Shopping, Meds, and Bait

We usually shop Friday morning at eight.  This morning we went at nine, because we had to have our prescriptions filled.   We got the groceries first.  There were a few of us that had our masks on. At the pharmacy Carol had two fill and I had one.  We had to wait quite awhile as there were people ahead of us.  They wouldn't fill mine because it was already filled at Sam's Club.  He said that I could get ninety tabs for about $17.00.  That is pretty cheap.
The early corn is starting to tassel.  This is a new variety that we haven't tried before.  I watered almost everything.  I did a lot of weeding while watching the water.
We were expecting company tonight.  They would get Carol's bedroom and Carol would sleep with me in my bedroom.   The tub didn't have a stopper.  I bought one while were in Fillmore.  We then wouldn't have to go to the main bathroom bathe.

Earwigs have damaged the Pole beans.  I went online to see what will kill them.  I was and equal mix of Olive oil and Soy Sauce.  I found a couple of small portion cups, but I needed a lid.  In the pantry there was a pint plastic peanut butter container I thought might work.

Then I found a glass half pint bottle.  I found a lid and drilled five holes.   One at four edges and then one in the middle.   I put the the mix in the bottle.
I made a deep hole next the Blue Lake pole beans.
I put it in the hole and covered soil against the lid.
I did the same with a  fourth quart bottle on the other side of the bean hoops.
I read the directions again and the hole should be a quarter inch.  I re-dilled the holes with a quarter inch bit.

I have done this before and the cats have eaten the bait.  A lid and ring on the bottle prevents cats from eating the mix.

Peas and More Peas

First thing we did after breakfast was to go over to the Masner's and bring take the garbage container out to the road.  I then started picking the peas.
We have two litters of kittens this spring.  We have seen as many as six kittens at one time.  The above photo shows and orange kitten and a black kitten in the same dish.
I started picking peas around nine.  The peas are on a two foot wire trellis so they are not on the ground.   I had to bend over some and after a while my back began to ack. I got a lawn chair and was able to sit most of the time.  I would pick and put them in the tote.  I then moved the chair and the tote.
I picked a tote full of peas.  Carol washed them and then we set down together on the sofa with the tote between us. It took about two hours to shell all the peas.  Carol blanched them and we put them on two large cookie sheets and then put them in the freezer.   Late this afternoon,  We put the frozen peas in two zip lock freezer bags.
I really like my new weed eater.  I looked for weeds to cut down.  There was a lot of foxtail, cheat grass, and wild lettuce north of house greenhouse three.  I worked out there and cut them down.  I weed eated until the battery went dead.  I took about three hours re-charge it.

What a Day

We have wanted to go to Orem to get a Manti Temple porcelain statue.  We couldn't do it Monday, because we had a water turn.  We couldn't do it on Tuesday, because Carol had doctor appointments.  So we went this morning.  We got a few other things on the way.  Wal Mart, Sam's Club, Home Depot, and Deseret Bookstore.  I wanted a cordless weed eater and there were several at Home Depot.   I asked an associate to direct me to the location.  I went to the garden center as he instruted me to do.  I couldn't find one,   With some help another Home Depot associate we found the one that I wanted.

I went back to the register to pay for it.  I used my Visa credit card.  This was the fourth time this morning to use it.  It was declined four or five times.  I was asked to use another card.  I didn't have my wallet and I would have to go out to the car where carol was waiting for me.  I asked her to got to another register.  She did and it worked.  She gave me my card back and I went out to the car where Carol was waiting.

We then drove to the Deseret Book Store.   Yesterday, I contacted every Deseret Book Store in the USA on the internet.  The Orem store was the only store that had one.  I went to use my credit card to pay for it.  I couldn't find it.  Carol used hers and we went back to the Home Depot.  We couldn't find it.   Carol wanted me to call the credit card company.  I wanted to wait until we got home.  There was a number on her card that I used.  I went through several menus and finally I was able to talk to a real person.  I answered some questions and didn't have with me some information I needed.  I tried several times while we were driving home.  We stopped a couple of times on the way and finally I talked to another person as we road the rest of the home.

I called the card phone number and waited and waited.  I hung it up and found a number online and called it.  I soon talked to a live person again.  I was able to answer her questions correctly.  They closed that credit card account and are sending me a new card.
I took this picture of the cabbage and broccoli.  It is really doing well.
I had to wait at the Sam's Club pharmacy for ten minutes.  An old man walked up the window to ask questions.   He had a pair of sweat pants on the back of them are nearly worn out.
After we had been home for awhile, I put the Rhybie weed eater together.  I charged the battery.  It took about two hours.
I was really pleased at the way that it worked.  I did some trimming around the front and back yard.  The above photo of an ash tree was and easy job to trim away the tall grass.
Carol wanted me to cut away the Vinca that is growing over these stepping blocks.  They went halfway over the blocks.  I was on my hands and knees cutting away the vines with Carol's scissors.

Hail and Irrigation Damage

It got pretty cold last night and there was some frost on the top of the garage.  This morning, I walked out to the garden to see if there was any frost damage.  There wasn't any but the rain, hail, and irrigation left some plants completely covered with mud.  I took a bunch of pictures.  There is not enough information to tell the exact location of each photo.
Some are washed and others are not washed.  I used a spray bottle for the small plants and a watering can for the larger plants.  Most of the larger ones are tomato plants.

This shows a Topaz melon at the far right and volunteer melon plants.  They will be hoed out soon.
This is the pile of compost.

This afternoon I went to Dearden's in Fillmore to have the car serviced.  It was finished after forty-five minutes.  That is the fastest that it has been done for me.  While I was there, Wade Lemon called wanting some help his plant propagation.  I asked him to come and get me.  I looked out the window and the our car had been moved.  I called him back and cancelled my request.  I was soon home.  He was getting buckets of recycled potting soil.    His truck was backed into our driveway.  I got in with him in his truck and we stopped in his backyard.  He had a lot of different native plants on the north side of a shed and more on the inside.  Most were doing really pretty good.

Carol and I went for our evening drive around Holden.

Irrigation #2

We were notified yesterday, Sunday, that we would have our water turn this morning at six.  It is getting light at six, so I asked Chuck, the water master,  if it would be alright to take the water at seven.   He approved.  I got the pipes lined out and it was about 6:45 when I took the water.
I started with the water on the east side of the house.  The pipe started at the apple tree and ended on the east side of Snail Hill.
This show the water entering the pipe at the main ditch.   There was a lot of water and it got pretty high in the ditch.  I took picture and then let the water run down the ditch to Dearden's.
I put a cap that had a two inch hole on the end of the pipe at Stephenson's.
I took the cap off the pipe and the water run down to the grapes and asparagus.    After the water made it way to the end of the rows, I put the cap back on.
I put the gated pipe on which started water running down the east lawn.
We had a lot of irrigation water.  It ran off the front lawn, across our driveway, and even went past Raymond and Ann Stephenson's house.
I then started the water running on the back lawn.  I had to shut the water of to put the camp on the --end of the pipe.
I put together these two inch PVC pipes for watering part of the front lawn.  It worked perfectly.  I could have had the outlets further apart.
I would got up the source of our water.  This is where the water would enter into the pipe that takes the water to our yard.  I used a metal broom rake to remove the floating leaves and small stems. remove the screen that catches the debris because it plugged.
I asked Wade Lemon if he would move the pile of compost behind greenhouse three.  One of his his workers did it today.  The yellow object is the skid steer that he owns.
He has finish moving the pile of compost, and is smoothing the area.
The job is completed.
Our irrigation water had run down the barrow pit.  It was really muddy as he drove back and forth.  The pile of compost is in the back if the picture.
Here is the road, the tracks that he made, and the hole that filled up with water.
The compost is piled next to our garden where I can use a wheel barrow to move it around in the garden.
The water continues to come up throw this clean-out pipe.  It run in the Chapman's yard.  I called and she said that it would be okay.
The water run back into our yard and covered some of the hemp plants.  Shane wanted me to stop the water from running into the hemp plants.
Here is another photo from a different direction.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Carol went to the hospital to have some lab work done this morning.  She the got an appointment this afternoon at 3:30.  We checked about a quarter after and waited there for about and hour before we talked to the doctor.  The result of the examination was and EKG and an x-ray on her knees.

Mowed the Lawn

Saturday morning and I missed my working with wood show.  There was a rain forecast for eleven.  I wanted to get the lawns mowed.  I took the cushions off the patio furniture and put them in the garage.    I moved the garden hoses and started to mow.  The grass was not as tall this time as it was the last time I mowed.   I didn't do any weed eating, because it is broke.
It took me nearly two hours to finish..  I dumped the grass clippings on my compost pile.   There was no rain and the weather most of the time was cool.  I did some weeding.
I cut these orange foxtail lilies.  Carol put them in a vase.  I want to dig this up this fall and divide them.
I watered the plants in the raised beds and pulled these carrots.  They are about four inches long.  We will be picking peas in the morning for dinner.
This afternoon I was weeding around the grape plants and discovered two more grape plants that I thought were dead.
They are pretty small, but should be pretty big by the end of the summer.
The pipes on the cart were laying on the ground west of house four.  I loaded them on the cart and brought near the shed to store them.
Jim and Carol Masner are moving.  Carol made some brownies for them as they travel.  We gave them the brownies,  I wanted to get some pictures before they go.   Jim and I are waiting for the Carols, the girls.
Here is the picture.
