Super Quick Trip to Provo

We left at eight this morning for Payson Walmart, Provo Sam's Club, and Provo Home depot.

The first picture was taken yesterday, Sunday.   At six Saturday morning I had a water turn.  It was just getting light and I turned on the truck lights.   I didn't turn off the lights completely.  The battery was completely drained.  I put on the battery charger for about four hours.  I started the truck and drove around the block and then parked it in the shade under the Linden tree

This morning I glued a short two inch PVC to the main irrigation pipe.  When we irrigate the next time I can take off the cap and run water to the orchard.    I decided to take pictures of each town that we drove through on the way to Provo.

  The first picture was taken as we left Holden.   It is he gas station on the right side of the road.

Church at Home

After breakfast I walked out to the garden.  I drained the pipe from yesterday irrigation.  I then drained the pipe that waters the back yard lawn. 

We had our sacrament service.  When that was over we watched the video featuring Alma the younger counseling his four sons.  The second video that we watched featured two men discussing the teachings of Alma.  Mosiah:11-17

We drove to Fillmore to have our recommends signed by a member of the stake presidency.

Day of Irrigation

Our water turn started a six this morning.   I was up early and showered.  I had a little time to read from the Book of Mormon.   I turned the water down our ditch.  It went pretty good.  I was able to rake out the leaves.

 I walked onto the back lawn and saw the deer.  I walked further back and got the above photo.  There were six deer.  Three jumped over the fence to the west and three went over the fence to the south.  They soon disappeared. 

There were times that I had water running on the east, south, and west lawns all at the same time.  I would walk from place to place moving pipes.   I did this from six this morning until one this afternoon.  I had a short break for breakfast which Carol prepared.

I turned the water down to Raymond at one.   Later we went to Fillmore to get a hanging basket and some geraniums.  Fillmore IFA didn't have what we wanted.

 When we got back, I put all the pipes away.  I store them on the far edge of each lawn.  Above is the storage on the west lawn.

I have noticed that something has been eating some of the leaves of red beets.  I was watering the raised beds and one of the hens jumped up on it and began eating.

The hen on the right is the guiltily one.

Cutting Grass

This morning we went to the Fillmore Market.  On the way we left the shredder tires at Steve's Tires to have them fixed.  Both tubes leaked.

When we got home I got the weed whip, filled up the fuel tank, and then gave the crank rope a couple of pulls.  I primed the carburetor  and it started right up.  I trimmed grass around trees,  the edges of the lawn, and the driveway edge.  I then began to mow the lawn.

The grass was really tall.  I filled up the grass catcher before I made it all away around the yard.  I dumped about four times.

I dumbed all of the loads around the irises.

 

Wade Lemon came over for more Golden Current bushes.  We found a dozen or so east of house five.  We filled up his truck.  He took them home and was going to come back for the rest of them, but he didn't make. 

Each time I walk out to the greenhouse, things have changed.   Large hemp plants are planted  all over.

I think that the plants are staged on a sixteen foot bench.

After lunch I filled up my back pack sprayer with a Round-up type of weed killer.  I drove the truck up to the head ditch and sprayed the bottom and sides of the ditch.  When I finished that I spray the weeds between the sidewalk and the ditch.

Benches at the Fillmore IFA  has some clever benches made out of good quality pallets.  There are not many bedding plants left.

I put the tires on the shredder back on the shredder.  It was much easier to push the shredder back into the shed.

This photo shows the newly mowed lawn and some of the pipes for the water that we are getting in the morning.

This is a screen I put in front of the pipe to keep out the leaves and sticks.  It takes the water into our yard.  It was used in a bucket of paint.  There are two hooks than hangs on the inside edge of a bucket.  The paint roller is rolled against the screen to remove excess paint.

 The truck is full  of branches.   I took branches to landfill and emptied the truck.

Weeding

I walked along the row of Green Arrow peas.  I found a bloom.  There should be more to come.  They are pretty thick, and I water them every other day. 

Yesterday I noticed some large yellow mustard plants.   This morning while most of it was in the shade I started cutting out all the weeds.  There are about three rows of weeds with other weeds close by.

I dug and cut them and then raked them into two rows.  I use a pitch fork and a broom rake.

I piled the weeds on a square piece of burlap.  I put the yellow mustard weeds on the burlap.  I wanted to get them out of the garden.  When the seed pods dry, they break apart and scatter seeds all over.  I put them in a weed pile north of the north garden. 

Here is how it looked when I finished this afternoon.  On the right side of the photo an asparagus plant is growing.

While I was cutting weeds, I had a sprinkler running where the strawberry plants were growing last year.

A couple of bush beans are coming up in the bell of straw.  This morning there was a cluster of mushroom poking up. 

A couple of weeks ago I found this small Elder Berry plant.  It looked really dry.  I built a small dike around it and filled it with water two different times.  Still not looking healthy.

There is a lot of rhubarb in the garden now.  I cut these stems and pulled

these radishes.  The radishes are not that large. 

 Shane and his crew removed all of the weed barrier in house four.  I thought that they were going to throw it away.  I pulled onto the lawn.

I laid it flat on the lawn and put it upside down to remove all of the soil.  I then folded each one up.

I used rusty steel pipes to hold it in place while I folded them up.  It worked really well.

I tied each into a bundle.

 and took them out to the shed.  The shed is to full so I piled them up against the east wall of the shel

Shane had some hemp friends that visited for a while.  The guys are planting the hemp plants on the north side of house four.

The drip lines are down for house two.  The small plants are planted between the pair of drip lines.

 House one has been tilled and it is ready for the installing of the drip lions.

Planted More Tomatoes

I started work in the garden.  I thought I would get a lot done, but had too many interruptions.  Just before lunch we drove to Fillmore where we had two prescriptions filled.  Everyone in the Drug store wore masks.   We went to Fillmore and back in us less than an hour.

I planted a row of tomato plants.  The first three are Cherry Banana.  The next ones are Juliet, and the last four are Cherry Banana

When finished I started the water running down the row.

I made four holes for the Burpless Cucumbers.   Then I put two handfuls of horse pellets in each hole.   Then I put a plant in the hole and backfilled around it.

I have a lot of Burpless cucumber.  I planted four in this row.   There are three plants in each hill.  The were easy to remove from the six pack.  I plan to build a horizontal trellis with tie wire.  Each row will be about sixteen inches above the bottom row.  There may be six rows.  I haven't tried it this way.

The tires on this cart were both flat.  I filled them with air and was able get the trays.

There were a stack of 1020 trays and another stack of 1206 trays.  I took them to the shed to get them out of the hot greenhouse.  The heat melts the trays some.

Shane and his crew are preparing house two for planting a new crop of hemp.

We boxed up more photos and mailed them to different family members.

We had three boxes and three large envelops.  Carol is counting the money.  It wasn't all that expensive.

This evening, Carol and I met with members of the Bishopric and got new temple recommends.
