CSA Bucket - Last One Next Week

It was a little cold this morning outside so I worked in the garage for awhile, while waiting for it to warm up some.  Last night I left the Viking stool to set in the vice while the glue on the new leg set up.

This morning I glued and inserted more wedges into the leg to hold it more securely.  I cut off more of the leg that was pruding above the seat.
I had a little bit of lacquer left which I painted the leg and then top of the stool.   I then took it out on the patio to dry.
I began work on the seat of another stool made out of red wood.  I glued all the pieces together for the seat.   I cut out the circle with my jigsaw.  It was pretty rough after I finished.  I carful trimmed the rough edges at the table saw.

Shane England, Duston, and two friends stopped by.  Shane was showing the two friends the operation.  I think that they will be working here.

Tonight, Shane brought his family to look at the greenhouse.  His wife and kids may also work here.

for the next hour and a half I picked tomatoes and peppers and eggplants, and pulled salad onions. beats, onions,  and carrots.   Above are the beats and salad onions.
and a fuzzy photo of the carrots.
I washed them.  I then took them into the kitchen where I washed them again and filled the CSA bucket.
When I went out to get the onions, there were three deer in the yard.  They jumped over the fence into Raymond Stephenson's yard.
The ate parts of a lot of green melons.
They nearly destroyed the whole melon patch.  I covered was not bothered with tree baskets.

Three Day Weekend

Saturday:
It is our temple night.  I did the morning chores.  The three woodworking shows that I usually watch were not on.  Instead they were having a celebration for fifty years of the show.  I worked in the yard and greenhouses most of the morning.
The peas that I planted some time ago and are really doing well.  I put these two welded wire cages so they would have something to climb.  It most likely will freeze before we can harvest some peas.
The deer have been eating our grape vines.   I think that this happened a couple of weeks ago, because they are growing new leaves.
I was setting on the driveway next to the garage when Cody Carter drove by on his horse.  The horse was quite troubled.  He got off and adjusted the saddle.  He didn't see me. He then mounted the horse and rode away.

We picked some tomatoes and cucumbers and took them to our new neighbor, Jeff Williams.  He built a garage and a home across the road and a little bit to the west.  We had a nice visit and had a tour of his garage.  He restores older cars.
Monday which is today:  I picked the cucumbers.  I didn't think that there would be very many, but I picked fourteen.  They are in the sink to be washed.
After washing I they are in the other sink draining.   I put them on a towel to the left of the sink.
I set up my wrapping jig which make wrapping pretty easy.   Shot cucumbers are laid Parallel to the cutting board.  More plastic wrap is pulled out for longer cucumber.  They are laid on the wrap at an angle.
One cucumber was so long that I cut it in half and wrapped each half separately.  I should have cut off the stem end, which would make it shorter.
A stack of wrapped cucumbers.
I forgot to give the Masner's the bucket of vegetables.  So it did this morning.  Cucumbers salad onions, red peppered, tomatoes, and some eggplants.
The full bucket above.  There are two containers of cherry tomatoes.

I got the shop vac out sucked up a lot of yellow jackets.
I had a little extra time tonight so I dug up all of these crabgrass.
The same place about fifteen minutes later. Crabgrass is one weed that his hard to kill.  Digging it up is easy,  but there are a lot of seeds left in the ground.
The Russian Sage is doing really well.  The one in this photo come up from a seed.
The one in this picture was planted many years ago and is doing extremely well.  I didn't get time to prune it.

Made Vegetable Bucket Delivery

I walked back and forth between our house and the greenhouses.  Our cat, Tiger, caught a mouse.  I thought that she had a bird.  She has caught birds before.  As I got closer I could tell that it was a mouse.  The next time I went by, she swallowed the mouse head first.
It took me a couple of hours to fill this bucket with vegetables.   Bottom to top:  Red beets. eggplants, leeks, salad onions, cherry tomatoes, and slicing tomatoes.  I was going to take it to the bank where she works.  The bank is open until five.  If I left home at 4:30, I would be there in plenty of time.  I left on time, but she wasn't there.  She went home a half hour early.  I drove to Kanosh where they live and made the delivery.

It was for Kim Christensen and her husband.  I was busy on a project in the garage that  I will describe more in detail a little later.
There is a lot of perennial salvia grow in the kidney.  It has be pretty, but is getting so big that it was covering the geraniums.  The salvia will grow back and bloom again in a couple of months.

Carol and I are the Grand Marshalls for the 24th July parade.  We wanted a picture to show the Manti Temple where Carol and I are ordnance workers on Tuesday morning and Saturday evening.

Irrigation

I turned down the water this morning at 6:50 this morning.  I blocked it at Raymond's corner.
Here is where my first screen is located.  I stops most of the junk that comes down the ditch.
I started on the back lawn first and got a good watering.  The water was running to the raspberry bushes.  I then put in a 90 degree elbow and turned the water toward our patio.
The pipes don't fit together so I just put them together.
I caught a lot of snails and put them in the pan and smashed them.  The chickens have been eating them.
The screen has stopped a lot of junk.  I can then throw it out.
A large electric conduit directs the water around the corner for part of the lawn which is a little higher.
Carol picked up about thirty snails and stuck them in a quart bottle.  She then stuck them in the garbage, bottle and all.
We had a social and dinners at the home of Clair Harmon.  There were a bunch of other people there.

I put together my first CSA bucket this afternoon.  I got a picture but it was pretty bad.  I didn't use it.
