Cucumbers

As soon as breakfast was over I picked all of the cucumbers,  There was a lot more than I thought that there would be.  I put the bucket in the sink and washed them.  There were many of them that where laying in the soil and had a lot of mud on them,  I took them to the post office.  When I checked this evening there was only a few left.   I dug a lot of weeds in the garden.

I then watched my 10'Clock TV show that I try to watch every week day.  I watered the geraniums and most of the front lawn and most of the east lawn.

I just got a call from Tony Dearden.  I could get the water in the morning, but we are going to the Payson temple at eight in the morning.  The water master hasn't ever called me. I watered every thing with the hose in the garden today.  Some was just as it was getting dark.

Tuesday Mowing

As soon as breakfast was over I intended to cut down corn stalks, I walked through the Blue Lake pole beans and there were a lot of beans.  I got a container that was in the garage and began to pick.  It took me awhile, but I got a nice batch of beans.

I took them in the house were Carol washed them and began to snap the beans and put them in pint bottles.
This yellow dahlia is on a stem on the front porch.  It has been pretty most of the summer.
I mowed the lawn and was finished by noon.  I dumped the grass on weeds in the garden.
The south lawn.
The east lawn.
And the front lawn.
I finished eating the watermelon and gave what was left over to the chickens.
Carol got five pints of beans.  It is quite a process canning bean. The bottles are put in a pressure cooker. The steam has to escape before timing is started.  The pressure goes down as it cools.  Then it is safe to remove the bottles.
This evening just before dark I got a picture of Tiger eating some cat food.  The yellow cat beats up Tiger. She feels safe in the cat house. We watched TV until we went to bed.

Mowing

I had a good rest last night.  I was up early enough to read the next chapter before the morning news in the Book of Mormon, I made a batch of old fashion oatmeal mush.  I fed the cats. After breakfast I started up the lawnmower and began to mow the weeds next to the street that is in front of our house.  I took of the grass catching bags and let the weeds blow out on the ground.

I ran out of gas.  I had some gas in the gas can. It was time for the TV show that I watch each morning. I also mowed both sides of the driveway east and west.  It makes our street look much better.  After the TV show I drove to Fillmore to fix my new cell phone, Dan said that he could not get it working.  I got a few groceries and then came home.
The zucchini plants are doing really well.  We will soon have lots of zucchini.

This cactus plant has finally blossomed after years of doing nothing.  The flower only last for a day.   We watched TV until we went to bed.

Saturday

After breakfast this Saturday morning, I watched three woodworking shows starting at eight.  Later I watered the plants in the garden.  I finished about 11:30 and watched some TV until lunchtime.  I had a hot dog wrapped in a piece of bread.  I dug up a lot of sweet corn plants where all of the corncobs were harvested.  I picked four ears of sweet corn.  We also had that for lunch.

There are several purple seedless grape vines that were loaded with fruit.  Some of the grapes were quite sweet.  I cut grape clusters and took them in the house where I ate them.

A Quick Trip

I was after breakfast and a little after eight when we made a quick trip to Provo.  We were out of a lot of things that we needed.   Several different soaps, several paper products, and a few groceries.  The trip was uneventful with some road construction that did not slow us down. There were a lot of sunflowers along the road and many in the fields.  We drove into the Sam's Club parking lot.  We park in the handy-capped parking spaces. The were not many customers in the store.  We quickly got out things, checked out and loaded them in the car.  We got gas at Costco and then drove to the Payson Walmart store.  Carol bought a few gifts for her friends' birthday.  I bought me a new cell phone.  I was there for quite a while getting it and a few other things.

I got a house plant, Golden Hotpas.  It does well in the house in the shade.  I went the self-check-out register.  I made a mistake and paid for two.  The lady there was not at all helpful, in fact she was somewhat rude.   I had to go to the service desk when the cost extra was credited back to my credit card.  It was time for lunch.  We went to Wendys and bought hamburgers, fries, and drinks. I found four little packs of catchup for the fries.  I worked most of the afternoon trying to get my cell phone    to work.  I called then help number and I couldn't understand the questions that the nonperson asked me.  I tried to text to a person.  That didn't work either.  I finally figured out the password for my phone that didn't work either.  Carol suggested that someone in our family could help me.

Three Days

Three days of photos posted 24 August.  I got busy working in the garden, going to the dermatologist. and helping Carol make elderberry jelly.

Twelve half pints jars of elderberry jelly. I spent several hours on the phone with Dan Speakman to get the printer working, I was then able to print labels for each jar.
The hummingbirds are drinking the sugar water almost as fast as we can refill the jars.
This photo shows several hummingbirds drinking from this heavy glass feeder.
I saw these desert 4 0'clocks in full bloom one morning.
I had to water the chickens in greenhouse five several times during the last three days.
We have just finished cooking the elderberry juice.  We had to steam the berries for an hour to get all of the juice.  Carol put the bottles in a water bath for five minutes.  Carol tightens the lids.
A beautiful dahlia flower.  It is in a pot on the front step.

Elderberry Juice

I was up at six this morning which gave me time to read another chapter in the Book of Mormon.  I watered all of the inside plants and was able to watch the morning news.  It rained some during the night.

Our kitten, scamp was resting in a tote contained some of my garden tools. It seemed odd that she was able to be comfortable there.  I harvested all of the elderberries.  There was a lot of them.
We put them in the steamer and ended up with two quarts of elderberry juice, we drove to Fillmore and bought some pecten to turn the elderberry juice in jelly.  We also bought other groceries.
The hummingbirds emptied both feeders.
This one is on the left side of the porch.  There was hummingbird near the feeder when I took the picture, but i can't see it in the above photo.
I dug some potatoes.  It was pretty muddy, and it took me quite a while to clean all of them.  I also dug one of the big onions.  Carol pealed the potatoes and sliced the onion.  She shredded the potatoes and fried them all.  It was really good.  I went to sleep watching TV.  I think that I slept for over an hour.  It rained some during the day, Or I should say it sprinkled a little all day.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Mowed Lawn

I was up early enough to read another chapter in the Book of Mormon.  My Saturday morning woodworking shows were pretty boring.  Those on the show talked about the wonderful things that they have done.   Instead of watching them, I mowed the lawns.

I dumped the bags in the garden, I tried to cover the weeds with the clippings.  I finished mowing and was able to do all of the trimming with the weed eater.  I did all of this before lunch.
I went to gather the eggs and found the yellow jacket nest inside the garage greenhouse.  The was one yellow jacket at the top of the photo.
The hibiscuses are beginning to bloom.
I took two ears of old corn to the chickens in the hen house. The chickens went right to work eating the corn.  I some to the chickens in greenhouse six. The chickens there didn't seem to know what to do with it.  Some pecked at it a little.
I watered all of the plants in the gardens except for the onions.  I decided that the onions don't need to be watered be watered any more.  I dug out a lot of the corn stalks that didn't have any ears as shown in the above photo. Carol and I went for a ride around the town.   Scamp, the kitten, was missing.  I saw her go into the thick rose bushes on the west side of the north garden.  The mother cat was there, and I saw Dusty, a big cat that we used to have. I fed the cats, and the mother cat came to eat.  The kitten also came out.  We gave another treatment to her eye.  We had omelets for supper.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Fixed Leak

I was up early enough to read the next chapter in the Book of Mormon.  The heavy east hummingbird feeder was empty.  I got it and Carol filled it with sugar water.  It was easy to do.  I hung it back up and the hummingbirds started to drink.  The west feed was quite full.  Carol wanted to wash it and refill it with the sugar water.  We then had breakfast.  After breakfast I picked four ears of sweet corn.  They looked like they weren't ready.  I brought them in the house.  Carol washed them an put them in the fridge.  We would have them for supper, I watched my channel 44 Matlock program.  After that I picked up the mail at the post office.

The chickens in house six were looking good.  We had pizza for lunch.
After lunch I dead headed the dahlias and pulled and dug weeds.  That took about an hour.
The mother cat and scamp were in the box together much of the day.  We drove to Fillmore for lay pellets for the chickens. We also bought some medicine to treat our kitten's eyes.  We treated the kitten as soon as we got home.  We stopped at Roper's for a ball valve to fix the leak.  We bought some needed groceries at the Fillmore Market.  We then went home; I fed the cats and then fixed the leak.
The new part is the ball valve with the blue handle. I all went together without much difficulty.  There was a lot of water on the ground around it.  The last time I checked it, it was still muddy, but the water was gone, there is a small hen outside. I looked all over for it and can't find it. We gave the kitten another eye treatment.  I turned on the water for the back lawn.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Monday/Tuesday

I was up early enough to read a chapter from the Book of Mormon.  The heavy glass hummingbird feeder was empty. Carol wanted me to bring it in where she would fill it with sugar water.  I tried to hang it up, but the wire was a bent out of shape.  The feeder looked like it would fall. I found a new wire in the garage.  It was a heavy-duty wire that I bent into shape.  It worked.  I was able to hang it up.  It was almost seven thirty when I started breakfast.  I missed most of the news on channel five.  I dug weeds until it was time for Matlock. I watched it and then watered the plants in both gardens.  After lunch, I pruned one of the small lilac bushes.

I watered all of the geraniums in the front yard. I also watered a few dry spots in the front and back yard. The above photo is the back yard.   The Swanie guy broght us some ice cream.
The plant in front of the back door in the family room is dead. I took it out cleaned the floor underneath the plant.  I then vacuumed the floor.  This evening I captured the two swarms of yellow jackets that were in the garden.

I put my hand in two plastic shopping bags. I then was able to get them without getting stung.  It was dark when I did it.  We watched TV until we went to bed.

Sunday

Carol was too tired to go to church this morning. I went and was sitting on my bench alone.  There were a few more people came and set on my bench.

After the sacrament was past the was a speaker, He was a member of the High Council.  I stayed awake for the first part of his talk. I fell asleep and woke up as he concluded his talk.  After the closing prayer, I got the Chapel ready for priesthood meeting.  The person giving the lesson was hard for me to follow and understand.  There was still fifteen minutes left when he ended the lesson. Maybe the good thing was that I got home fifteen minutes earlier.  Carol had dinner ready.  We watched channel eleven programing and watched it most of the afternoon.  This morning I found three dead chickens in house six.  I went back after supper and picked them up.  The mother hen, and two of her large chicks were dead.  I took a picture and them burried them in the row of potatoes.  After supper we watched TV until we went to bed.

Family Time

11 August 2023 Friday

Lisa, Eric and Emi Gray stayed with us all night.  It was about seven this evening when they got here.  As usual Lisa brought a ton of food.  Eric cooked some huge hot dogs on the grill on the patio.  There were some huge buns.  They also had all of the condiments that went with them.  After supper we watched some TV.  They went to bed and Carol, and I went to bed a little later.

These photos are from Saturday 12 August 2023.

It was still light when Richard got here. He bought a new tent.  He and Eric Gray put the tent together.  Richard had a Cot to sleep on it.
I picked all of the cucumbers.  Some were pretty dirty.  I washed them on the backyard with a bucket of water.
Richard cooked breakfast on the patio.  We got out the cushions and put them on the patio chairs. After he cooked breakfast, we ate while on the patio.
There is a small table.  Lisa washed both sides.  I got busy eating and forgot to take pictures.
There is a yellow jacket or hornet nest in the tree.
I got a photo of Richard under the tree where the hornet nest was found.
Here is another photo of the hornet nest.  When it got dark Richard and I put the nest into two plastic shopping bags.  He sprayed it with WD40.
Robert was cutting off some branches off the tree.  The chain came off the saw.  He is putting it back on.
We drove to Delta for the golfing party.  This is a photo of Eric Gray and April.
