Dumped and Mowed

The trailer has branches and tree limbs collected over a couple of months of pruning.  Carol thought that it would be a good time to unload the trailer.  I thought differently and do it at another time.  I quickly changed my mind.

The trailer had one tire that was pretty low.  I filled our small compressor three times to get the tire completely pumped up.  Carol got the key while I was filling the tire.  It didn't take long to unload at the dump.

 A volunteer tomato was in the garden last ear.  I dug it up and to some cuttings and planted about five in house six. The photo above from one of those plants.

I picked a basket of them later.

I wanted to have one in house two for next year.   I cut off the top of one vine, dug it up and transplanted it in house two.

It will be fun to watch to see how well it will do this winter.

I mentioned to the Smiths, a member of our ward, that if they ever needed and anymore tomatoes, I had some.  They came today and we picked two buckets.

The lawn has not been mowed for quite a long time.   I changed the oil and started the mower.  I mowed the west lawn, the front lawn, and the east lawn.  The longer I mowed the more trouble I had keeping the lawn mower going.  It got so bad and began smoking.  I managed to get it back to house three.  I will finish the back lawn tomorrow.

Smoking Lawnmower

After morning chores and breakfast I picked three buckets of tomatoes.

These are for Ann Stephenson, our neighbor.  The buckets are little over half full.  The weight of the tomatoes will smash the tomatoes on the bottom.  

We ate our first corn from our garden last Sunday.  I picked a bucket full of corn wondering if it ripe enough.  I shucked it and it was okay.  I picked the rest of the corn except for a few ears that we will eat next week.  There is another row of corn that will be ready in a couple of weeks.

After the corn has been cut of the cob, it is put on the cookie tray.

It is covered with plastic wrap and but in the freezer in the garage. 

I drained the oil and put in some new oil.  It was a combination of power steering oil and motor oil.  I cleared the lawn of garden hoses. The battery was dead.  I put on the battery charger and charged it for ninety seconds.  It started right up.  I mowed the front, west, and east lawns without difficulty.  It quit on the back lawn.

The engine was quitting and smoke was coming out of the exhaust pipe. I shut it  off.  I took a picture as the smoke gently drifted to the west.

I started it up again and was able to finish mowing the lawn.  The mower all most stopped, but kept going.  I stopped north of house two and got the above picture.  I dumped the grass and drove into house three where I keep it.  

 I planted this 1206 tray with sweet corn.  I put one seed in each cell.  I will have 72 plants if they all grow.  These will be planted in house two.

This 1206 tray is planted with Elder Berry seeds.  This tray was put in house three.  I expect it to germinate some time in March.

The tool that I made to lift the tomato plants by the TomaHook did not work properly.  I glue the little piece of wood to the tip.  Tomorrow will shape it.

The Lawnmower Died

This morning after doing some of the watering in the garden I began work in house one.  It is the same old story.  Prune and drop.  I used a small step stool to reach the high wires.  There was not room in the next row for the step stool.

I built the small stool.  It is twelve inches tall.  It is light weigh and easy to move and easy to stand on.  It is made out of 2x4's,  The top is made out of tongue and grove siding that I found at the dump  It took me a couple of hours.  After I solved the design problem it went pretty fast.

 This afternoon I drained the oil and put in a new quart of new oil. When I turned the key, the battery was dead.  I put the charger on and then got the weed whip, but it would not start.

The lawnmower started but it wasn't easy.  I started on the front lawn and mowed around it and the mower slowed down and stopped.  After it rested a while I got it started again.  I could mow ten feet or so and it would slow down.  I could keep it going by shutting the blade and then stopping the forward motion, and then I pull the throttle half way back.  I would then give it full throttle engage the blade and in a moment or two I could mower another ten to twenty feet.  The process was repeated.  I finished the front lawn, and then the east lawn,  I dumped the catcher and mowed the west lawn.  I mowed 3/4's of the back lawn and it quit.  Carol said that it was shooting flames out the exhaust.

The lawnmower quit early in the spring.  We drained the gas that was in the tank.  Some of it ended on the lawn.   A dead spot has been on the lawn since then.  There is a lettuce plant growing in the dead spot.

It was our turn to help clean the church.  I vacuumed the chapel while Carol cleaned the rest rooms and kitchen.  It took us about an hour and one half to do that.

I just went out to turn off the water in house one and six and lock up the hens.  The driveway was wet. So we got what would be called a trace of rain.
