Mother's Day

We were up late last night.  I chose to sleep in.  I turned off my alarm light.  But I did get up at five to start the roast in the slow cooker.  I turned it on for eight hours.   I then went back to bed and slept some.  I fed the cats and prepared mush, eggs, and toast.  I opened the east doors to greenhouse five.  We went to the sacrament meeting.  There were three youth speakers and one adult speaker.  Instead of speaking about mothers.  It was Mother's Day, they spoke about: "Come Follow Me"

Priesthood meeting followed.  I studied the lesson this morning.  I made a mistake and studied the wrong lesson.  I was somewhat frustrated because I couldn't figure out why the teacher was on a different lesson.   After the meeting, it was explained to me.  Potatoes and carrots were added to the slow cooker.  It was about 12:30 when it was ready.  I also wrapped a sweet potato in foil and put it in the slow cooker.

All of our kids called their mother, except Malissa.  She called yesterday.  I watered the plants in house five.  I shut off the water and then shut the door.  I will go a little below freezing during the night.  I brought into the hanging baskets.  It is raining.  I also brought in the heavy cactus plant.

Irrigated Today

Our water turn started today at seven, that was what we were told.  I ate breakfast and put the last large piece of egg on toast into my mouth and was then in the truck up to the ditch.   Chuck, the water master, pulled in front of me and beat me to the ditch.  It was about ten minutes before the water was in our ditch.  I let the dirty water run into our neighbor's ditch until most of the junk had left the pipe.  I go up to the head ditch and let the water run down the Deardon ditch.  Back to our neighbor's ditch and capped it.

Now we were getting all of the water.  The above photo shows our ditch with relative clear water.  I had to back to the head ditch quite a few times to remove the leave, cones, sticks and other junk that was caught by the screens.  I started irrigating the east lawn and the west lawn at the same time.  I watered west of the front sidewalk then the back lawn.  I took a short break for lunch.  I finished our yard at 2:30.  I set down on a lawn chair several times to rest.
I cut the seed heads off the rhubarb.
I unscrewed the cap on this four-inch pipe that let the water into our neighbor's yard.
I put away all of the pipes until our next water turn which may be in two weeks.   We then went to the Fillmore market for groceries.

First Irrigation

Carol got a call this morning from Chuck, the water master, telling us that we will get our water turn at seven in the morning.  I was getting the mail when he called.

I put the water pipes out so it will be ready for the morning.  I put the charger on the truck so I could start it and drive up to the irrigation ditch.  I left the charger on for over two hours.  I went up to the ditch and cleaned all of the weeds that I cut a couple of days ago.
The pipes were in the weeds.  I cut them away.
This is how it looked after I cut the weeds in the orchard.  The white pipes are visiable on the right side of the photo.
The watermelon seeds are beginning to germinate.
The Peaches and Cream sweet corn is coming up.

Payson Temple

It was a little after eight, when we started for Payson.  The roads were good and not much traffic.  We were a quite early and were able to get on the 9:40 session.  It was a good session.   We were to meet Lisa at 1:30. We called her and would meet her at Robert's house.  We went to Sam's and got a good supply off cat food and other things.  We then drove to Robert's house.  Holden, Megan, and their boys were staying at Roberts house.  I knocked on the door and not answer.  I rang the doorbell on the south side ot their house.   I left a grocery bag of mail for Richard.  We went around to the back of the house.  Holden and family came out the back door.   I took the following pictures.

Lisa finally got there, and she gave Carol her Mother's Day presents.  One was from Melissa and Derek.  One the way home we stoppped  at Wendy's for hamburger, fries, and two drinks.
When we got home, I hung the two baskets on the front porch.
Sweet corn is coming up.  There are little spikes of green.

I pricked a little bit more asparagus.

Cleaned Ditch

After breakfast I put on a jacket and opened the east doors to house five.  Soon after that, we went to the post office and on to Fillmore.  Carol bought some birthday cards for the relatives who hat birthdays in May.  We then bought a few groceries at the Fillmore Market.   I had a couple of questions for Dan Speakman about the little bedroom computer.  We then came home.  We then watched the Waltons.  It is a TV show that we watch almost every day.  That is Monday through Friday.   When that was over, we had lunch.  I tried to start the truck, but the battery was dead.  I put the weed eater in the car trunk and drove to the main ditch.

This is how the ditch looked.  Tall grass and weeds and sticks and branches on the south end of the ditch.  I cut the weeds and grass and removed the branches.  It took me and hour to finish.
This is the ditch after I finished.  The weed eater battery went dead just as I finished.   I then went home and watched another TV show called, "Highway to Heaven."
I watered the plants in house five.  The geraniums growing in the Palm tree are really pretty.
I cut another bunch of asparagus.  They are in a quart bottle waiting for another day.  This may be the last cuttings.
It was a little after six.  I drove over to TJ's shop to see if he would come and get the sprayer.  He was in his garage working on a four-wheeler.  He said that he could do it now.  He followed me home in his truck.  The sprayer tongue would not fit the hitch of his truck.  He tied it down with some rope and pulled it home.
Close-up.  He was quite a way up the road before I thought about a picture.  I got two fast ones.  They turned out a lot better than I expected.

Monday & Tuesday

I forgot to write Monday morning.  So, I have two days on the same posting.   I did a lot of weed eating today.   I think that I charged the weed eater battery twice.

This first photo shows one of the patches off weeds.  This is north of greenhouse three next to the road.
I need to fix the little bedroom computer and printer.  I loaded it into the car and drove to Fillmore to have Dan Speakman fix it.  I left the and did some shopping at the Fillmore Market.  The last item on my list was a treat for Carol.  I didn't know what she would like.   There were several of our friends.  I asked them what Carol might like.  I ended up buying a package of Oriol cookies.
Shane England and his girl friend were at the nursery when I for home.  I grabbed his mail and took it out to him.  They found a bunch of kittens.  Midnight, their mother had them in house five.  There were five kittens. Three were orange and two were darker.  I got the above picture.  They were in an empty root control bag.  I took it in the house and showed Carol.  Should have got the picture them, but I later took the picture of the under the table.

Monday afternoon, Carol and I went for a little ride through Holden.   We took the garbage to the dump.
I cut more weeds.  The is on the west side of greenhouse five.  It also shows the west end of greenhouse six.
I got a lot of weeds in the dry landscape.  There is an old plow on the right side of the photo,
I got the little bedroom computer and got it all set up.  I had to call Dan several times before I got it all set up.  Everything was good except when it came to printing.  I got the above message.
More trimming the tall grassy weeds.
I trimmed between the brush and Rabbit brush and around yuccas.
I trimmed on the north side of house two and three.  It was here when the battery died.

The Sabbath

We went to bed quite late last night.  I tuned off my alarm light and slept in a little bit.  I messed around with my laptop computer.   The first Sunday of the month is fast Sunday and today is the first day of May.  Instead of breakfast, we watched an hour-long Tyler and Tayler video.  We learned much about the Old Testament tabernacle.  It was soon time to go to the sacrament meeting.  There was a baby blessing.  It took almost two rows of benches to sit family members and friends.  The Sunday school class was good.

We came home to a good dinner.  We had a frozen casserole and fresh asparagus and Jello.

Early this afternoon I watered the plants in house five.  Everything looks good except these celebrity tomato plants.  Those on the left are not looking very well.  Those on the right look healthy.  It rained a little and a little later it rained some more.
