Shelling Dry Corn Cobs

 After breakfast I picked pepper and tomatoes.

I had some corn on the cob that was to ripe.  I picked them and they have been drying in my bedroom.  Yesterday I finished the grapes.  This morning Shelled the corn.  Some time in the future I want to make some corn meal.  

I took the peppers, a cucumber, and a zucchini to the post office.  I went to the post office expecting to bring back an empty tote,  The bell peppers and the zucchini, and the cucumber was gone.  There rest were still there.  I brought them home and put them in the fridge.  I'll take them back to the post office in the morning.

These PVC pipes are by the grape vines.  Shane was taking the garden hose.  It got caught so he pulled  harder and broke the stem.  He asked me for some help.  It took us about an hour to fix it.  We found some parts in house six.

Yesterday, I glued two particle boards together.  Late this morning, I removed the cement blocks.  After lunch, I marked it for the screws.  I used a half inch spade bit and drilled holes holes about one half inch deep.  I used a quarter inch bit and drilled hole the rest of the way through the hole in the table top.  I put it back together.  Five of  the six holes fit perfectly.  I re-drilled the hole in the other one.

There was something wrong.  I pushed the saw all the way to the back and it was not behind the fence.  I thought on that for quite a while.  I took off the table top and found that I had put the screws in wrong hole.  I moved the table top forward to the next set of holes.  I attached it to the base.  It worked.  It needed a piece behind the fence.  I cut two pieces of particle seven inches wide and four feet long.  I glued them together.  I attached the fence to the particle board with three screws.  It worked.  I was able to cut the wood.  

There is a yellow dahlia laying down.  I drove a stake into the ground and tied the stem to the stake.  It makes it look lot better.

Peppers

 7 October Wednesday 

We are taking our large female kitten to the vet have it spade.  It was still dark when it came to the back door to eat.  I picked it up and put in the cage.  Our appointment is at 10:30 this morning in Fillmore.  I signed the papers and went to the bank to make a deposit.  I came home.

I picked some zucchinis and took them to the post office.

I finished the redwood stool.  Well, almost finished.  The seat is not attached to the legs.  It the photo it is just sitting there.

This afternoon I mowed the lawn.  

The grass was quite tall and I dumped three times.

I got this photo of the watermelons.  I picked one ripe one a couple of days ago.  It will probably take two more weeks for these to get ripe.

Ann Stephenson brought the cat back from the vet.  We put him in the laundry room.  This evening we let it out of the cage.  It stayed in the laundry room all night.\

8 October Thursday

This morning we put him on the back porch and put out some food.  She began to eat.

I picked beans, zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers, Anaheim peppers, and jalapeno peppers.  I took them to the post office.  They were all gone this eveningl

I worked different times during the day and removed the stems from the grapes.  I finished up this afternoon.

The weight of the blooms of some of Carols dahlias caused the to lay on the ground.  I drove in several stakes and tied them up.

The first was on the south end and the other one was on the north end.  There is one more to fix.  That will be tomorrow.

The deer ate part of the watermelon several months ago.  I picked it and cut it in half and feed it to the chickens.

I got a couple of photos of the cats.  This is one-eye.  He is resting in a large nursery can and I caught he in a yuan.  

Shadow was asleep curled in this nursery can.

I resumed work on the table of my radaial arm saw.  

There were some pieces left over from the stool that I made. I glued them together.  I don't know what I will do with them, but now they are all in one piece.  

I glued the two pieces of MBS boards together.  I spread glue on the bottom one and put the other piece on top.  I clamped the two corners to hold it from moving.  I then pinned it.  After that, I put three cement blocks on top and heavy iron things to on top of the blocks.  I hope to finish it tomorrow.

I picked tomatoes and found one that had been tasted by a bird.  I think that the bird rested on the pecked it seven or eight times.

Pruning the Lindon Tree

I picked some cucumbers and put them with the ones I picked yesterday and took them to the post office.  I watered the garden.   They were all gone this evening except two.  I cut them in half and fed them to the chickens.     

We have a Lindon tree on the north side of the house.  The ends of the branches are hanging down in.  I have to move them to the side when I am mowing the lawn.  I took out a couple of extension cards, my chain saw, and a ladder.  I pruned every branch that would be in my way.  I loaded all of them into our truck.

I took all of raisons that still attached to the stem.  I put it on the kitchen table where I started remove small stem.  I worked on them for about two hours and could watch TV.

Cleaning & Pruning

Carol had several little jobs for me after breakfast.  First, I watered the house plants.  We do that every Monday morning.  The first job was to clean the fridge.  I removed one case of bottles water and set it on the car.  And all of the bottles of water  that were loose and put them on the the workbench.  Ann, our neighbor to the west, put a large pot of tomato sauce.  The fridge was pretty dirty.  I don't think it has been cleaned since we got it.  Robert gave it to us when he moved.  I washed the shelf that I couldn't remove and the bottom, sides, and the door with soap and water.

I took out two of shelves and washed them on the back lawn.  I sprayed them with the hose and washed them a tote of soapy water.  They were really dirty which took a lot of scrubbing to get them clean.  I rinsed the with the hose.  I took the smaller one into the house and washed it in the sink.

I examined this Crimson  Sweet watermelon almost every day for the last month to see if it were ripe.  There is a tendril  on both sides of the stem.  If they are dry it means that the watermelon is ripe.   

I cut it in the early afternoon.  Surprise!  It was ripe and really sweet.

I picked the Blue Lake pole beans.  Here is another surprise.  The above photo shows beans hang hanging all over.  I picked up and back on both sides of the tunnel.  I then picked on the outsides up and back.  The double checking I found more beans.

There are three places in the garden where I am growing Blue Lake bush beans.    I coverer them up every night to protect them from the deer that are in the garden every night.   

The container on the left are from the bush beans and the bucket on the right, nearly half full are from the tunnel trellis.  We gave them to Ann Stephenson.

I picked a lot of zucchini and a few cucumbers.  After I washed them I took them to the post office.  I took the picture at noon and all that was left was  a couple of cucumbers and a couple of zucchini.

In the early afternoon we drove to Fillmore where we bought some groceries.  We were gone for less than an hour.

We got a letter from the town board instructing us to remove tree branches that were close to the power cable.  The large ash tree and the lilac tree had branches that needed to be cut off. I leaned the step ladder against the tree and climb close to the top with my electric chain saw.  I was able to cut off three limbs off the ash tree and put them in the back of the truck.  

Shane England paid the rent and he helped me put my radial arm saw on top of the saw pedestal. 

It took two ladders to cut off the branches on the lilac.  I used the stepladder for a lower dead branch.  And the extension ladder to cut of the branch that was in the way of the power line.  I went up and down the ladder several time before I got the saw up there and then up and down several times pull down the branch that was caught by the power wire.  The cable wire follows the power wire.

General Conference

Carol started the roast about four this morning.  It would be finished a little after twelve.   I pulled some carrots and wrapped some potatoes in foil.   Carol fixed a good Sunday Dinner. 

We watched four hours of conference yesterday and today.  We also watch different shows on TV about church activities around the world.

Yesterday, I worked some in the garage building a stool made out of redwood.  It would be quite light.

A comment about conference:  All four sessions were excellent and inspiring.  If I had to rank the speakers by the quality of the talks.  I couldn't do it.  Some talks had the same subject but delivered differently.

Radial Arm Saw

 I uncovered the bean plants.  There had been a lot of deer there during the night.  Fresh track all over the garden.  

There was an other half of the Topaz melon in the fridge.  I cut the rest of it and put in back in the fridge.

I put the radial arm saw table up side down and replaced one caster and put the other one in.

We went to the town hall where we got a shot for the flu.   We get one every year.  

I thought that there might be a way to raise the saw up high enough to put on top of the table.  I was able to put three brick under it.

Then I thought I could put four cement blocks under it.  I gave up on that idea pretty quick.

Drive to Orem

 We had quite a time with Shadow, our neutered cat, which happened yesterday.  He was behind the dryer.  I pulled the dryer out a little and Carol teased Shadow out with a small old frying pan  with some soft and dry cat food.  She moved the food closer to the center of the laundry room.  She was able to pick him up and carry him outside.  I took his food out.  He began to eat and I had to keep the other cats away from the soft cat food.  

We had breakfast, that Carol had breakfast.  I was fasting for a cholesterol test at 11:30.  I didn't need one.  The doctor asked a few questions, listened to my heart, lungs, and stomach and declare that I was in pretty good shape.  My blood pressure was 120 over 70.

We arranged to meet Carol at pioneer park in Provo.  We were there before Lisa.  I called her and she was at the InanOut hamburger.  She soon came with the big hamburger sandwiches.  When finished she took this selfie.

We, Carol and I, stopped at the IFA store where I got a refund on the overalls that we bought about a month ago. 

We went to Sam's Club and got a bunch of supplies.  We were next in line when I took this picture.

We then went to home depot where I got an AMB board and a caster.  It wasn't what I wanted but I got it anyway.

We then went straight home.

Shadow and the other cats were waiting to eat.  Shadow seems to be feeling much better.
