Walking

 It was quite a cold morning. No frost.  We took the garbage to the dump.   The have the big dumpster for furniture, mattresses and other big items.  There are smaller ones for smaller items.   One of them had half of an aluminum ladder.  This evening I drove our truck to the dumpster to see if the ladder was still.  It was gone.  

I began working on the spice rack.  One of the shelves was an inch higher on one side.  I cut through it and then pulled the two pieces off.  I had pinned them, I cut through the pins.   I put in two more shelves.

Shane and his crew were pulling out the greenhouse poly and then folding it up.  I helped then do that.  Where two large pieces that came off house five then there was on large piece that came off house six.

They want to hang the their hemp plants in the shade.  The best shade is on our back lawn.  Shane wanted to put in some t-post to hold up the wire or twine.  I suggested that they use some sixteen foot pipes.  I have enough of the to be able hold all their hemp.

I had ample opportunity to take pictures, but forgot.

Clean-up & Stopping the Leaks.

I started working in the garden.  I removed and stacked the tomato cages.  Next I pulled all of the conduit and the pipes which held the cages upright.  Then the tomato plants were dug up and hauled to the compost areas.

 All the pots full of potting soil are lined up against the left side of house six.  One of Shane's daughters is sweeping the floor.  They are getting ready to put the hemp plants in the pots.  They then will be down the center between the posts.

I covered the carrots with the weed barrier to prevent the carrots from being damaged by the frost.  I am going to put some poly on top of it so I can easily clear of any snow this winter.

The pots of lantana that were on the front porch are setting by the compost pile.

They transplanted all of the hemp plants into the pots.  The photo is taken from the east end looking west.

I had some bell  pepper soup at the temples Saturday evening.  I found a recipe on You Tube which shows a fast easy way to make the soup.  The soup at the temple had barley cornels instead of rice.

There was a conduit pipe driven into the ground.  I prepared a piece of plywood with a 5/8 inch hole in the center.  I put it over the conduit for a base to keep the baskets off the ground.

I put the lantana on the sweet potato bed and started to remove the soil.

I cut down all of the old corn stalks and wrapped them with double piece of twine.  I pulled it tight and carried it to a pile of corn stalks and old tomato plants.

The old corn stalks are gone.  The newer ones are for and other day.  I planted Serendipity corn seed, but to late and did not reach maturity.  

We drove to Fillmore for groceries and gasoline for the car.  I also got parts to fix the leaking faucets in the bathroom tub between the two bedrooms.  I had to go under the house to shut off the water.  I turned it on and off numerous times before I got them fixed.

I removed the faucets and replaced the valve seats and the washer.  It took a while but if got them fixed.  The towel in the bottom of tub is to keep screws from falling into the train.

I did the same in the bathroom next to the big bedroom.  I tried many time to get the valve seat into the cold water side. I used a flashlight to help get it lined up.  I discovered that I was trying to get it in backwards.  When I turned it around it screwed in easlie.  I turned the water on and it started to run fast.  I hadn't shut off the valves.  I shut them off and decided it was the cold water side that was leaking a little.  I shut off the water under the house and took off the valve and mad a few adjustment. I turned the water back on and there were no leaks.

Hemp Plants are Here

I thought that I was going to my cardiologist at eleven this morning.  I was fasting.  When I checked my email about nine. and a message said that it was Thursday, October 3rd.  Well I had some breakfast.

There were six deer in the yard this morning.  Later I saw them in our garden where the pole beans are located.  All six of them left and were running up the road towards main street.

I picked the cucumbers.  There were not very many.  The smallest harvest this season.  I made the prepared the CSA bucket.

I dug up one sweet potato plant and was pleasantly surprise.  Even though they struggled in early spring and the deer at off most of the leaves this fall.  This one had a nice group of sweet potatoes.  

 I sprayed off most of the dirt out side and washed them in the sink.  They are on a dinner plate in the sink.

I filled the bucket with cucumbers, carrots, red beets, peppers, and tomatoes.   We then drove to Fillmore where I delivered them to Kim Christenson at State Bank.  We then got a few things at the market.  After that we drove to Kanosh to see the apartment and house that Thayne Christenson is building.  We never found it.  We then came home.  We filled the car with gas on the way.

We need a place for our dracaenas and, pomegranate shrubs.  I cleaned the southeast corner of house six.  I cut away a piece of weed barrier.  I have a large garbage can and a large box that I am using for garbage.   I swept up the dirt.  Some I put out side and other I put between the cucumber plants.

I got the blower and an extension cord to have it ready for in the morning when the wind would becoming from the west.  I blew some anyway and a breeze was coming in the east door.

I was about five when Shane and Duston came in with the hemp plants.  It was interesting that the grower used Dixie cups for some of the plants.  The hemp plants have a pink glow because of the LED lights.

Full Speed fo Hemp

We were home from the temple after dark Saturday night.  To late for any pictures,  But there was a photo on Face Book.  Sunday morning I got a photo.

Things are moving fast.  They removed all of the raised bed and started fill the root control bags.  There is one row against the west wall and the next row is started.

I picked every tomato that starting to turn red or in the case of Yellow Lemon.  I got a couple of buckets.  I also picked a bucket of cucumbers.  I wanted a photo. but forgot.

I was cold last night and frost on the lawn.  The summer squash was frozen as well as tomatoes.

This morning Shane and Duston were busy filling more bags.   They also put up the LED lights which will shine on each row.

I helped some by filling bags with the old potting soil west of house six.

This evening Adam joined them filling more bags.

Another Meeting

I picked a bucket of cucumbers.  I didn't think that there would be many.  I am planning on another meeting concerning hemp.  But I don't know when.  I was in the greenhouses working and the phone rang.  It was Adam and they would be here about nine.  It was about 9:15 before they got here.  We met in the front room.  Carol didn't want to be in the meeting.  We then went out to the greenhouses to go to see what needed to be done to get the greenhouses ready.

They will pay all of the utilities,  gas and electricity.   There would be three crops in house six. The first would be started in a couple of weeks.   The first crop would be harvested and sold in January.  There would be a crop every three months.  It was my understanding that I would be paid $15,000 every three months.  It seems to be to good to be true.  We will see.

I put another coat of varnish on the Viking stool.  Later in the morning after our meeting I decided to put a new leg in the stool.  I used an electric drill to drill out the old leg.

I looked all around for an old piece of  wood long and thick enough to make a new leg.  I couldn't find one.  I finally found a 3x3x6 foot board.

I trimmed each side until I got it to fit in the lathe.  

It didn't take me long to get it round.

I made the tenon which will fit the socket.  

I got it fixed to fit.  Next is to glue it into place.

 I glued it into place. I had to use a couple of small wedges so it would not move while the glue set.

It is glued and setting much better.  I need to add more glue and a couple of small wedges.  I will glue the new wedge in, tomorrow.

Making New Beds

This morning I started working in house two.  The planting beds or raised beds on the west side of house two are oriented in a north south direction.  The beds on the east side are positioned in west east direction.  I am changing all of them so they will be north and west.

I am extending the bed.  I put down one board and will attach to the one to the north.  The table blocks and other stuff needs to be moved.  

I moved this desert cactus.  I broke off some large pups and then cut off the top.  You see the cut edge on the right.

There a large Aloe Vera type looking plant that has been there for years.  I pulled it up and pulled off a small pup and planted it in the black nursery pot.

In the wheelbarrow is large cactus that I haven't watered for a long time.  On the right is the rest of the cactus.

I dumped the one Alloe Vera plant under the Elderberry tree by the far north garden.

Deer tracks in house six.  It looks like they came in, and then turned around and left.  No observable damage.   I think that there were two.  One smaller than the other one.

I dumped a lot of pots.   The soil will be put in the raised beds.

Adam Remkes stopped by for a visit.  He asked if I were interested in renting our greenhouses to grow hemp.  He has a Friend that is interested.

I thought that a nice stain would look good on the Viking stool.  It is way to dark.  After stain had dried  I sanded it completely.  It took quite  a while.

Here is completely sanded I have started to put a coat of Urethane.

Here the top is finished.   The wedges are easily to see.   Tomorrow I think that I will sand it and put on more coats.  Also, I will do the legs.
