Sunday 

We had a water turn this which started at seven.  The water didn't get at our ditch until 7:30.  I started watering on the east lawn and the west lawn.  Part of the morning I was watching water front, back, east and west.  It seems like I am constantly walking to all of the four areas.  This is the last irrigation for the summer.

It was quite light when we fed the cats.  There are seven kittens. 

 This insect was on the water pipes.  It was about 3/16's of an inch.   I think it is a weevil.  They have been in the house, in the garden, and in the yard.

The water has been running well and all of the sudden it slowed down and quit.  I drove up to the ditch.  The second screen was plugged and had stopped the water.  It was high enough to run into the our neighbor's pasture.

The high pipe in the south west corner was running over and the water was running in the hemp plants in the area.

I checked the ditch several times.  There was a dog under the pick-up parked there.  That was the only shade in that area.

Monday

I picked all of the large Burpless cucumbers.  Carol washed them and I took them to the post office.  They were all gone by this evening.

They are growing hemp in these large bags.

I added some wire for the grape plants.  I am training them to follow the wire.

I did some weeding in several areas of the garden.  I also pruned and tied up the tomato plants.  The bush bean plants are ready to transplant.  I transplanted one and covered it with a little shade.

I tried to water some of the things in the garden, but there was no water.  I assumed that they were watering the hemp plants.  This afternoon there was still no water.  I walked up to the well and it had been shut of at the well.  I got a hold of Shane.  He said that it would be alright to turn it back on.  I watered the suffering cucumber plants.

I sprayed the cabbage plants.

Irrigation #2

We were notified yesterday, Sunday, that we would have our water turn this morning at six.  It is getting light at six, so I asked Chuck, the water master,  if it would be alright to take the water at seven.   He approved.  I got the pipes lined out and it was about 6:45 when I took the water.

I started with the water on the east side of the house.  The pipe started at the apple tree and ended on the east side of Snail Hill.

This show the water entering the pipe at the main ditch.   There was a lot of water and it got pretty high in the ditch.  I took picture and then let the water run down the ditch to Dearden's.

I put a cap that had a two inch hole on the end of the pipe at Stephenson's. 

I took the cap off the pipe and the water run down to the grapes and asparagus.    After the water made it way to the end of the rows, I put the cap back on.

I put the gated pipe on which started water running down the east lawn.

We had a lot of irrigation water.  It ran off the front lawn, across our driveway, and even went past Raymond and Ann Stephenson's house.

I then started the water running on the back lawn.  I had to shut the water of to put the camp on the --end of the pipe.

I put together these two inch PVC pipes for watering part of the front lawn.  It worked perfectly.  I could have had the outlets further apart. 

I would got up the source of our water.  This is where the water would enter into the pipe that takes the water to our yard.  I used a metal broom rake to remove the floating leaves and small stems. remove the screen that catches the debris because it plugged. 

I asked Wade Lemon if he would move the pile of compost behind greenhouse three.  One of his his workers did it today.  The yellow object is the skid steer that he owns.

He has finish moving the pile of compost, and is smoothing the area.

The job is completed.

Our irrigation water had run down the barrow pit.  It was really muddy as he drove back and forth.  The pile of compost is in the back if the picture.

The compost is piled next to our garden where I can use a wheel barrow to move it around in the garden.

The water continues to come up throw this clean-out pipe.  It run in the Chapman's yard.  I called and she said that it would be okay.

The water run back into our yard and covered some of the hemp plants.  Shane wanted me to stop the water from running into the hemp plants.

Here is another photo from a different direction.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Carol went to the hospital to have some lab work done this morning.  She the got an appointment this afternoon at 3:30.  We checked about a quarter after and waited there for about and hour before we talked to the doctor.  The result of the examination was and EKG and an x-ray on her knees.

Day of Irrigation

Our water turn started a six this morning.   I was up early and showered.  I had a little time to read from the Book of Mormon.   I turned the water down our ditch.  It went pretty good.  I was able to rake out the leaves.

 I walked onto the back lawn and saw the deer.  I walked further back and got the above photo.  There were six deer.  Three jumped over the fence to the west and three went over the fence to the south.  They soon disappeared. 

There were times that I had water running on the east, south, and west lawns all at the same time.  I would walk from place to place moving pipes.   I did this from six this morning until one this afternoon.  I had a short break for breakfast which Carol prepared.

I turned the water down to Raymond at one.   Later we went to Fillmore to get a hanging basket and some geraniums.  Fillmore IFA didn't have what we wanted.

 When we got back, I put all the pipes away.  I store them on the far edge of each lawn.  Above is the storage on the west lawn.

I have noticed that something has been eating some of the leaves of red beets.  I was watering the raised beds and one of the hens jumped up on it and began eating.

The hen on the right is the guiltily one.

Day of Irrigation

It is our turn for irrigation water.  We were to get it at seven this morning.  I had lot pipe out from last night and the shovels and rakes in the truck.  I drove up to the head of the ditch and our water was there.  I put in the gate to stop the water from running west and turned it in our direction.

I didn't get any photos until a little latter in the morning.  

About three feet west of house six this evening primrose is in full bloom.  It is one tough plant.  It has been walked on abused for years.  The bloom doesn't last long and wouldn't be noticed.   There are a bunch of irrigation pictures.   They are not in any particular sequence. 

This one if felt very interesting.  It is a sewer pipe with holes on both sides.  The water came from the bottom and went up a slight incline.   The water came out the holes on either side.

This comes brings water from the main pipe down the east side of the house.  It hooks to the sewer pipe above.

This picture shows the water coming from the main ditch which start at the base of the at the end.

This pipe brings water from the main pipe and ends by the raspberry plants.

This is on the north side of the house. With different pipe lengths and 45 and 90 degree ells. I can take the water at different places on the lawn.   The pipes crossed the side walk and delivered the water east of the sidewalk.

The vegetable plants are doing well and I hope to plant them in the garden by next week.

I finished my turn and turned the water down to the Stephenson's next door.  The water was running muddy and by the time I got my smart phone to snap a picture it was running clear.

Diana  and her friend stopped by for a visit a little after lunch.  Robert, Frank Williams and Diana helped with the Farmer's Market and other vendors three or four years ago.  I haven't seen Diana since then.

Lisa and Emi came this afternoon.  Lisa brought us some groceries and other things.   She also brought a Mother's day present for Carol.  She took photos that we have been saving for years with her.  She also took those belonging to April and Melissa.

Irrigation

It was 8:45 this morning when I woke up.  After my shower, I  read another chapter from the Book of Mormon.  By then it was getting light.  I drove up to the ditch and took our water turn.  It was six a.m.  There was a good stream of water.  I started on the back lawn.

I started some water on the north garden.  I checked the row of new corn and found the these new shoots of corn had been eaten by deer.

I inserted this large electic pipe into the water pipe which sent the water uphill around the corner.

This piper sent the water uphill a  little and in a different direction.

I finished irrigation a little after two.  I then started get the bucket of veggies ready for Kim.  All of the paved streets in Holden are being chipped.  There is a lot of chips on our driveway.  I removed them with a blower that didn't work very well, then a big push broom which worked a little better.  A flat nose shovel was the best tool.  We received a call from Dearden's reporting that our car was ready.  They have had it all day.  We drove the truck over and Carol brought the car back.

Irrigation Yesterday & Today

9 July Tuesday 

Up early this morning and off to the Manti Utah Temple.  A good day at the temple and after lunch we came home.

Water Turn in the morning.  I laid out the first pipe that is in the backyard against the trees on the south side.  I put a cap on the pipe that goes into Raymond's yard.  When the water is turned down in the morning, it will come right into the back lawn.

I have some melon plants that needed to be put out in the garden.  I tilled down the bottom of last year's row and then cleaned it out with a hoe.  Ready for tomorrow.

I got the gate that turns the water in our direction and made some adjustments to in an attempt to get all the water.  I pulled out all of the old staples and trimmed off a little more than an inch from the bottom.  

On the back cut to short pieces from a garden hose that I don't use any more.  I drilled holes the hose with a forstner bit.  Then I drove screws through the holes into the gate,  to hold the hose in place.

Carol waters part of the hill on the east side of the house.  We collected over thirty snails.

Doctor Gross expressed a desire to get a CSA bucket of vegetables.  Fawn Hunter, his nurse will deliver it at work.   She goes to work at 7:45 in the morning.  It was late and I had to get it ready tonight.  I finished and it was after dark.  The above photo shows some of the contents of the bucket.  This is a face report.  The  egg plants (black, purple, and white), parsley, onions. cucumbers, leeks,  red beets, tomatoes, (yellow lemon, gladiator, and big beef), cherry tomatoes (cherry banana, Juliet, black cherry, and purple cherry).

I found this yellow jacket nest in the truck.  I grabbed it with a plastic shopping bag.

10 July 2019 Wednesday

I thought I would get the water pretty early.  I drove to the head of the ditch, but the water wasn't there.  I drove home and then went back.  No water.  I then drove to the water master's home.  His truck was gone. I then went home.  I again went to the head of the ditch.  There water was there.  I put the gate in and kept the ditch clean.

We planted more sweet corn.  The seed, peaches and cream, is almost gone.  I need new seed for next year.

I put out the melon plants, but there was not enough room in the row for all of the plants.  The was easy to start and I made another row.    I laid out all of the plants.  Then with the shovel I made holes in both rows.  One for each plant.

I started water running down the rows.

The back lawn is pretty well watered.  I then laid the pipe out for the east lawn.  It is also well watered.

This is how I joined pipes of two different sizes together.  Parts of a towel is wrapped around the smaller pipe and tied on with twine.

We drove to Fillmore for groceries and gas.
