I was out in the garden fairly early this morning.  Yesterday I took my laptop to have some problems fixed.  I picked it up this afternoon and all of the previous problems seemed to be fixed.

As I write this evening I haven't been able to find the photos that I took today.





I walked out to the nursery.  Shane was finished with the tiller.  I brought to the garden, but it wasn't until this afternoon that I made a row for more tomatoes.

Put in four posts for the cucumber plants.  One cucumber plant will be planted on the east side of the post.  That will be four plants.  The will be trained to follow a horizontal wire about eighteen inches above the ground in both directions.

 I Made new row for hanging tomato plants.  I have a plan to prop up two long black pipes on top an eight foot post.  I can hang a trellis twine to the top of it and have on every eighteen inches.

Sunday/Mother"s Day

We had a good Sunday/Mother's day.  All of our children have called.  April Johnson also called.  That really pleased us.  Robert and Jeanne came an had a Sunday Dinner.  We had a nice visit.  I showed Robert around the yard.

This Darcenia was in greenhouse six for a while.  We then put it on the west end of greenhouse five.  This afternoon we put in back on the front lawn.  Robert dug the hole a little deeper.  It didn't stand straight.  Then he dug the north side of the hole a little deeper.  We put it in the hole and back filled with the soil.    It is looking pretty good.

Saturday and Wood Working Shows

I walked out to the garden.  Deer have been walking through the garden.  I could see fresh tracks in the wet soil.

They some of the cabbage and broccoli plants.  I circled their location.

I put a large welded wire piece on top of four blocks which should offer some protection.

I dug out a lot of weeds and weedy shrub.

The irrigation water did not get on a high spot.  I put the hose there and turned on the water.  I forgot about it and it ran for nearly four hours.

The peonies were getting dry.  I started the water and it ran for the same amount of time.

I did a lot of weeding in the garden.  I hope to make a weed free area and then make it larger through out the summer.

Friday Trip to the Market

We drove to Fillmore for some groceries and to make a deposit.  We wore our new face masks at the market.  They are a way lot more comfortable than the other masks that Lisa brought us.  It was pretty cool this morning.  The forecast for early was close to freezing.  I didn't want to take any chances on any plant damage.  I started water running down the rows in the garden.  The running water is warmer than the air.

I covered the pomegranate to protect the tender buds and blossoms.

The two grape plants that I planted yesterday were really wilted this morning.

I don't think it was stress of the transplanting, but the cold night and morning

 I covered them with the small wire basket and burlap.

I then put another piece of burlap on top of both of them.

I laid the shrub down and covered it with two blankets.

This morning I removed the two blankets and stood the shrub back up.  I put the short guy wires back.

Later in the morning I set up the three basket trellis.  One row of tomato plants are put in place.

I was working in the garage and Carol was at the post office.  Carol Masner opened the side door to the garage door.  I came out and she said that the plants are in the kitchen.  There are two baskets.  We placed them on stools.  One in the living room and

Other in the living room.

The poly is off house six.  They are getting ready for planting new hemp plants.

I found a tomato growing which I named it Cherry Banana.  I took some cuttings and hope that they will roots.

There are a bunch of Box Elder maple tree growing in the yard.  I cut all of them down and painted round-up on the stump.  Some are small.  I loaded them into the truck.

Clean-up & Prepared for Frost

A little bit of news and I went out side to put all of the irrigation pipes away.

The poly on house six was remove yesterday.   It was unhooked on the north side and pulled off and down on the south side.

The pipes are stored west of the hen house just off the edge of the lawn.

These long pipes are stored in the orchard.

The poly is removed from house four.   All of the plants have been harvested.

I got a pretty good photo of the amaryllis that is in the kitchen.

Yesterday, Lisa was here and gave us a bunch of stuff which included two bags of Dahlia bulbs.   We spent most of the morning planting them west of the driveway.

 I don't know why I took this picture.  We did consider planting dahlias in the kidney.  On the left is the pomegranate.

Most of the dahlia bulbs were of poor quality.  Stems were long and some bulbs were nearly ready to fall off.

Here we are finished and have the water running in the drip line.  We dug away most of the phlox.

One more fall baring raspberry plants.  It is much smaller than the one dug yesterday.  I dug this one up much faster.

I made the hole next to the other raspberry plant.  I brought this one on the shovel.

The hole wasn't large enough so I dug it deeper.

I put it in the hole.  Some of the soil broke away from the root  ball.  I quickly watered it.  It looks like it will be okay.

Our Russian Sage is full of mostly dead stems.  I cut them all out and hope that will begin to come up with new stems.

We are expecting freezing temperatures early in the morning.  I pulled up the stakes the held the guy wires and laid down the pomegranate bush.  I then covered it with two blankets.  It is loaded with pomegranates and blossoms.

Andy and Dusty Bray were riding their bikes.  They stopped and had a nice visit.  He wants some large trees at his shop at McCormick.

I planted two grape vines that were in the garage all winter.  I planted them at the west end of the grape row.

Day of Irrigation

It is our turn for irrigation water.  We were to get it at seven this morning.  I had lot pipe out from last night and the shovels and rakes in the truck.  I drove up to the head of the ditch and our water was there.  I put in the gate to stop the water from running west and turned it in our direction.

I didn't get any photos until a little latter in the morning.  

About three feet west of house six this evening primrose is in full bloom.  It is one tough plant.  It has been walked on abused for years.  The bloom doesn't last long and wouldn't be noticed.   There are a bunch of irrigation pictures.   They are not in any particular sequence. 

This one if felt very interesting.  It is a sewer pipe with holes on both sides.  The water came from the bottom and went up a slight incline.   The water came out the holes on either side.

This comes brings water from the main pipe down the east side of the house.  It hooks to the sewer pipe above.

This picture shows the water coming from the main ditch which start at the base of the at the end.

This pipe brings water from the main pipe and ends by the raspberry plants.

This is on the north side of the house. With different pipe lengths and 45 and 90 degree ells. I can take the water at different places on the lawn.   The pipes crossed the side walk and delivered the water east of the sidewalk.

The vegetable plants are doing well and I hope to plant them in the garden by next week.

I finished my turn and turned the water down to the Stephenson's next door.  The water was running muddy and by the time I got my smart phone to snap a picture it was running clear.

Diana  and her friend stopped by for a visit a little after lunch.  Robert, Frank Williams and Diana helped with the Farmer's Market and other vendors three or four years ago.  I haven't seen Diana since then.

Lisa and Emi came this afternoon.  Lisa brought us some groceries and other things.   She also brought a Mother's day present for Carol.  She took photos that we have been saving for years with her.  She also took those belonging to April and Melissa.
