Cardiologist

I skipped breakfast this morning.  I am going to Orem to see my cardiologist, Dr Charles Dahl.  We were there plenty early and had a long wait at the waiting room.  People came and went and finally it was my turn.  The visit went well and I got a good report.  We were to meet our daughter, Lisa.  Soon as we got back to the car, I called her.  She was there and drove her car right in front of us.  We then followed her to a place for lunch.

I picked all of the peppers yesterday afternoon.  And this morning I took them to the post office.
On the way to the post office I saw two large doe and three small deer.  They were in front of Richard Darnell's house.  I stopped and took this picture.  It was about 9:30 when we left for Orem.  We followed Lisa in her convertible to the place where we ate.  I had a mushroom and beef and cheese sandwich.  It was one of the best one that I have ever eaten.
We stopped for a red light.  Lisa was stopped in front of us where I took this photo.
After we finished eating and before we left the parking lot, I took this selfie.  We were going to do some shopping, but Carol had s stomachache so we came straight home.
We stopped at Cost cos for gas.  Then home we went.
When we got home,  I opened the doors to greenhouse five.  I then checked for any frost damage.  The only damage was the watermelon and scrimshaw melons that were not covered.  I picked one of the watermelons that wasn't covered.  It was a little pink.  I cut it open and ate a little bit of it.  It took the rest to the compost pile.

Picking the Garden

It rained some during the night and everything outside was wet.  As soon as breakfast was over I began picking the Blue Lake Pole beans  in the cattle panel hoop.  I kept shaking the panels to get off the rain water.  I picked a bucket full.

Karen Bennett needed some.  She was making some ketchup.  I too the two buckets to her.
I picked the zucchini plants and took them to the post office.  Some people in this town like the freshly picked zucchini.
The rain softened the ground some.  I dug up three hills of potatoes.  The ground was soft for about five inches.
Our neighbors to the north of us have two dogs.  They were loose and come over to our place.  They chased the cats up the trees.
The two dogs are barely visible behind some shrubs.  The lady that lives there came over to get the dogs.  She told them to go home, but they didn't.  She apologized.  We had a short visit.  She then said they won't go home unless she went with.  She then left with her dogs.
I took some plants to greenhouse five to protect them from freeze.  I can't turn on the furnace because the gas is turned off.  The valve is circled.
I covered the topaz melons with black weed barrier to protect them from the frost.
Here I covered the watermelons and scrimshaw melons.
The celebrity tomato plants are covered here with a double layer of frost protection fabric.
The two lemon plants and the pomegranate bush in house five.
I picked all of the Blue Lake bush beans.
I picked a two buckets of apples.  These we will turn into apple sauce.

Linden, Grapes, Juice, Temple

Monday

This morning after breakfast I picked some zucchini and cucumbers,   We took some to the post office and then on to Linden.  We stopped at the Payson Wal Mart and go a bunch of items which included cat food, paper products, and a couple of toys.   We then went to Linden and got a small basket of grapes,  and two large boxes of grapes.

I didn't get any photos while at Nyleen and Mile's place of the grapes that they gave us.  We started home on highway 190 which went through Orem's beautiful street landscape.  I took the picture after we passed through most of it.
As soon as we got home we started to juice the grapes.  Above is a photo two piles of washed grapes.  We steamed batches of grapes.
As soon as they were steamed, we put them into quart bottles.   At the end of the day,, which was about 10:30 we had twenty-eight quarts of juice.  We are going to the temple early in the morning.  We went right to bed.
On the left is a canner where we can process seven quarts at a time.  On the right a batch of grapes are being steams.  The juice comes down the yellowish tube.  We release the clamp to direct into the bottle.
This is a bucket with grapes from our own grape vines.

Tuesday

We were up early for the temple.  We left home at 9:15, picked up Ann, our neighbor.  We had a good experience at the temple.  After we finished at the temple, we went to Barton home for lunch.  There were a lot of temple workers and their spouses there.  We had a dinner of hamburger and buns with several salads and deserts on the side.  The Barton's have a beautiful landscaped yard.  I took pictures of the yard and people there.
A waterfall with water running all of the time.
On the left is a guest house.  On the right is the lawn between the guest house and the Barton home.  At the back is the east fence.  The yard is surrounded be the same fence.
Here is the hamburger paddies being cooked.
The buffet is being prepared.
The guest house.

Grapes Again

We decided to freeze more grapes.  We found a little room in the freezer in the garage.

I picked a bucketful frin the south side of the hen house.  There were a lot of grapes there but there were a lot of vines crossing back and forth.  I had to cut the vines away before I could get at the grapes.  The above photo is how the vines looked after I cut them away.
Carol washed the grapes and we then pulled the grapes from the stem.  On the right of the above picture was the grape clusters.  On the right is where I put the grapes.
We put them on cookie sheets.
We went to the Revere Health center.  The nurse checked our Fillmore market for some groceries.  We got some small batteries for the one touch glucose tester.  It works.
These are the grapes that were left over.  I put them on a news paper to remove all of the water.  Later I put them into a small dish.  Ann Stephenson came over for a short visit.  She saw our cookie sheets of frozen grapes.  I asked her if she would like some.  I then picked her a bucketful.  I picked them from the south end of the grape vines.
I didn't catch anything in the tube skunk trap.  I baited the trap last night with a can half full of soft cat food.  This morning the can was gone and sitting on the driveway.   Cloyce came over.  He brought a new trap that he had built which was a better trap.  He took back the older trap. I brought the live trap to see if could catch anything in this trap,

It was about 8:30 When I baited the trap with partially opened can of soft cat food and I set the trap.  We will see if we catch a skunk.

Squash Bugs

This morning I picked beans again.  Instead of bucket of beans, I got only a half bucket.

Carol found a home for them.  Our neighbor, Ann Stephenson, wanted them.

I worked in the garden for nearly one and one half hours digging the puncture weeds.  I put them in the garbage.    We went to Fillmore for a few groceries.
One of the zucchini plants is loaded with squash bugs.  I washed them off with the garden hose.   I harvested four zucchinis and took them to the post office.
The giant sequoia tree is growing in or garden.  It is not a giant yet, but will get much taller.  It is fifteen to twenty feet tall.

I baited the skunk trap with a half can of soft cat food.

Apple Sauce

After breakfast I got out the apple peeler.  Carol washed the apples and I peeled and Carol broke the peeled apples into pieces and put them in the pot to start cooking.

We cooked them until they were soft.  Which took about twenty minutes.
While they were cooking, I checked the skunk trap west of the garage.  I lifted it up by the handle and it felt pretty heavy because of a skunk that was inside.
Later I got a small flash light and shined it through a small hole in the lid.  It was empty, so opened the door and it was empty.
Now back to the kitchen.  We put the apple sauce into a shredder.  I turned it on and changed it from lumpy into a smooth sauce.
I picked the zucchini and took it to the post office.  There were other things there beside the zucchini that I took.
We got nine pint bottles.  Carol put them into a water bath for about twenty minutes.  We took a present for Leo Johnson, Holden's new son.  One of the bottles did not seal.  We ate it for supper.
I picked the rest of the peaches and set them on the counter nest to the stove.
I then moved them to the counter under the microwave.
