The Day After Market

The market yesterday was a failure.  Yesterday I prepared everything.  No photos.  I put up two white banquet tables, laid out the vegetable in an attractive display.
I pulled the carrots from the gartden and washed them with the hose.
I cut off the tops and cleaned them some more.  I took them into the house and cleaned again and cut off the remaining tops.  I but them into four different quart zip bags.
I filled Kim's bucket.
I did a lot of work in house six.  One tomato vine didn't have and any fruit except at the very top and they were so small, I cut the vine down and removed the tomato clips.  I pruned off a lot of branches and leaves.
I put the tables and chairs away left from the farmer's market yesterday.
I have been using the shop vacuum to catch the yellow jackets.  It is not long enough to reach all of the nesting areas.  I made an extension using 3/4 inch PVC.  I worked really well.

Farmer's Market This Afternoon

Morning chores are over.  Yesterday, I made a sawhorse with recycled  wood.  This morning I took sort of a sawhorse and used it to build another one.
I made the I beam which I did much faster than yesterday.  I then cut the four legs to length which were  31 1/2 inches.  Next I made a cardboard patron showing the location of the three holes.  I punched a hole with a paper punch for the screw holes. That saved a lot of time.  The photo above shows the finished horse.
I pulled and cleaned fifteen red beats.
I picked tomatoes, eggplants, and salad onions.  I picked cucumbers and wrapped them yesterday and picked a few more today.
The two above pictures show the preparations than I made.
I was vacuuming wasps and when I came back Tiger our cat, found a resting place where I was going to place the cucumbers.

The farmer's market at the farm was markedly a non-success.  Two groups came at the same time and spent a little over five dollars each.

Twice as Good as Last Week

Frank, Dianne and Joe came to pick produce.  I got so busy that I did not get a picture.  We picked eggplants, cucumbers, and tomatoes.  They left about three and I made preparations for the Market in Fillmore.  I was going to start at five.  I washed the tomatoes and cucumbers, graded them and put them in totes.  I made price signs.  I loaded up, drove to Fillmore, set up and waited for customers.   None came.  Finally a car stopped. I knew who they were.  They had bought some things at Duanes and other things came from their garden.  A little later another customer came and spent $6.50 which was twice as much as last week.
This is what I saw while picking tomatoes and cucumber.
It is not as clear looking at it from the other side
The Garden Spider trapped a grasshopper in its web.  All that is left is its leg which is one the left side of the circle.
This is what's left of the cucumber plants.  I will find a place to plant them.
Both pictures one above and one below are the new cucumber transplanted to the bow.

Preparing for Market

I woke up three and couldn't get back to sleep.  I got up at five and read from the Book of Mormon.  I did weeds and pruning in house one.  Back to the house for the news and breakfast.  I worked some more at the nursery and a little after nine we drove to Fillmore for groceries and a few things from Ropers and to get a license to sell produce in Fillmore.  I stopped at the City building and the person who issues the license wasn't there.  She would call me.  She didn't call until four this afternoon.  I will get the license tomorrow.
I transplanted five of Alisha's golden currents.  I set them in the tote to soak up the water.
I found Tiger our cat, resting in a cool place on such a hot day.
A little later when I came back she had changed positions.
After lunch Carol gave me a couple of jobs.  I put the hens and chicks in the large rock that I prepared yesterday.
The darcenia was leaning quite a bit to the west.  I added soil to the west side of the pot and put a block under the pot.
The front storm door would not latch.  I put shim between the door and the latch.  now it works.
I made a couple of signs for tomorrow.   The sign board hasn't been used for several years and there was two nests of wasps.  The smaller one is above and the larger is below.
I used plastic two shopping bags and caught both wasp's nest.

Partners Were All Here

I began the day at six in house one pruning all of the tomato branches while it was relatively cool.  I started on the west side and went up and down the isles.  Some plants had three foot long branches.  I put on a pair of cotton gloves which kept my hands relatively clean from the tomato stains.

Then I began tying the leading vine to the twine.  Doing the I found a lot of branches that I had missed.  I stopped for the news and breakfast.  I picked a few raspberries for breakfast.  The ground everywhere was wet from the good rains from yesterday.  I went back to work in house one.

Robert and Frank and Frank's daughter and grandson came with them.  They brought the pump and sprayer to paint the poly on house six and house two.  We went to Fillmore for a few groceries.  Dianne was here when we got back.  They picked the produce for the farmer's market in Monroe, Utah.

Robert and I did some transplanting of the rooted tomato plants.

We have one sick cat and one sick kitten.
