Lunch on the Patio

Carol went to the dentist and while she was gone I cleaned part of the yard and I also cleaned the patio.  When she got back we took the garbage to the dumpster.

This part of the yard has been cultured with branches and sticks most of the winter.  Carol suggested many times that I should clean it up.  Shane had a fire south of house six.  I asked him if it would be okay if burnt the wood.  He gave me the okay.   I loaded up the cart and pulled it up to the fire and put it on the burning wood.  I picked up and armful of sticks the next time.  The cart was loaded with small stick the  next and final time.

Another request from Carol was to clean the patio.  There was a pair of saw horses that I made last year which I often used them on the patio and some time it took them to the garage.  They are now outside by the shed.  I removed all of the patio furniture.  During the fall and winter a lot of leaves and other thing that fell out of the trees accumulated on the patio.  I blew the patio clean with my blower.  I put the furniture on the patio.  Carol cleaned the class on the table.  She directed me while I moved the furniture around.

After lunch we drove to Fillmore to get Chrysanthemums.  We bought nine pots.  They are really pretty.  We bought some groceries also.

I grew Detriot red beet plugs.  Tuesday, we planted them in a wide bed.  I watered the with wand and water breaker.  Today I run water on the.  Theh look pretty good.

I did some weeding around the peonies.  Pictured is an annual weed.  It looks like morning glory.

There was a dead large stump.  I pounded it with the large sledge hammer and broke it loose.  I then dug out the weeds.

I removed all of the weeds from the irises.  They are looking good. 

I also weed around the peonies. 

 One of the last things I did was to water everything that was recently planted.

I made these hooks for holding the tin can vases to the ground so the wind can't blow them over.

Patio is Much Improved.

I planned on building a small bench today using pin nails and glue.  I even dreamed about it.  I quickly changed my mind. Over the last six months I have been putting various pieces of lumber on the patio.  There were a lot of sixteen foot 2x4's and another bunch of four foot 2x4's and a few shorter ones.

Carol started this puzzle yesterday and finished it this morning.  She has finished a thousand piece jig saw puzzle in a day.

I caught, Shadow our cat, on a branch of the Red Bud tree.  I think he was waiting for a bird to land nearby.

The patio has been covered with wood all winter long.  I took the sixteen foot 2x4's to the shed.  I stacked them on the west side of the shed.

 I loaded the shorter pieces on the cart and put a piece of the snow fence on top of it.  I couldn't decide where to put these for some time.  I could put them by the shed and the other place would be north of our garden.  I finally decided to put them near the sweet potato raised bed.

I put the plywood down and then stacked the rest of the wood on top of it.  The four foot 2x4's are on the far side and the shorter pieces are in front.  They are handy to the garage where I can use the for building projects.

 I planted two different corn verities.  Early Sun Grow, an early verity, and Jubilee, a later verity.  One 1206 of each one.

The Red Beets that I planted early last week are beginning to germinate.

Such nice weather prompted me to let the two hens out where they may find some green stuff to eat.

In the afternoon I started the stool using glue and pin nails.  I used three eight foot weathered 1x2's.  The above photo shows how I glued and pinned them together.

This photo shows how the rails and legs were fastened together.

The rails were built with two 1x2's glued on top of each other.   Tomorrow I will built the seat.  But tomorrow may bring something else to the front.

As I have been looking at the stool, I think that it would be easier to build if I made the rails first and the put the on the legs.

Cleaning the Patio

I was at the Manti Utah temple all morning.  I got home a little before one this afternoon.  I went out to the nursery to see how things were.  I had a quick lunch.

Carol asked me a couple of days ago to clean the patio.  There were a lot of leaves and other kinds of debris.  I removed the ladder that has been laying there for several months.  I blue off the junk with a my blower and then with a broom I cleaned of the rest of the stuff that was sticking to patio.  I blew it off again.  The cushions have been in house three all winter.  I brought the back to the patio.  

The pea vines are doing well.  The pods are getting quite long and should start to fill next week.  I watered the garden and the grapes.  The are looking good.

The weeds in the south west garden are getting really big.  I wacked them all down with the weed eater,  Spray come next week.

The Patio is Finished

On the way home from the temple we stopped at the Hot Spot for ice cream cones.  The other times that we have stopped, I always ask for the usual.  Which is two ice cream cones.  This afternoon the saw us drive up.  The cones were ready before I got to the order window.  I paid them and was back to the car in less than two minutes.  That is the fastest service that  I have ever got and any food place.

The patio was finished by the time we got home.  They were spraying it with a chemical to prevent it from drying two fast and cracking.  It looks really good.  All that they have left is to remove the forms.

 I checked the gardens.  The watermelon hanging by a string is getting bigger every day.  The other side has some scratched because of leaves rubbing against it.

I was working in house one when I heard car doors slam and some talking.  I walked back to see who was there.  They were carring buckets and boxes.  I thought that it was a customer.  When they got closer it turned out to be Robert, Frank, and Gilbert.  They got a few things and then went back home.  They stayed about forty-five minutes.

Monday, And Moday All Day

We picked all the cucumber this morning.  One big bucket of Armenians and nearly a bucket full of the Burpless cucumbers.  Carol washed them.  Carol took some of them to her friends.  Her visiting teachers got some, and the rest of them ended up at the Post office.  They were all gone except one Armenian and an eggplant.

Todd Troseth rang the doorbell.  He is ready to start making the patio.  I started to move the patio furniture.  I moved them to the north side of the lawn as shown in the photo below.

This is where the furniture had been for nearly three months.  The grass is showing signs being shielded from the direct sun.

This lantana did not get enough water.  It was in a smaller pot and dried out rather quickly.  I pruned the dead branches and put it in a larger pot.

While the crew was to lunch, I finished the propagation of some ever baring strawberry plants.

Todd and his track hoe.  He is lowering the elevation some.  He will bring in road base.  The road base plus the concrete will be higher than the lawn, so the water will run off.

A service berry tree which has been slowly dying over the last four or five years.  Spencer gut the tree down leaving a four foot stump.  Todd then pulled it out with the track hoe.

It is now ready for rebar and then the concrete.

 We have a lot of large Roma type tomato plants.  They are producing well.  The photo illustrates it.

We needed a place to for the excavated soil. I had him remove the pea shrubs.

The soil was put west of the pea shrubs.  With the pea shrubs gone, he was able to turn around.

I had and appointment with Steve's tires to have our car serviced and tires rotated.  We took the car to Fillmore this afternoon.  Carol drove the car and I drove the truck.  We came home in the truck.  

Later, we went back to Fillmore for the car.  There was a wreck and a fire about a half mile from the Holden exit.  The south bound traffic was diverted to the east frontage road.  We took the west frontage road where I was able to get the following pictures.

While in Fillmore I got gasoline for the lawnmower and filled the truck with diesel fuel.  I removed the fuel tank cover and was face to face with a hornets nest.  I had a long stick  and from a distance removed it.  The hornets flew away and the nest fell to the ground where I stepped on it.  There was another small nest in the pickup.  I removed it with the same stick.

This swam of ants are in the chicken run.  They are swarming the remnants of pomegranates.
