Fixing the Shed

This is one of the mornings that I did something which was the furthest thing from my mind.  I will explain that later.  I did several things where I for got to take some pictures.

I had the fan in the front room window all night.  When I got up the thermostat said 64.  I turned on the heat.  It was 66 degrees when I took the picture.

I ate breakfast which is a bowel of old fashion oats with raisons, and an open face piece of toast smoothened with catchup and a fried egg .

A friend, yesterday, loaded a bunch of pallets on my truck.  This morning I stopped at the post office and got the dump key.  I drove to the dump and backed into the area where construction waste is dumped.  Was able to back into the area and pull off the wood and pallets.  There was a piece of two inch PVC pipe that I could use.  All of the material is in a big hole.  The pipe was in an area where I couldn't reach and one end was buried deep in the rubble and I don't think I could have pulled it out.

I came home and did a few things in the garden.  We needed a few things in Fillmore.  We walked into the Fillmore Market with face masks on.  There were a few people with masks, but most were unmasked.  A couple of days ago I got a courtesy phone call saying that thee was a prescription for me to get.   We stopped at the drug store to get it, but they wouldn't give it to until the thirty pills I got last week.
After lunch dug up the rest of the wild lettuce that was between the shed and the grape vines.
I put the sprinkler in the south end of the raspberry plants and ran water for one hour.  The i moved it to the north end for another hour, but I forgot to turn it off so it ran longer than an hour.

for the rest of the day I worked on the shed.  The wind whipped the poly on the shed.  I fixed it.

I put a strip of firing on each side.  I had to pull it tight then screw it in.
I fixed the front and
The back.

Two Days

I couldn't log on to the internet for a couple of days.  Finally I unplugged the router and plugged it back in again.  That worked and it has been working ever since.  But that is just today.

23 January:  Thursday

This morning we drove to Utah County.  Our first stop was at the Payson Walmart where we bought three items.  Our next stop was in Prove at Sam's Club.  We let there with some groceries and other household items.  We drove to Orem where we stopped at TJ Max.  Robert gave Carol a $50 gift certificate.
I stopped in front of this large mirror and took a picture.  I wanted a picture of the jacket and tee shirt that Lisa gave me.
There were a couple of small wooden boxes.  I may make some that are similar.
A different angle.
Here is a letter box.
We were home fairly early in the afternoon.  I had Carol take this picture.   It is kind of heavy shirt or like jacket.  With the tee shirt I can wear it open.
The bird feeder was empty.  I took it down and filled it with a bird feed mix.
The snow was soft.  I pulled out all of the extension cords.  I removed the light around the post and the rope light.  I took a while to prepare them for storage.
I put all of the lights except the rope light in the totes.
I hung the rope light on a hook in the shed.

24 January:  Friday

I carried on roll of snow fence to the patio.
I have been taking apart this snow fence and using the lath for making boxes.  I have made boxes for potatoes and onions.  It has been hard to hold slats with glue applied to the end of the slat to the end of the rail.  While doing this drive a pin to hold them together.
I made the above jig which may be difficult to explain and to understand.  The base is made out 30x15 half inch plywood.   I glued a small strip of wood across the top.  Not clear on the above photo.  I made two small 'L's.  The one of the left is a mirror image of the on the right.  The one on the right is glued to the plywood.  The two rails sitting flat on the plywood.
I put the slats in place, then clamped the upside  'L' on the left to the plywood.  I glued the top and bottom stats to the rail and drove in the pins.   Then the same for the next two.  Last is the one in the middle.
Back to the greenhouses.  House five is no empty.   All of the blossoms are harvested.  It looks strange.
The harvesting crew moved to house six where worked more in an assembly line method.
A machine has a drum that spins.  The harvested flowers prepared for drying by starting at one end and drops into the box on the other end.   Dustin Smith is operating the machine.
I continued to take items out of the garage and take them out to the shed.   The two buckets on the top shelf are full of Sevin 5 Bait.  I got it for Mormon Crickets.    I labeled them.  I don't know what to do with them.  We don't have crickets and if we did, birds would eat the dead crickets and cats would eat the prisoned birds.
A close-up of the two buckets.
I moved the twenty-two foot pipes that were in the way of the shed by the grape plants.  They were laying on the ground.  I put some 2x4 pieces on the ground and put the pipes on top of them to keep them out of the mud.
The east end of the shed is pretty much filled up.

Closing this blog I have decided not to use the lath from a snow fence.  It takes a lot of work and the quality of the lath is inferior.  From now on I will buy lath.

Another Afternoon at the Shed

We spent the early morning at the Manti Utah temple.  We had lunch at the temple and soft ice cream at the Top Spot in Salina.

Yesterday. I made a shelf for the shed.  It went pretty well, except the shelf arms began to sag.  I had to put some supports on the stud under the shelf arm.
I glued the support piece to the shelf arm and held it in place with a screw.
The above photo shows the arm brackets in place.  The arm bracket on the end is screwed to the back wall.
This photo shows how it is attached to the stud.  At this point I didn't screw the support to the stud because the glue has not cure.   The support might break if the glue was somewhat fresh.
I put the shelf in place for the photo.

Sunday & Monday

Sunday 12 January
Snow this morning when we got up.  But not to much.  It was just a dusting.   Instead of pushing the snow of the driveway,  I got out my blower and with three extension cords,  I began.
It went pretty fast.  I figure that it was much faster and blowing did a much better job than a shovel.  I also, blew of the snow on our front sidewalk.
Above are three sweet potatoes that I started December 12. which was exactly one month ago.   There are roots near the bottom of the potato that are beginning to grow.
I took out one of the potatoes and placed it on the white cloth.  It is much easier to the roots in this photo.

Monday January 13
With breakfast and the new over I began the morning work.  I wanted to build shelves for the shed.  I am moving a lot of things in the garage to the shed.
I found a fairly nice sheet of 4x8 plywood.  I brought it to the patio and placed it on my pair of sawhorses.  With my new battery operated circular saw.  I measured sixteen inches to make a shelf.  I added four inches.  There is an eight foot firing board that I was going to use to guide my saw.  It didn't work because the board was to thick.  I then drew a line.  The saw worked really well, except when the blade stopped because of twisting the saw some.
I glued the rest of the pieces together for the push stick caddy together.  I then clamped it.   While the glue is curing I began work on the shelf.
I made some 2x2x20 inches long to hold the boards.  I screwed them to the studs.  I but three srews in each one.
I put the plywood on the braces, and put some of the stuff on the shelf.  The shelf began to sag some.
I fixed it by putting a small piece of plywood above the brace.  I did that to each stud.  That fixed the problem.
The glue has cured some.  I drilled a hole on each side for a pencil.  The above photo showing the pencils and the tape measures in the pockets.
The last photo of the push stick caddy shows it completed containing the push sticks.
The fertilizing system leaking badly a couple of weeks ago.  The above photo shows that it has been fixed and doesn't leak any morel

More Power & Shed Work

Monday morning is always wash day.  After breakfast I wrapped two of Carol's presents.  The You Tube video made it look easy, but it wasn't.   We put clean sheets on Carol's bed. She had a late Christmas card she wanted to mail.  I went with her to the post office.  We then took a lot of garbage to the dump.
Shane need more power at the greenhouse.   Trucks from Flowell  Electric were soon in front of our greenhouses.  They installed a larger transformer near the top of  a new power pole.  The next pictures are from different angles while they were doing it.
It is amazing how the could do this with out turning off the power.
They are removing the top wire from the pole.
It looks like there are four people there.  Two in the bucket and two on the ground.
This is the final photo.
Now back to the shed.  One of the studs was to short.  I started to stack some short pieces of 2x4's.  Drive screws through the bottom one into the sole plate.  The through the next on to the one under it. I had planned to use pocket screws to hold the studs in place.
Instead I used the short top plate as a sole plate.  The photo illustrates how this is done.
Here the four studs are in place.  I was much easier than making one long solo plate.
I found some good pieces of 7/16 plywood by the shack..  They were quite heavy, but I carried them to the shed.  I had to stop a couple of times, but I made.  I put some screws in the treated wood footing.  One on each end below the plywood.  I rested the plywood on the screws and singlely handed I was able screw it to the studs.  I then put screws through the plywood into all of the studs.
An inside look.
I had to cut the other piece of plywood at an angle.  It fit perfectly.  I screwed it to all of the studs and two the rafter above it.  Tomorrow, I will cover the part that looks like a door opening.

That is all that I got done today.  Our house phone quit working.  I spent some time trying to find out what was its problem.  I called the phone company several times.  The phone company uses automatic answering systems.  I was most irritated.
