Grape Vines & Felling Trees

Monday morning, sheets, and making beds.

A couple of pictures are from Saturday and Sunday.  Most are in chronological order.

There are several amaryllis plants in greenhouse two.  This has been in the house for a couple of days and has three beautiful flowers that don't have stems.  There is a stem going up that will have one more flower.  And it looks like there may be another one coming out of blub.

The Bray house as of yesterday, Sunday.  They are putting on the shingles.  

 Yesterday, Sunday,  I cut some asparagus.  There was not much, but I had it for Sunday dinner.  Salt, pepper and butter turned it into a small delicious treat.

The rest of the photos were taken today.

The apricot tree is really blooming.  Last year the blossoms froze and produced only three ripe apricots.  

Holden clean-up is this week.  I worked on pruning and stacking tree branches for nearly an hour this morning.

There branches from Austrian pine at the end of our driveway hanging down and sometimes we rub against the branches when backing out of our driveway.  I cut off two of them and drug them across the street to be picked up some time this week.

I hoed out some weeds that were growing next to an asparagus plant,

There are two large pots of grape plants in house two.   They should have been planted a month ago or more.  I wanted to be ready for the water when I finished planting them.  Before I brought out the plants I made an irrigation ditch and dug the hole.

I used my carpenter saw to cut the plants apart.  The photo shows the saw, the plants, and the empty nursery can.

 Here is the first pot.  There were only five plants.

I trimmed off the branches so that there was two or three nodes on the stem and a few leaves.

I cut down trees in the south east  corner of our property.  Many died for the lack of water.  The water is in a pipe.   I don't know how many, but was able to fell them in a safe direction.  One fell to the  east and was safe, but made a lot of noise which scared their horses.  

The was a bag of lime in house five all winter.  It was rained on and snowed on and the bag sort of melted away.    

I shoveled it in the wheelbarrow, and pushed it out to the road west of our driveway.

I dumped it and spread it around.  It may kill some of the weeds, but I really don't think so.

I picked more asparagus this evening.  There is about three times more that I picked yesterday morning.

I cut away all of the old asparagus plants and then dug up some of the weeds.   More weed removal in a couple more days.

189 General Conferece

The conference sessions are over.  For two days we have been instructed by general authorities and sister authorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  The have been inspiring and faith promoting.   Many time the preparation for the second coming of Jesus Christ was mentioned.

There has been a lot of expectations of announcements of future church activities.  They never came until president Nelson spoke during the last fifteen minutes of the Sunday afternoon session.  He announced the building of eight new temples.  One place was in the Tooele valley.  I have thought that there would be a temple there pretty soon.

Sprayed Weeds

This morning I replaced the shower curtain with a new one we bought yesterday.

It is hard for me to get a picture of anything with the a window he hind it.  Putting up the new show curtain was pretty fast and easy.

Carol has been taking care of the Stephenson's cats.  There are three of them.  Two are gentle and are well behaved.  The other one hasn't been seen for a couple of days.  Carol put food outside of the back door.  Who has been eating it? it has been our cat, Sampson.

I worked most of the morning in house two.  There was a lot of transplanting that needed to be done.

Yesterday, I bought a bale of potting soil.  This morning I opened up the bag and shoveled it into the soil box.  I started with Big Steak tomatoes.

The plants were two large to put them in tray with seventy-two cells.  Instead, I put them into jumbo packs with thirty-two cells..

I then put them in the small 2 1/2 inch pots.   The pot fits perfectly in the hole.  I held the plant in the pot and pulled soil around it.

I did a tray of Big Leaf Basil.

I pruned the poinsettia that we got in November.  It has looked good until recently when I took to house two to put fresh life into it for the coming November.

There are a bunch of Amaryllis in house two.  This one started a bloom just a little above the soil level.  There is another stem growing.   I brought another one in the house that has one long stem.  There are two more in house two that will soon be ready for the house.

 The broccoli is ready.  it is in the fridge ready for cooking.

I pulled a lot of radishes.  Many are split and cracked and not suitable to sell.

The next photos are of three deer that we see in our yard nearly daily.  

Pine in the foregrounds was damage late last fall by a large buck.

 The asparagus are beginning to come up.  I did a lot of clearing last years stems.

I sprayed grass a couple of weeks ago along the south fence.  Filled up the tank three or four times and did a lot of spraying.  

In the tree above the these chickens is a bird feeder.  I kept it full much of the winter.  The chickens scratch it all the time looking for little piece that fell in the grass.

I used several different hoes to dig weeds in house six.

I pulled up these beets and washed them.  I took them in the house and washed them again.  I cut them into small pieces and I was too full two eat any.  I will have them sometime tomorrow or Sunday.  They are in the fridge.

Six Month Check-up

We drove to Orem, Utah this morning to see my cardiologist.  We were on the road by 8:30.  We made a brief stop in Nephi and was in the doctor's office by ten.  Our appointment was 10:45.  It didn't take long to see the doctor.  We then drove to Linden where Carol's Sister and brother-in-law lives.  We visited awhile and Miles cut my hair.

We needed to by a baby present for Maison's baby shower Saturday.  We stopped at the Orem Wal Mart.  We looked for quite awhile and got the presents and a birthday present for Ezra, Holden and Megan's first born, and our great grandson.  We then went to check out.  We had a true test of patience because the woman in front of us about twenty minutes to check out.  It looked like she was buying for four different people.  She presented several small documents which may have been from welfare.  She used credit cards on some of purchases and apologized to us several times.

We then went to the In & Out for a hamburger.  We got two burgers, one drink. and an order of fries.  I ate mine and half of Carol's.  On the way home we stopped a Sam's Club and got a few things.  We then drove home.

I had to be home to help at the Seed Bee at the town hall.  It was all ready set up.  I came home and watered house two.  Some of the plants were in bad need of water.  I went two the town hall again and no one was there.  I came home and then went back.  At seven several families came.  We got a good started preparing the trays for planting.  A dancing group came in at eight.  Two groups were scheduled at the same time.  We took all of our stuff outside.  Stuff are trays, soils, seeds, tables, and water.  It was nearly dark when I left.  I shut the greenhouse doors.

The Man From the Bank

The chickens are really doing well.  Seven chickens, and yesterday there were seven eggs and today they laid six.   I am expecting Trent Anderson from Zion's Bank in Delta.  He helped complete the papers.   Carol was gone and he and I worked for over an hour on them.

This morning we took our garbage to the they.  The dumpster was only one fourth full.  The picture above shows the other dumpster with just a few things in it.  I also took two pallets to the landfill.  I have two tires and about seven gallons of used motor oil that I want to get rid of.

I hauled these cardboard boxes to the west compost pile.  More cleaning of house five.  There was a couple of boxes of fire wood in house five that were wet all winter. The boxes fell apart.  I put them in new boxes.

I took another pallet apart.  I used the skill saw to cut it apart.  I have quite a few pieces for making small stools.

Native Plant Customer

 

I began digging a trench and then planting the rhubarb in the trench.  They were being planted to close together.

I then laid the rhubarb out  in a line.  They are still too close together.

I got them planted and start running water down the row.

While a was doing this, a car drove up in front of the house.  Three people got out of the Subaru with three bicicles on the back of their car and walked towards me.   They introduced themselves and

This fernleaf peony is getting a good start.  Since it has warmed up some, it really taking off.

Pallet and Shreds

Sunday:

This is how I found the Orbit Time/Valve.  It was off.  I don't remember of ever turning it off.  This is the third time that if have found the dial turned to the off position.  I reset the timer.

The block building on the Thomas lot extends about six feet into the Bray lot.  Danny has to remove the part on the Bray lot.  l don't know how it will be done.

This picture was taken at the same time as the other picture above, but at a different angle.

I went with Carol to the see Dr. Gross.  She has stomach pains.  She went to the hospital to have some lab work done.

The shreds are used as a m  I mulched the tomato plants with shreds to help hold the drip tape and also to kill any annual weeds that come up.

 I also put shreds on the cabbage plants and the Brussel sprouts.

Here is a row of shreds.  In the top right hand corner are the tomato plants.  I also made some wooden stakes with names of some more of the plants.

 How five is going to be a garden.  I started to clean it up.  I took all of the dead plants and pots and used them to cover the pipe that goes along the south fence.  In the photo above is the tube trays.  I moved them to house three.

These are some of the pieces that were on the wheel barrow.

There is about ten trays on the two wheeled cart.  

The pallet above has three pieces of good oak.  The slats will be good for some small project.  I took it apart.  I was able to pull out some of the nails to help free the pieces.  Some I couldn't.  I used my jig saw to cut them free.
