Bench is Over Half Finished

Breakfast and new as usual.

Yesterday, I took some of the things our of house four.  I wanted to take them to the shed, but it was to muddy.   I took them to the shed the first thing this morning because the mud was frozen.  There is a rope, chicken waterer, some large PVC caps, then a lot of lead drippers.  There was a couple of other things.

A little after breakfast, Shane called me and needed to shut off the water.  A water pipe broke and was running water all over.  The photo is taken later in the day shows where the pipe broke. They were in the process of fixing it.

Dusting is putting in  a union and several couplers.  They then took much of the injector and pipes apart to fix the leaks.

The photo above shows the legs of the new bench that I am building.  I made them a little long.  One is quite short.  I figured that it would the correct length.  

Carol had an appointment with her ophthalmologist at 11:20 this morning.   I stopped work on the bench and we drove to Fillmore.  While Carol was waiting, I went to Zions Bank where a deposited some money.  I also bought some glue at Ropers.   We came home and sloppy Joes made out of meat loaf.

I fasted a square piece of 1/2 plywood to the top of each leg.  I then fasted the plywood to the table base.  Then I put the door on top of that as pictured in the photo above.  It appears from the photo that the bottom of the legs are facing inward.  The table was to tall.  I took the legs of the table and cut them to the same length of the short leg.  

I fastened the legs back of with plywood fasten to the legs and table frame/  It is illustrated in the above photo.  The table was about 1/16 inch to tall.

I removed the legs again and cut off a little more than 1/16.   I removed the legs only.  The plywood remained attached to the frame.

I put it all back together.  It was just right.  The miter slider slid just barely above the bench top.  As before it would it the bench top and stop.

Here is the nearly finished bench.  Tomorrow, I am going to build two shelves for tool storage.  The sawhorses will be kept outside on the patio for awhile.

Ophthalmologist & Shed

I was up early, showered and put on my best none-Sunday clothes.  Carol had her appointment this morning with her Ophthalmologist.  It was at nine.  We were there five minuets early and the office was closed.  We waited in the bitter cold by the door for awhile.  There were people inside moving around.  Finally, they unlocked the door and we went in.  The receptionist forgot to post Carol's appointment last week, therefore the weren't expecting us.  But, we didn't have a long wait.  The condition of her eye has improved.  She has another appointment 8 January 2020.

There is a sign on the door that says, "closed".  In the top right hand corner, is a lighted sign that says "open".   There was a man waiting for them to open.  We did a little shopping and then came home.  It was about 11:30 when we got home.  It was too late to work on the shed.  I read the weekly paper that we get each Wednesday.  I ate the rest of the soup Carol made last week.

Yesterday, I made a rafter for the shed, I measured wrong and cut it to short.   I started a new one and measured several times.  I had to cut a notch for the headers.  I used my miter saw to cut the notch. I drew a line let me know the depth of the notch.  I had notches on both ends.  They looked pretty ugly

I used a PVC pipe to act as a roller.  I can easily move the 2x4 back and forth remove the waste from the notch.  

I also cut the rafter tails an angle slightly larger than a right angle with the miter saw.  If I cut it a little long, can trim a little off.

I put one end in the space flat.  Then turn it on its edge.  It was too tight.  I used a pipe wrench and was able to get it into place.  With a small sledge hammer, I tapped it to the west to have it directly over the west edge of the corner post.  

The plywood panel was cut to short on one corner.  I carried to the patio where I cut off a little more.

I carried it back to the shed.  I then went back to the house for a couple more tools.  This next step would be easy, if I had another person to help me.  I couldn't hold it in place and at the same time drive in the screws.  I clamped it to the cost and gradually plumbed it.  Finally, drove in some screws.

The base moved some.   I cut a five foot piece of rebar in half.  I could find my metal chop saw, so I used a hack saw.  With the dull blade it took awhile to cut it in half.  I drilled a hole near inch end and hammered them into the ground.  The treated wood footing are held in place.

I made a short wall with two studs on the patio.   I attached the two studs with screws through pre drilled holes

A narrow piece plywood is screwed to the studs.  I carried the wall to the shed and put it into place.  I removed the plywood and plumbed the studs.  I screwed the sole plate into another plate below it.

I put screw through the plywood panels into the studs and the rafter.  The finished section from the inside.

 The photo shows the completed wall from the inside.  I hope to finish the rest of the west wall tomorrow.

Carol/Ophthalmologist/Last Mowing

The space where my tooth was is healing nicely now.

Sunday morning before the bedroom light was on, Carol bent over to pick up her house coat; her eye hit one of the vacuum attachment head on, or I should say, eye on.

We went toe the KEENEYE Family Vision.  the  ophthalmologist examined her eye and gave her a prescription for another eye drop.  We got some groceries and then went back to the Service drug where her prescription was filled.  It took the technician nearly forty-five minutes to get carols medical history and information of how she injured herself.

I left and went to Roper's to get a furnace filter.  The above filter is the old one and it is pretty dirty.  We always get a lot dust in the house.

The above phot shows the date of the old one.  the size is 16x25x2 inches.  It didn't take me long to install the new one.

Years ago I bought a stack of lights and shelves.  It was designed to start plants inside the house.  I took it apart today.  There were a lot of short 2x4's, one nice piece of 5/8 inch plywood, and three small sheets of MBX.   I put the sheets in the garage to keep them out of the weather.

One of the boards had several vacant Mud Dobber Wasps' nest.

All of the material was connected together with screws. I removed all of the screws.  Some of the boards were dusty and dirty.  I used a my drill to remove all the screws which I put in a Dream Whip container.

I mowed the lawn.   I don't think I have mowed the lawn at such a late date in the year.   There was not grass to cut, but I sucked up all of the leaves.  I had to dump four times.

When I finished, I drove the lawnmower to the shed.  It was a good fit.  The weather today was pretty good.

While in Fillmore I bought five sweet potatoes.  The top two are for baking and the bottom three are for propagation.   They will be put in a bottle tomorrow.
