Removing Tomato Vines.

 Soon after breakfast I put on my jacket to finish removing the tomato vines that I started yesterday.  The temperature was cold and I wore my jacket most of the day,  However, I took it off in the afternoon.

Yesterday,  They put the poly on house two. The poly was used last year.  It was dirty and had some holes.  They will be putting new poly on a little later.

We didn't have and Halloween candy.  We could of driven to the Payson Wall Mart and bought a couple of large bags of candy.  We decided get the candy at the Fillmore Market.  They cost more money but we didn't take a couple of hours and we saved on gasoline.  It took us about and hour to make the round trip. to Fillmore. 

There was a frost last night and froze the tomato plants.   I worked most of the day removing the rest of the plants on the north side of the north garden.  I took this photo from the west end.

This photo is from the east looking to the west.  I removed most of the conduit.    Also, I removed the posts and wires holding the cucumber vines.

There is a big stack of frozen tomato plant vines.

Turning Off the Water

This morning I worked in the garage making new bases for the cut out pumpkins.  I finished one Yesterday I finished bases for for two pumpkin cutouts and this morning.  I finished the third one.   I picked a lot of small tomatoes.  We gave them to Ann next door.  One of her grandsons is being baptized Saturday and they are have a family dinner.  

Before I could see the base of each pumpkin cut out.  Now they look much better.    Expecting a fairly hard freeze in the morning. 

The photo shows the back side.  I put a brick onto of the base so the wind won't blow it over.  We show the backside when Halloween  is over.  Should I paint it orange to match the pumpkin are do I paint it brown as and earthy color or and other color.

 I shut off the water and opened every tap and faucet from the well to the west end of our yard.  I drained out all of the water in the lines.

A couple of Ann's kittens were drinking from the end of one pipe line where I removed a cap off te pipe.

I cut down five or six tomato plants on the north side of our garden.  I stacked the cages on the far end of the row.

The tomato plants ended up at in a big pile of plant material I have been putting there for the last couple of years.

Because of the danger of frost, I moved the pomegranate tree to the garage.  I had to pull up the guy wired and dipped it over.  I dragged it to the drive way and pulled it to the garage.  I stood it up one the west side of the garage between the car and the west wall.  It was about nine when I did it.

New Home

Late last night about elven, there was two deputy cars with lights flashing.  I walked out to see what was going on.  I went back in the house and put on my shoes and walked much closer.  The only thing that I could hear was that someone was trespassing.  I thought that someone was walking through the hemp plants.  It wasn't.  We learned this morning that there were two boys from Holden, two from Fillmore and one from Meadow knocking on door and then driving away.  Someone got their license plate number and and called the police.  They caught them in front of our house.  They were there for about thirty minutes.

I finished the spice cabinet.  There were some problems.  We have to many spices. There are up to five bottles for the same spice.

I stacked some spices on top of each other.  The door won't slam so, so far they have not fallen off the shelf.

Last night the forecast was for freezing temperatures so I picked the biggest one.   

Then I picked the rest of them.  Three in total.  I will cut the smallest one tomorrow.

I spent a couple of days building new bases for the pumpkins.  The one on the left is the ugly one and the one on the right is the pretty one.  I have two more to go.  We have a new kitten.  I kept it in the garage last night.  The neighbor north of use have a couple of dogs.  One was in the garden with me and it chased some kittens in the rose bushes on the west end.  The kittens escaped into the rose bushes.  The dog went towards the house.  I followed it to see what it would do when he saw our small new kitten.  As soon as the dog saw the kitten it lunged for it.  I grabbed the collar and the dog let loose of the kitten.

I walked over to the neighbor's house and knocked on the door.  There was not answer.  There was some one in the next yard.

There was a dead kitten on the lawn west of his house.  I took the picture by I was pretty shaky and didn't get a good picture.

It took me a couple of hours to pick the beans and the tomatoes.  Lisa and Emi came and we gave them the tomatoes.  

Emi was going to do the written test for her driver's license but they didn't bring a birth certificate.  They brought some food from Costa Vida for dinner.  we had a good visit They took the small kitten with them.

Orphans Kitten

It is pretty dark when I get up.  I read my Book of Mormon Chapter and posted it on Face Book.  Carol got up and we fed the cats.  The hemp guys started harvesting the hemp in our back yard.

Dustin and Shane are harvesting.  They strip off the seed cluster and put them in a large plastic bag.

I began working on the spice rack.  I planed on using plexiglass, but after looking  at different examples Pinterest  I decided to make some major changes.  I will explain it later.  

I began to paint the new parts.  I would paint awhile then do something else awhile, while the paint dried.  I went back and forth from painting to drying. 

I picked the beans in the tunnel while waiting for the paint to dry.

Here is the finished version.  I think that it looks pretty good.

I had to cut out a piece of wood above each shelf and then glue.  There are five shelves and I made small boards a little above each shelf.  I would have been much better if I would have done it a week ago.

We have three pumpkin cut out on the front porch.  The bases that holds them up are very ugly.  I am making some new ones with the hope of making them more attractive.

Here is the kitten.  It has been here all day.  It comes up and eats and tries to nurse on One Eye.  She won't let her.  Tonight we put her in the laundry room.  She whined and whined and whined some more.  I put her in the frosting bucket in the garage.  She got out of it. I put an old towel in the bottom of an old apple box.   I then but here in the apple and covered it with a piece of plywood.

Ray and Marri Anne brought a gift for Alex and Brook.  We had a good visit.  I showed them around the hemp farm.

Painted Spice Rack

Wasn't as cold last night, but turned on furnace anyway.   I uncovered the Blue Lake bush beans.  They are still growing.  The pole beans are doing well.  We are expecting a hard frost Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

I finished scraping all of the old paint off both sides of the plywood back. I then painted both sides of the plywood backing.  I put on at least two coats of white paint.   I painted the rack shelves on top and bottom.  Also both sides inside and outside. 

I made four of these things.  It is a square piece of plywood with a screw coming up from the bottom.  I put the back on top of the four screws which held the back off the workbench.  It soon dried.  I then turned the back piece over and painted the other side.  

For lunch I picked four ears of corn.  It was really tasty.   However, the ears were quite short.  

The bird haven't been feed for at least a week.   I filled up the feeder and hung it back in the tree.

This evening the three little kittens showed up.   The mother cat is One Eye.  We haven't seen those kittens for weeks.  In fact it has been so long that we thought that they had died.  They were in the food pans, frying pans, and eating like they have never eaten before.  They ate for a long time.

The Broke/Alex Reception

 I picked beans this morning and got a half bucket full.  We gave these to Carol's sister, Nyleen.

As soon as it was light i got this picture of the hemp plants.  They were washed and hung out to dry.

The beans were hanging all over in the tunnel trellis. I picked most of them and then where in the bag that we took to Linden for Nyleen.  

It was about ten hen we left.  We got some supplies at Sam's Club.  We then went to Linden.  We delivered the beans to Nyleen and Miles cut my hair.  It was the shortest cut that I have received for a long time.  We drove up American Fork canyon.  On the way up there was a nursery selling pumpkings and other Halloween items.  There was some shrubs there and it looked like about five foot spruces.  A closer look revealed that they were hemp plants.  There was quite a bunch of them.

We found our way up to Granite Flat for the wedding reception.  Emi was the first one we saw when we got there.  She saw us and opened the gate so we could drive.  Emi is making the macaroni and cheese.  That was one of the things that was served.

We were sitting around a large raised fire pit in the sun trying to keep warm.  Richard is on the left.  Emily, Richards daughter is next and Carol is wearing Richard's heavy coat.  She brought only a sweater.

Here they are preparing a lunch.  Eric Gray near the center left is preparing the pulled pork.

Dax Gray is setting up some light.  We left before he had all of them running.

More meal preparation.

Emi is making smores.  Crackers, chocolate and marsh mellows.  We went strait home except for gas at Costco and purchased a new pair of overalls at the farm store.  We were home about seven.  I covered the cucumber plants.

Hemp Invaded our Back Yard

 Yesterday, I gave the hemp growers permission dry the hem in our back yard.  The wind was blowing dust from the horse pasture east of the farm.  It is most likely that the dust would change the chemical analysis of the harvested hemp.  That would be the lost of the crop.

The first had frost of the year.  The zucchini froze.  I was going to run some water down the row, but I forgot.  I picked about a dozen zucchinis and three cucumbers.  I took them to the post office for Share the Harvest bench is.

The pepper plants were frozen as well as watermelon vines.

I drove to Fillmore for Plexiglas.   I needed two inch wide pieces to cover the front of each shelf.  There were five shelves.  The person that helped me cut off five pieces.   A small piece broke of the end.  Even after I cut of the small piece, it was still long enough.  She cut an extra one and the piece she had left was to small to sale so she gave it to me.

I bought some groceries at the Fillmore Market and then came home.

I picked a small watermelon intending to feed it to the chickens.  It turned out to be quite ripe with black seed.  I ate the first half which was sweeter than I thought it would be. I put the other half in the fridge to be eaten at a later date.

Carol asked me to put the pumpkins out.  She wanted them at close to the door.

Some sadness.  One of the hemp workers told me about two dead kittens.  There were found south of the shade house.  I haven't seen these before.  Above is a white kitten that looks like it was killed by a dog.

The other one is black and looks like it was also killed by a dog.   Shane said that he had found some dead kittens;

Many of the determent tomato plants were damaged by the frost.

I dug an eighteen inch deep hole between two grape plant.  I put the black one in first and the white one on top.  I back filled the hole.  They will decompose and eventually feed some grape plants.
