More Family Visitors

We started the Sunday morning as usual, but it may be a new normal.   We had breakfast.  Carol was making preparation for dinner.  Carol's preparation started at four this morning when she put the roast in the slow cooker.   I conducted our sacrament services.  Carol  It continued after breakfast peeling potatoes and pushing them through the vegie chopper.

I put on a light coat and walked around our large garden and the yard.   There was a little frost on top of the north end of the garage.  There was no damage to any of the plants in the garden.
There was grayish cat hair on the patio this morning.   It was evidence of a cat fight with a few small spots of blood.

We had lunch of meat, peas, potatoes and some delicious gravy.

The following pictures are of Robert and Jeanne; Dalston and Hallie Gooch; Maison Wells and her baby daughter. Reese.   They came to put flowers on grave of their baby daughter Sierra who about five weeks old when she died.
This is cute Reese, who is a little over one year old.  She is such a doll.  The daughter of Maison, and Dalston Wells.  She is a little over a year old.

Hallie is setting up my smart phone for a timed shot.  She got herself and part of the family.
She did a little better this time.  She got their legs up to their knees.

Up to their waists this time.

She gave up.  I began taking pictures of couples.  This is Hallie and Jared Gooch
I took this while they were getting settled for the next photo.
A good picture of Hallie and Jared Gooch.

After I finished eating breakfast and the morning chores were over, I tuned into channel seven which is the education channel.  Most of the shows deal with cooking, but I watched three half hour shows that deal with furniture construction and remodeling houses.

I finished my reading of a chapter in the Book of Mormon.
We drove up to the Holden cemetery where our grand daughter was buried.  We put a chrysanthemum adjacent to the corner of headstone.  I secured it a pair wire hooks pressed into the soil hooking to the edge of the pot.
There is a beautiful yellow old fashion rose bush.
I washed a group of large PVC pieces which I am taking to Roper Lumber.  The large piece is six inches in diamenter the smaller ones have a diameter of four inches.

Shane wanted the tractor moved.  I showed him how to start it.  He managed to get it off the higher pad.  I noticed the right front tire was rubbing the front tractor frame.  The lug nuts had come loos and were about to fall off.    I got a stare lug wrench and the other person there tightened up the lugs.  The tractor run much better.  Shane spread the ashes around.  He parked the tractor at the south end of house three.

The Blue Lake pole beans are quit yellow.  I applied some fertilizer on the south side.
Last week I dug up the saffron bulbs.  I replanted them between the lawn and the chicken run.  The are close to the water.

As soon as breakfast was over, we picked flowers.  Carol picked the columbines and I picked irises.  We put them in a bucket of water and put them in the car.  We also put chrysanthemums in the car.  We were on the road a little after eight.  Our first stop was at the Provo Cemetery.
We put a bouquet of irises and columbine flowers in a buried vase.  The vase was hard to remove because it was stuck in the mud.
We then drove out to the Camp Williams cemetery where our son, Eric Johnson was buried.  It took us quite awhile before we found his headstone. Carol found it.  We put a bouquet of irises and columbine flowers on the left side and chrysanthemums on the right side.  Last night I made some hooks.  I pushed one end into the ground and the went over the edge of the can or pot.  I used three on each one.   The wind can't blow them over.
The patches of sod indicate that his grave has not been there long.
There were headstones all over.  The photo is and example of a few.   Eric's is on the far right with a flag and two vases of flowers.   We drove to Delta going south on the Redwood road, and then going to Eureka.  That was about twenty miles shorter than going to Nephi.
I have a niece and a sister buried there.  My niece on the left and my sister on the right.  I used one hook on each pot to hold the flowers
Then white chrysanthemums for my mother and father.
Last but not least, we put chrysanthemums on the edge of our son David, who lived for two days.  We were back home about 12:30.  We had lunch   After resting some I watered the baskets.   I then began watering the cucumber plants.  All three rows.

The wind was whipping the poly on the shed.  I used theme clamps to hold the poly to the pressed board roof.  I had one large clamp and whole bunch of smaller ones.  I put them on both ends and a couple on the front and a couple back.    I put a couple of long 2x4"s on the top.

Lunch on the Patio

Carol went to the dentist and while she was gone I cleaned part of the yard and I also cleaned the patio.  When she got back we took the garbage to the dumpster.
This part of the yard has been cultured with branches and sticks most of the winter.  Carol suggested many times that I should clean it up.  Shane had a fire south of house six.  I asked him if it would be okay if burnt the wood.  He gave me the okay.   I loaded up the cart and pulled it up to the fire and put it on the burning wood.  I picked up and armful of sticks the next time.  The cart was loaded with small stick the  next and final time.
Another request from Carol was to clean the patio.  There was a pair of saw horses that I made last year which I often used them on the patio and some time it took them to the garage.  They are now outside by the shed.  I removed all of the patio furniture.  During the fall and winter a lot of leaves and other thing that fell out of the trees accumulated on the patio.  I blew the patio clean with my blower.  I put the furniture on the patio.  Carol cleaned the class on the table.  She directed me while I moved the furniture around.

After lunch we drove to Fillmore to get Chrysanthemums.  We bought nine pots.  They are really pretty.  We bought some groceries also.
In full bloom are the
And also Apache Plume.
I grew Detriot red beet plugs.  Tuesday, we planted them in a wide bed.  I watered the with wand and water breaker.  Today I run water on the.  Theh look pretty good.
I did some weeding around the peonies.  Pictured is an annual weed.  It looks like morning glory.
There was a dead large stump.  I pounded it with the large sledge hammer and broke it loose.  I then dug out the weeds.
I removed all of the weeds from the irises.  They are looking good.
I also weed around the peonies.
One of the last things I did was to water everything that was recently planted.
I made these hooks for holding the tin can vases to the ground so the wind can't blow them over.

The three P's Plan, Prepare, and Plant

Breakfast and a little bit of news, then out to the garden.
We put six more geraniums in the kidney north of the house.
I stared tilling new areas for planting.  The tiller tines were wrapped up with strings, weeds, and other junk.  I used a saw to pull out the stuff.
Here it is all cleaned up.  I can dig a little deeper.
This is how the new spot looked yesterday.

This is how it looks before we did any planting.  I went up and back with the tiller numerous times with the tines going about and inch.   I raked of all the weeds and put them on the large compost pile north of the new beds.  Next, I made two planting rows with the tiller.  One on each side.

One the left side we planted Hales Best cantaloupe and on the right side we planted watermelons.
To help make a straight row with out following the string; I drew a line in the ground next to the string.  The string was removed and I followed the line with the tiller.
We planted three rows of cucumbers.  On the far right I made a double row where we planted two rows of sweet corn.
Pictures of Burpless cucumbers.  They were pretty wilted when we put them in the ground.  After watering they began to look better.
More cucumbers.  I hope to train them to follow a trellis.
I used a sprinkler where we planted the two sweet corn verities.
Carol was digging weed buy the west fence while I did the tilling.  She wanted me to finish digging the weeds.  I did that before supper.

Later this afternoon I built a pipe line to help this irrigating the lawn.  It ends at the step at the left and begins at the right under the Red Bud tree.
Another pipe will hook to the ell and go around the step to water the other side of the sidewalk.
A tee is every four feet.  The cap removed to allow the water run on the lawn.  When it is finished the cap is put back on.
