Almost from Sun-up to Sun-down

After the morning news and breakfast I began the yard work.

Yesterday, I transplanted eight  Purple Cherry.  I didn't get the picture until this morning.

It was a cool morning so I made an irrigation furrow for the potatoes.  I dug it on the south side and put the soil on top of the potatoes.  

There some large Candy onions that I planted from seed around the first of the year.  I made seven holes, put the onion in the hole and pushed soil around it.  I didn't cut off the tops of the onions.

The Stephenson's next door wanted some rhubarb.  I pulled a bunch of stems for them.

I ordered seeds for Alisha.  These are Miracle Fruit seeds.  There were four in the package.    We also planted some strawberry seeds and one that we could not find the name.

Here Alisha planted some in a clear plastic drinking cup.  It is a cup in a cup.  She made a hole in the bottom of the cup with the soil.  Then put water in the bottom cup to guarantee that the planted cup would get well irrigated.

 Carol is giving the lesson at the DUP meeting Monday.  Part of her lesson has to with silk worms and mulberry tree.  The above photo is one that I think that Brigham Young had planted through out the state.

I ordered lady bugs and they were early this afternoon..  There are 500 in each container.

Clair Harmon ordered sod and it came today.  Several people helped lay down the sod.

I can't tell who this is.

 We had a break for cookies and a drink of water.

A couple of days ago, Sister Harmon bought some geraniums from us.  She planted them in the planter near the front door.

The burpless cucumbers are coming up.

Just before dark I turned loose the lady bugs in house six.  There cabbage and other things that are lousy with aphids.  I was going to put on container in house two and the other one in house six.  House six has a whole lot more aphids than house six does.

Work & More Work

It was about 7:45 this morning when I checked the greenhouses, mainly houses two and six.  Everything looked fine except house six.

The controller was in the off position.  Last night when I shut the doors I could hear the water was running.  I didn't look ar the controller, but it was obvousily working correctly.

A photo of grape plants that I rooted from cutting of the plants from the Miles Batty's yard.   All of them are alive, and are showing a stem bud.  I watered them.

While out by the grape vines I  saw  large asparagus stems.  I came back later and cut a nice batch of shoots.  There are two pint bottles in the fridge.  The one on the right is the one I picked today.  I had them for supper.

I didn't get a picture, but I cut a nice bunch of peas that are growing in house six.  We had them for supper also.

I planted eight large tomato plants.  Didn't get a picture of that either.

There is a large hardy Pampas grass  growing in the flower bed west of our driveway.  It is the light area a little bit left of center.

I have a couple of hoops or bows made from cattle panels.  I have a hard time keeping the ends off the ground.  I found a treated 2x6 I cut off two fifty inch pieces.  There is one for each end.  the panal would not sit smoothly   I sawed a grove near the center of the board.  The depth of the groe was the same diameter of the rods of the bow.   I cut a small piece of wood and drilled holes through the wood and then screwed in to the wood.

Last week I planted carrots in this raised bed.  It has be rained on and watered.  I put welded wire over it to keep off the chickens.  Today, I covered t with two layers of burlap hoping that it will keep the seeds moist.

I heavily pruned the grape plants that are by the hen house.

These grape vines have been here a long time and they are getting pretty large.

Here was growing a rose bush with multiple stems.  I cut it down and painted the stumps with round up.

Service & Ministering

We did not eat at the cafeteria at the Manti Utah temple, but we came straight home with a quick stop at the Hot Spot in Salina for an ice cream cone.

I had a quick lunch after I got home.  I spent some time in the gardens watering.  Some watered are peas, carrots, onions, potatoes, and grapes.  The service project was scheduled this afternoon at Alisha Bills house for 5:30.  I got all my tools in the truck so I would be ready at the given time.

Three of us were there.  I was hoping for at the least twice that many.  Phil Whatcott was there when I got there, and Claire Harmon, in the center came a little later.  Merrill Johnson, me, is on the left.  I trimmed around most of the shrubs on both sides of the fence.  They  trimmed around planter and most other places.

Saturday, Sunday, & Busy Monday

Not much done on Saturday.  I watch my woodworking show and then watered and then we drove to the Manti Utah Temple.

Rain & Mowing

It rained off and on much of the morning.  I got my seeds and went to house two.  I went through the seeds and took out the ones I needed.  I planted half tray of Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Brussel sprouts.    I also planted a trays of burpless cucumbers.  Next I planted Black Beauty eggplants, and some seeds from the eggplants that we had in house one.   The last planted was 105 bunching onions.

Speaking of bunching onions, some animals, most likely a dog, walked through the transplanted onions.  I left some large foot prints in bed one.  The prints of its paws went deep in the soft soil.

I cleaned the fertilizer tank.  I dump the full  bag of Peter's fertilizer in the tank.  That was yesterday.  I took the picture this morning which showed how much fertilize was used last yesterday evening.  If I did that everyday, the tank would be empty within a week.

I put the seeded trays in this small wading pool.  The water soaked up all was very wet.

It stopped raining and after lunch I loaded four large Golden Current plants  in the truck and drove to Alisha's house to plant in her yard.  It took an hour to dig four holes and put in the plants.  The above photo shows Alisha by the last plant planted.

Before I started mowing I started my chain saw and cut a branch off the tree.  It was in the way of my mowing.  I also cut a couple of branches off the Dawn Redwood tree.

I mowed the lawn which nearly two hours.  While I was mowing Wade Lemon, our neighbor, came over.  He wanted about twenty-five #five  nursery cans.  He loaded them on his truck.  He cut a large circle out of the bottom of the nursery can.  He  is going to use them for tomato plants.

I put the clippings around the tomato plants in house six.
