.
I bought two sweet potatoes. I put them into two wide mouth bottles.  I used three small nails to hold the potatoes up. Carol fixed porkchops for supper.
It is veterans' day to day.  We had a flag in our front yard all day.  We watched TV most of the evening until we went to bed.

Clean-up

I lay in bed watching my clock.  There was a little over an hour of sleep time left.  I usually get up at six.  It was ten after six.  I turned up the thermostat to 73 degrees.  I weighted, showered, dressed, fed the cats and prepared breakfast.  After breakfast we watched the channel 44 movies.   I then went to the post office to pick up mail.  This afternoon I worked in the garden.  Most of the following photos illustrates it.

These things come from the south garden.  The top is the twine we used for trellising the tomato and cucumber plants, The tomahookes are under the twine.   They are stored in the shed until next year.
I took a picture of this large pinyon pine tree that is north of the north garden.
This is a photo of this giant sequoia tree.  It is such a pretty green tree.
All of the dead tomato plants are piled on this compost.
Here is the second planting of celebrity tomatoes.  All the vines are gone.
The plants are gone and all that is left are the frozen tomatoes.
I dug up all of the frozen celebrity tomato plants.
I picked a topaz melon that had been frozen for two weeks.  I gave it to the chickens.  I thought that the chicken would start to peck at it.  They didn't.  I cut it in half with a shovel.
I took another photo showing some of the chickens.

It is about eight. Richard arrived.  He will be here for a few days.   We watched they last MASH TV .show until we went to bed.

Provo Utah Temple

I got up several times during the night for a bathroom break.  It was six when I got up showered and shaved.  I read the last chapter in the Book of Mormon.  I cooked some old fashion oatmeal mush and then fed the cats.  Carol was up a little later.  I prepared breakfast.  We watched part of the channel 44 TV shows.  I put the temple suitcase in the car, and then put on my suit.  It was a little after nine when we left Holden for the Provo Utah temple.  We drove to Linden where we picked up Miles and Nyleen Batty.  We then drove back to Provo.  We found a handy capped parking space which was close to the front door of the temple, we put on our white temple clothes and met in the chapel, After the session was over, we took the Batty's back to their home.  Nyleen had a sack lunch that we ate on the way home.  We got off the freeway at the Red Barn and drove Nephi.  We got back on the freeway and drove the rest of the way home.  It was nearly five when we got home.

We watched TV until we went to bed.

Put Away

I fixed breakfast and fed the cats while Carol was in the shower. After breakfast we watched the channel 44 movies.  It rained and snowed a tiny amount.  When they were over, I drove to the post office and picked up the mail.  We had a frozen dinner for lunch.  I worked in greenhouse five preparing the dahlias for the winter.

There were several things that helped prepare them for the winter.  First, in the northwest corner of greenhouse five was a small pile of dried-up potting soil.  Second, there was a large nursery pot that I could use for storing the dahlias.  I found another pot filled it with some used potting soil in the south garden.  I put the dahlias in the pots and filled it with the used potting soil.  The above photo illustrates the procedure.
Here are the two pots.  One completely covered with potting soil and the other partially covered with the potting soil.

I moved further to the east end of the greenhouse and put a water breaker on the end of the hose and then spray the buried dahlias.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Furnace Fixed

It was six this morning when I got up.  After breakfast I dug up all of the dahlias. There was time to watch most of my morning TV shows.

The ground was good and wet from running sprinklers on them yesterday morning.  I dug them and loaded them on to my cart and parked the cart west of greenhouse five.  I went after the mail and there wasn't any.  After lunch I took the cart of dahlias into greenhouse five.

I turned on the hose.  I put a clump of dahlias on top of a five-gallon bucket.  With my finger over the end of the hose, I then began to spray them.  I turned the clump around and put it upside down to expose all sides of the clump.  I washed most of the dirt off the roots.   The above photo shows how the is done.  I washed all of the dahlias. except for a few.

After lunch, called Andrew Brown.  He said that he was in Delta and would be here in an hour or so.  I continued to spray the dahlias until he came.  It was more than an hour when he and his helper came. I think that they were here a little more than an hour.
He and his helper came while I was washing the dahlias clumps. I appeared to them that there was not enough gas pressure.  Here they are putting pipes together to improve the pressure.
The temperature in house five at that time is about 65 degrees.
Here they are removing an old gas pressure regulator.  They put in a new part cost nearly $600.   They got everything hooked up and turned up the thermostat.  The furnace fired up.  They did that several times.

After supper we watched TV until we went to bed.
