Rain, Planting, and Cutting.

I planned on going to Fillmore this afternoon to get a cattle panel.   Carol needed some potato chips and suggested that I go this morning before it rained.   I went this morning and got the chips at the market and got the cattle panel at Fillmore Feed.  The above picture is where I unloaded it on the driveway.  I carried it out to the garden and went in for lunch.  Carol made some veggie soup.

I worked in house six planting more tomato plants.  No Tail, that has spent a lot of time in House six was laying in the back.  

Planted quite a few tomato plants.  They are pretty small.

I then put grass clippings around the plants to cover any emerging weed seeds.  The small tomato plants are circled in green.

I cut down most of the kale, broccoli, and a few other plants.  They were covered with aphids.

Rain and the Weed Whip

After breakfast and a little bit of TV news, I pulled the two flat wheel barrows out of house two.  I put them inside for the night and outside during the day.

I backed the car near the north door of house two and unloaded the potting soil and the soluble fertilizer.   I cannot lift the soil like I used to do.  It is quite heavy.  I rolled it over end to end and then drug it the rest of the way into the greenhouse.

The bale of soil is standing on its end by the door.  I pulled in side and laid it flat on the floor next to the potting box.  I cut the bale in half and then was able to lift each half into the box.

I broke up the hard pieces of soil.  

Next I brought in the fertilizer.  I don't know the parts per million for the injector.  The above picture gives those directions.  I will begin to fertilize tomorrow.

I got a picture of the building that Neil Stevens is putting together.

The Italian parsley is way out of control.  I dug it up and carried it to the compost pile west of the hen house.

We drove to Fillmore to get Chrysanthemums for Memorial Day.  We got fifteen.  We then stopped at Fillmore feed and bought the a hanging basket which will hang from our front porch.

I put the basket on the step to get another picture.

 I planted the bunching onions.  They are in 105 tray.   I could easily pull them out.  I put them in another tray that had larger cells.  I planted them next to the other onions.

I took the weed whip to Penny's because it didn't have any power.  He did some adjustments.   When I got home I did a lot of trimming.  It worked much better.  I cut down the tall grass and other weeds next to the Miller's.  I run it tell it run out of gas.  I came back and weeded some more until the whip was gone.  I put on new string then I couldn't start the weed whip.  I think that it was flooded.

Carol pulled a lot of weeds and grasses of the hill.  there are several large piles.

I also cut the weeds around house three. 

I found this weed in house.  It has a beautiful seed head.  I then dug it up and put it in a garbage can.

The pea plants in house six are really tall and there are new blossoms at the top.

I pruned all of the tomato plants in house six and hung some some that hadn't been hung yet.

I picked a nice batch of peas.  I also picked on cucumber and ate half of it this evening.

Meeting Some of Carol's Siblings and Their Spouses

We met a Chuck-o-Rama in Orem, Utah, at noon.

Cold all Day

These two cats are making their home in the west end of house six.  We call the top one Gray and the bottom one on the right Cat Without a Tail.  On the east end I could barely hear the soft meow from what I thought were kittens.

I thought that deer were gone.  Last week I talked to someone from the DWLR who told me that he would report the damage and shoot the deer or get rid of them.   Well, this morning they were back.  I walked out and got a few pictures and they would not leave until I made some loud noises.  There were three.  The doe has a tag in her right ear.

She probably wanted a picture of me, put she didn't have a camera.

The tomato plants in house six are not looking very healthy.  I mixed up a several buckets of liquid fertilizer.  Started dipping a cup into the water and then bending over an pouring it on the base of the tomato plants.  That got pretty tiresome of bending over then standing up and bending over again.  I got a funnel and a piece of PVC pie.  I could then stand up and pour the fertilizer into the funnel.

This is the other one.  I used only teaspoons and tablespoons of the liquids per gallon of water.

Ladybugs, After 24 Hours

It was one of our colder nights this month.  One batch of ladybugs hadn't moved much during the night.  But by the afternoon they have moved and I would find them through out house six.  I should have bought three thousand.  The instructions said that it would take a couple of weeks before they would produce offspring.

I started to build a small stool that was shorter than the tall one I built last year and taller than my smaller one.  I guess I could call it my in-between one.  I finished it this morning.  I did it much faster than the other ones.

I picked peas and strawberries.

I was working in house six much of the day pruning off the suckers or branches of the tomato plants.  Having the medium size stool I was able to sit most of the time.  I also put on more tomato clips.  There getting to be quite a few green tomatoes.

I took some photos, but for some strange reason I could download them to my laptop.  I tried numerous times and they just wouldn't.   I will try again tomorrow.

The weather was pretty cool today and it would rain some and then the sun would shine some.

Almost from Sun-up to Sun-down

After the morning news and breakfast I began the yard work.

Yesterday, I transplanted eight  Purple Cherry.  I didn't get the picture until this morning.

It was a cool morning so I made an irrigation furrow for the potatoes.  I dug it on the south side and put the soil on top of the potatoes.  

There some large Candy onions that I planted from seed around the first of the year.  I made seven holes, put the onion in the hole and pushed soil around it.  I didn't cut off the tops of the onions.

The Stephenson's next door wanted some rhubarb.  I pulled a bunch of stems for them.

I ordered seeds for Alisha.  These are Miracle Fruit seeds.  There were four in the package.    We also planted some strawberry seeds and one that we could not find the name.

Here Alisha planted some in a clear plastic drinking cup.  It is a cup in a cup.  She made a hole in the bottom of the cup with the soil.  Then put water in the bottom cup to guarantee that the planted cup would get well irrigated.

 Carol is giving the lesson at the DUP meeting Monday.  Part of her lesson has to with silk worms and mulberry tree.  The above photo is one that I think that Brigham Young had planted through out the state.

I ordered lady bugs and they were early this afternoon..  There are 500 in each container.

Clair Harmon ordered sod and it came today.  Several people helped lay down the sod.

I can't tell who this is.

 We had a break for cookies and a drink of water.

A couple of days ago, Sister Harmon bought some geraniums from us.  She planted them in the planter near the front door.

The burpless cucumbers are coming up.

Just before dark I turned loose the lady bugs in house six.  There cabbage and other things that are lousy with aphids.  I was going to put on container in house two and the other one in house six.  House six has a whole lot more aphids than house six does.
