More Hanging Tomato Plants

We made our weekly trip to the Fillmore Market for groceries.  Of course, we wore our masks.  There were only a few with masks.  We stopped at the IFA store for fifty pounds of hen scratch and fifty pounds of lawn fertilizer.

When we got back I removed all of the hoses of the lawn.
0
I put the backyard hose away at the side of the lawn in a figure eight.  When I use the hose without and kinks.
I back the lawn mower near the sweet corn where I emptied the bags covering small weeds.
I filled the bags twice.  The grass had not grown much since the last time I mowed it.  It was a week ago tomorrow.
Shane covered the compression coupler and valve box with dirt.
The other end is inside house two.
I put a ten foot extension on the west end of this row of tomato plants
There were seven small plant and they are all hooked to the white twine.

I watered them and the rest of the plants in the north garden.
The last thing for the day was set out another earwig trap in the dahlias.

Carol/Ophthalmologist/Last Mowing

The space where my tooth was is healing nicely now.

Sunday morning before the bedroom light was on, Carol bent over to pick up her house coat; her eye hit one of the vacuum attachment head on, or I should say, eye on.
We went toe the KEENEYE Family Vision.  the  ophthalmologist examined her eye and gave her a prescription for another eye drop.  We got some groceries and then went back to the Service drug where her prescription was filled.  It took the technician nearly forty-five minutes to get carols medical history and information of how she injured herself.
I left and went to Roper's to get a furnace filter.  The above filter is the old one and it is pretty dirty.  We always get a lot dust in the house.
The above phot shows the date of the old one.  the size is 16x25x2 inches.  It didn't take me long to install the new one.
Years ago I bought a stack of lights and shelves.  It was designed to start plants inside the house.  I took it apart today.  There were a lot of short 2x4's, one nice piece of 5/8 inch plywood, and three small sheets of MBX.   I put the sheets in the garage to keep them out of the weather.
One of the boards had several vacant Mud Dobber Wasps' nest.
All of the material was connected together with screws. I removed all of the screws.  Some of the boards were dusty and dirty.  I used a my drill to remove all the screws which I put in a Dream Whip container.
A picture of the 2x4 frame.
I mowed the lawn.   I don't think I have mowed the lawn at such a late date in the year.   There was not grass to cut, but I sucked up all of the leaves.  I had to dump four times.
When I finished, I drove the lawnmower to the shed.  It was a good fit.  The weather today was pretty good.
While in Fillmore I bought five sweet potatoes.  The top two are for baking and the bottom three are for propagation.   They will be put in a bottle tomorrow.

Monday Morning -- Catch Up

I read 1 Nephi 12 and 1 Kings 3

I am trying to build a couple of items made with wood each week.  I decided to make a pedestal for a potted plant.  We have one in the house and I don't know where it came from.  I took the measurements of the one in the house and then out to the garage to start on it.   Last week I made some wooden blocks to make a block puzzle.  They were on my table saw and on the out feed table.  They were in the way for my new project, so I glued them together.  The photo below shows the cube, but it is not put together the right way.  There are twenty-seven cubes.  They are glued together to make a small L, large L, small T, a large T, and two other configuration.
I went out to house one to remove more tomato plants while the glue was curing.  I haven't cut tomato plants for awhile.  The vines were much dryer now that they were the last time.  I worked part way on the two rows on the east side.
I then began making the pedestal. I found an old 2x4 about eight feet long and cut it into pieces from the cutting list that I made.  I was making the base and the pedestal top.  I cut all the 2x4's in half so that I had some like 3/4x4.  I planed them to give all the same thickness.  First, I glued the top together.  I didn't get a phot of the top.  This is the base.
I cut down more tomato plants in house one.  I finished with the two east row.
Carol took a group of ladies from the Butter Milk DUP Camp to Cove Fort.  I mowed the lawn.  There was no grass to cut, but a lot of leaves to pick up.  I took me about an hour.  I dumped the leaves in the melon garden.
Carol wanted me to put the cushions from the outdoor furniture in the garage for the winter.  They were already in plastic garbage bags.  I tied the top of each bag with twine to keep the cushions in and the dust out.  I also blew the leaves off the driveway.
Carol is not back from here DUP meeting at Cove Fort.  I then decided I would finish up the day in House six. Tomato plants in house six are really tangled.  Cutting down the tomato plants in house six is much more difficult than in house one.   However, they were really dry, and broke.  I worked on the row on the right.

Removing Dead Tomato Plants House Six

Carol suggested that I remove the to big tubs of purple fountain grass that was on each side steps on the front porch.  I wasn't going to do that because I had a couple of other things to do.  I quickly changed my mind.  I put them on the cart and hauled out to the compost pile.  I took one of them out and through it on the pile.  I couldn't get the other one out.  I then thought that I should cut them down and take them to house two and see if the would come back to life.  There were lot of green stems.
I then went to house six and began to remove the tomato plants.  I started on the south side of the west end.  There were all tangled up.  I pulled one partially out and removed the tomato clips and the counter weight.  Some were large nails and other were smaller type nail.  I continued until elven.

I began raking the leaves that were on the lawn.  Some areas were really thick with leaves and other arears there were not leaves.  I filled the tarp about five times.  I dumped one in the iris garden and two in the corn garden and one in the no till garden.

By now it was time for lunch.  As soon as lunch was over I stated to mow the lawn.  I filled the catcher up about seven times and dumped them in various places in the garden. One place was in the melon garden where I dumped three times.
As soon as I finished the lawn we drove to Fillmore for some groceries.  I got me a ten inch saw blade that had 86 teeth.  On the way home we stopped at the Ice Burg to get an ice cream cone.  We stopped there a couple of weeks ago for ice cream.  I gave her the money and she said that I didn't need to pay.  The same thing happened again today.  I ordered the ice cream and put the money on the counter.  She was already getting the cones.  Another clerk came and I told him that I was being served but he could take the money.  Just the other clerk handed me the ice cream.  I had a cone in each hand.  They handed the money back and put it between my two fingers.  he came out to help me out the door.  So strange.

As soon as we got home I unpacked the saw blade and put it on the saw.  I cut a few pieces of wood and was so surprised at the quality of the cut.  There was no tear out and the cut was so smooth.  I wonder why I didn't get a new blade much earlier.  I have done a bunch of projects that show the blade tear out.  The little blocks are lying against the blade.  The saw is off.
When we got home I went back to work in house six.  The picture below is taken from the east end of house six.
Below.  I have removed a lot of tomato plants. It went quite fast in site of the twine, the clips, and the counter weight.  I think I could get two rows done in about five hours.
I finished removing all the pole beans and the four section of steel pipe.  There are a few posts in the ground that I need to pull up.
The two hog panels wired together were badly bent.  I cut the wires and pulled the east one up on its edge.  I then pulled the west one up on its edge.  The job of straitening up the panels is for another day.

Piolet Light Went Out, Two Times

There is a funeral this morning and the viewing starting at nine.  I helped Carol with the funeral potatoes.  She cooked them yesterday and this morning she peeled the and I shredded them with a salad shooter.  With a spatula, I ate what was left in the bowl.  After pots and pans were cleaned I went outside.  The piolet light in house two was out.  I think that it was the heavy wind yesterday afternoon.

I cut down the perennials that were growing in the kidney.  I hope to kill the grass that is growing there
The lawn needs mowing today, but on the east lawn are tons of leaves.  To many for the lawn mower to get.  I was going to mow this afternoon when the leaves are dry and more brittle.  I decided to rake the leaves this morning.  I made a nice windrow of leaves.  I started with a large push broom and finished with an aluminum scoop shovel.

I laid out the tarp and put a heavy piece of iron on two of the corners.  Using the shovel and broom I pushed leaves on the tarp.  I drug the tarp out to Robert's garden.  I pulled about six loads to his garden.    About this time Carol called and told me that it was time to get ready for the funeral.  That I did.
After The funeral we came home for lunch.  I then hauled more leaves to Robert's garden.  There is quite a pile out there as shown in the photo below.
With most of the leave on the lawn removed,  I started up the lawnmower and began sucking leaves.  I dumped the lawnmower on the place I call the no till or no dig garden.  I filled the grass catcher again, but this time I over filled it and plugged it up.  I unplugged it, I thought, and started mowing again.  I had to unplug it again.  I built a little tool to help remove the plug.  It was a three foot stick with a screw through the end of it which made it easier to pull the leaves out of the shoot.  I made about five trips to the no dig garden.  The front lawn really looks nice with all of the leaves gone.
I found the stepladder after looking for it in every greenhouse twice.  With the ladder under the furnace I could light the piolet light.  The knob has three positions.    !. which is off  2. which is piolet, and 3. which is on.   Every time I try to light the piolet,  I turned the knob to off, thinking that I could push the knob down.  I discovered that I had to turn it to piolet, then I could push the knob down.  I did this and I was able to light the piolet.

Yesterday, Frank and I potted up 37 bush clemantis and we partially covered them with recycled potting soil.  I left a sprinkler running on the all night.  This afternoon I got one more wheelbarrow of soil so I could cover them completely.  I wetted the soil before I covered them.  This is how they looked this morning
The soil is wet and ready to use.
And this is how they looked after I had wetted the potting soil.  When it is powdery dry, the water runs off instead of soaking in.
I checked the piolet light just before dark and there was no light.  After dark with flashlights in hand  I was able to light the piolet.

The Lawnmower and the Turff Meet

I showered last night before I went home teaching.  This morning I skipped the shower and picked the sweet corn.  Carol and I shucked the corn and we cut off all the kernels.   We ended up with a gallon zip bag packed full of the corn kernels. They are in the freezer.  This afternoon I cut some of the corn down.
It had rained last night and the ground was a little muddy and the lawn was wet.  l removed the hose on the lawn.  By then the lawn had pretty well dried out.  I replaced a small bolt on the throttle lever with a shorter one.  The lawnmower motor idles too high.  Replacing the small bolt did not help.  I mowed the lawn and dumped the grass catcher twice.
I moved the patio furniture a little further to the north.  We covered it a couple of days ago and the rain last night.
I takes a little over and hour to mow our big lawn.   Below is the east lawn.

I drove the lawnmower in through the south door.  I backed it into the small space in house three.

I worked the rest of the morning in house one.  I pulled weeds and pruned branches on tomato plants on both rows, left and right.
The next row to the west is in terrible shape.  Branches are growing across one another and across the row.  I pulled weeds and pruned the branches.  I left the branches in the middle of the row.

One of the gourd plants has died.  I think that the squash bugs killed it.  I pulled it up and will plant something else in its place.

Cool Day

Our lawn was mowed about ten days ago and is now pretty tall.  I mowed it this afternoon.  I had to move the lawn furniture.  I will move it back when I mow next week.
I sprayed some weeds that were missed the last time I sprayed.  I filled the tank up twice.

The bathroom sink has been draining slowly.  It is partially plugged.  Carol has asked me several times to fix it.  I took trap apart and removed a few other parts and they were filled with yuck.  I put a pan under the drain to catch the water and the yuck.  I took some of the parts outside and sprayed them with the hose.  This remove all of the yuck.  I put it together.  That did not speed up the draining any.  I went to You Tube to find the solution.  The video showed how to remove the stopper.  I did that.   The lever that lifts the stopper is behind the drain pipe and can't be seen.  I pushed a wet old sock through it and pulled it out through the bottom.  I put it together and it drained perfectly.
Several projects today.  Yesterday we bought a large clay pot and a base.  We have a plant, which I don't remember the name.  I been on the kitchen window and has been trained to clime a straight stick.  I put it in the larger clay pot.  I found a nice stick about six feet long.  I sharpened one end into a long point.  I could not remove the plant from the pot.  I had to break it.   I filled the new pot with potting soil and some compost.  I put the plant in the pot and pushed the trellis which is a single six foot stick.  Finally, I was able to plumb trellis.  It is sitting in front of the door to the patio.  The plant is rapped around the trellis and is difficult to see.
I repaired a small piece on the plant stand.
