Bad Bent Panel

I started a seed order for the spring plant.  I didn't have any of the summer squash seeds.  I had some in the shed.  I searched all over the shed for those seeds.  I may have thrown them away last spring.  Jim was putting old pots from the pad in the south east corner of our place in a trailer.  He told me that he took off the tires of the tractor and ordered new ones.

I pulled up all of the pipes in house one.  And took them to the garden. 

This is the third hog panel that I will add it to the other two panels of the hoop garden.  There is a bad bend in it.  The bend shows in the above photo.  Also, the four pieces of wood to put on each end of the panel.

I tried several ways of straightening panel.  Blocks were place on each side and pipe under the panel.  I stepped on it jumped on it. Nothing worked.

I put the blocks on their ends.  I also put a lot of weight one end.  I stepped and jumped on it.  That didn't work either.

I gave up on straightening it and put it up anyway.  I laid a block on the outside edge and with the yellow strap I was able to pull the bottoms together into the right place.

I used another strap to straighten the south side,

I began to wire the panel to the existing panels.

I used clamps to pull the edges together.  I then wired it together.  The orange clamp did not work to well.

I got another one.  There is a board on the inside.  To of them didn't work either.  But gave me a good idea for tomorrow afternoon.

One More Hoop

Hoops and Truck

This morning we drove to Provo.  We left at 8:30 and made it back home a little before one.  Be bought things at Wal Mart in Payson and Sam's Club in Provo.  We then drove to Orem and had a good visit with Carol's brother, Gary Peay.  He seems to be feeling better than the last time we were there over a month ago.  We stopped a Wendy's in Payson.  We got two chicken sandwiches and one a large cup of lemonade.

I watched a little TV, checked Face Book, and had a few snacks.  I went out to the garden to straighten the hog panels.  Using a few concrete blocks in the right place, I was able to straighten the first of three panels.  I found two 2x6 pieces of treated wood.  The length of the 2x6 was the as the width of the hog panels.

I used screws on each end to hold the panel in place.  I then put a more screw  along the length of the 2x6.

This is a photo of the second panel.  I cut off the panel a half inch strip of wood and attached it to the 2x6 with screws every eight inches.

Then the hard part.  The above photo shows the panel on its edge with the two 2x6's on each end.  I pulled both ends together with twine and held them together with more twine.

One of the pieces broke so made small piece to finish it.

I tried to start the truck, but the battery was pretty much dead.  I put the charger on it and came back to it after dark.  The truck started right up.  I put the charger away and backed up the track in a different location in the driveway.  

I got one hoop into place.  I drove some steel pipes into the ground.   One on each side  to hold the hoop sides in place.

On the second panel I used a screw and washer to hold the panel in place.

Peas & Carrots

We were at the Manti Utah temple this morning as patrons.   It was nearly one when we got home.  I watched a little TV then went out to the garden;  I dug up all of the carrots yesterday.  I planted more carrots in the same bed as the carrots last year.

I looked all over for the rake.  I found it in house five.  I smoothed the raised bed.

I planted the seeds directly out of the package.  That went pretty good.  Then with the broom rake, I raked again that would cover some of the seeds with soil.

I got the square nosed shovel to pat the soil against the seeds.  I quickly built a tool.  It was easy to pat the soil against the seeds.  It has been my experience that seeds germination is improved if the is firm around the seeds.

Here it is finished.

The peas that I planted last October did not do well.  A few germinated.  The rest rotted or were covered with to much soil.   I took a stirrup hoe and tilled the row several times.

I pulled the soil from the bottom of the row with a hoe and the with a rake.  I used a pointed row hoe and made the row a little deeper.

I planted the Green Arrow seeds quite thick.  I then would plant some and cover them before I moved up the row to plant some more.  I did all of this on my hands and knees.  Then I started to pat down the soil as I moved up the row,  

I then wen back and finished patting down the soil.

Here it all finished.  Waiting for some rain or snow to give it a good watering.

What's Wrong?-Another Stool

I didn't plan on another stool today, but Duston Smith, one of the hemp workers, whole quite tall, has a difficult time sitting one of the short stool that are in the greenhouses.  I decided to make a higher stool.

I walked out to the garden where the hoops were placed.  We grew pole beans for two years.  The first year there were lots of beans.  Last year there were only a few.    The snow storm that we had a week ago Sunday  collapsed because of the weight of snow.   I tried to straighten it up, but the stiff cattle and hog panels were way to stiff for me to lift it.  I used a few board to block it up but I couldn't lift it.

I went to work building the stool.  I ripped the legs from two inch boards.  I used my thickness plainer to make the skirt or spacer.  The thickness of the skirt would match the thickness of the legs. This is the first time that I used my plainer for several years.   I built this stool in the same manner as the stool I made last week.  took me a little over an hour to build it.   The top was made out of two pieces of half inch plywood with a space between making it easy pick up with one hand.  I put feet on the two legs to prevent the legs from sinking into the moist ground.

The pomegranate was in house six.  Someone moved it to the back of house five making it easier for me to keep it watered.   It should have small fruits by now.

Back  to the hoop house.  There are about six panels.  I started to straighten the panels one at a time.

I pulled  two to the west end of the garden.  

The other panels I pulled these a little to the south.  When I get some help I will put the back up.

I dug up all of the carrots.  The filled the bucket.  I filled the bucket with water and then washed them with a large scrubbing brush.

 Here is the bucket full of carrots that have been washed.  I took them in the house and rinsed them.  i put them back in the buckets and covered them with a large wet bath towel.  Now, they are in the fridge in the garage.  There are more than what we can eat.  Most likely we will give some of them away.

Before the week is up I am going to plant more carrots for an early summer crop.

Remodel or Redesign

It was nearly two this afternoon when we got home from the Manti Utah temple.  Soon after that I took the stool that I made a last week and begin to take it apart.

This stool is very uncomfortable.  I took it apart. Last week I screwed in the screws, which I thought were very tight.  The screws are loose and I could easily twist the legs and stretchers.   It was easy to build but would probably fall apart after a couple of weeks sitting on it.

The legs were about 21 inches long.  I cut it down to about 17 inches long.  

I then drilled holes about six inches from the bottom of the seat. I drilled on one side of the leg and rolled the legs one turn and drilled a hole about a half inch lower than the older hole.  I counter sank each hole from the drilled side

I glued and screwed everything together.  I shortened the leg to much.  I am thinking about put a pad on top.

Saturday Morrning & Monday

I watched my wood working TV show this morning.  Both were reruns, and the third one was canceled.  I went out to the garage and did some more cleaning.

The photo above shows my drill press.  The bench that my drill press was sitting on was covered with sawdust and a bunch of other junk.  I vacuumed off most of the sawdust.  

There was not much light so this photo is pretty fuzzy.  There were a lot of tools under the bench.  I moved them and set them aside for a moment.  In the corner there were a lot of sprinkler pieces that at one time were used to irrigate the pasture which was here when we bought this place.  I put them on the wheel cart in the back yard.

I put some screws in the table saw stand.  This was a good place to hang some of the wrenches.
2 March 2020 Monday
Shane England who rented our place paid the rent.  He said that I could put our Dracaena in the west end of house five.  We drove to Fillmore to make a deposit at the bank and credit union.  We bought some groceries.

Shane and Jessan wheeled it to house five.  Hopefully it will do a lot better out than being in the garage.   I started to make a bar stool  I watched a You Tube channel.  I cut all of the pieces, chamford the edges, and sanded them began to assemble the parts.   I started wrong and had to go back and watch the video again.  I went back several times and watched it again.  I made it out of old pieces of 2x4's and an old piece of plywood.  It was quite easy to put together and all parts were plum and square. All parts were joined together with screws with not glue.

It looks pretty good.

And here is another picture.  I took it in the house and set on it.  It was not at all comfortable,  Most of the comments on You Tube were negative.  Tomorrow afternoon I going to make some modifications.   I may take it all apart.  I am going to shorten it,  use glue and ad some braces.
