Mowed the Lawn

Soon after breakfast, I was removing all the garden hose off the lawn.  I remove chairs and other things that were in my way.  Next I went around with the weed eater and trimmed around trees, sidewalk, and bushes.  I added oil to the lawn mower and checked the gas tank.  It was about half full. I mowed the front, the east lawn, the back lawn and finished with the west lawn.

This is the first of four loads of grass clipping.  The grass on the front lawn was really tall.
I had a little corn in the garage fridge.  I shucked it all except one ear.  I think that it will keep for quite a long time in the fridge.
I dug the onions a couple of days ago.  Today, I cut off the tops and cleaned any dirt off the bulbs.  I put them in the above create.  A couple of the slats on the bottom broke loose on one end.  Some of the onions fell through
A good photo of the freshly mowed lawn with the flowers and shrubs.
Late this afternoon I watered the orchard.  Apples are looking great.  The above picture shows the sprinkler on the east apple tree.   I watered most of the garden.

We ate the last of the potatoes for super.  We pealed the rest of the potatoes.  Most were really small.  Carol shredded them and then fried them with two sliced onions from the garden.  Next week I will be digging some potatoes.

Corn

This morning I worked on my new tablet.  For some reason I got it working.  I could do email and a few other things.  But connecting to the internet was no good.   I didn't read from the Book of Mormon.  I fired up the tiller and made a new row for sweet corn, Jubilee Hybrid.  On my hands and knees, I would make a hole with one hand and with the other hand put in three kernels in the hole.  I made holes on each side of the row.

I then let the water run down the wide row.  The water is coming in at the bottom of the photo.
I went to the other end in front of the water and got the picture.
The other bush beans did not come up very well.  I made a row for the beans between the cucumbers and the corn I had just planted.
A couple of weeks ago I dug up the bindweed that was growing in the sweet potato bed.  They are coming back.  This afternoon I dug them up again.  The stems seemed to be a little thinner.
One of the hens flies into the garage greenhouse whenever the door is left open other that the wind blows open.  I made a latch to hold the upper door closed.

I dug up all most all of our onions.  The tops had bent over.  Not as many onions as last year.
Just before lunch I pulled the mallow weeds and the spurge weeds.  There were a few other weed verities that I don't know their names. The weeds that I pulled are on the concrete driveway.  There is a bear spot in the corner where nothing is growing.
Here is another sections of weeds.  The spurge has a zillion seeds.
I used a shovel to cut the weeds.  There is mallow, red roots, and spurge in these areas.
Carol came out and dead headed the geraniums.
The weeds are all dug in this area.

Quick Trip

We made a quick trip to Utah County.  We left Holden a little after nine.

Our first stop was at Walmart where Carol bought some toys and things for the annual family golfing in Delta.  I bought a small tablet.  I tried this afternoon when we got home to make it operate.  I couldn't do it.  I will call for help in the morning.

The next stop was at Sam's Club in Provo.  We bought things that we needed and the watermelon.  We then went to Nyleen's, but they were not home.
We visited Carol's brother for twenty minutes or so.  He had this beautiful hibiscus growing in his yard.
Here is one of the many hibiscus flower.  So pretty.  We stopped at Costco in Spanish Fork for gas.  We got two small hamburgers at Wendy's in Payson.  Then we came home.

Monday

After breakfast I put away all of the pipes.  Putting the three big pipes away was quite tiering.  I went into the house and rested some.  We drove to Fillmore for gasoline and a few groceries.  I worked in the garden.

I tied up the cucumbers again.  They grow fast and branch.
I thinned the peaches.  I had to get a small ladder to reach some of them.  I lost the picture of the other peach tree.
I pruned and tied up the tomato plants.  They are doing pretty good.
The Topaz melons are looking good..  They are branching and some have the male flowers.

Church/Irrigate

I was able to read from the Book of Mormon this morning.  Carol was up a little later.  We were scheduled to have a water turn this morning at seven.  I was up to the main ditch a little before seven.

Irrigation Prep

We have a water turn starting at seven in the morning.  As soon as breakfast was over  I drove to the head ditch.
The ditch was full of weeds.  Mainly it was grass.
I took my cordless weed eater and went to work.  I wasn't sure how long the battery would last, so I cut the weeds in the center of the ditch.  I then came back and cut the weeds on both sides of the ditch.

Across the road from the ditch is a field full of purple Cleome.  I took the picture against the sun.
The young men and young women from the ward brought out the flags.  Our is in the kidney with the gerttaniums.
We watched the parade.  There were a lot of cute floats.  They threw out pieces of candy.
When the parade was over they had a flag ceremony.

After the parade we made home-made ice cream which was really good.  We had several helpings.

I put pipes out to irrigate the east lawn.

Went After Goat Heads

I started this morning spraying weeds.  I filled the tank with Killzall, hoisted it to my back and went after the puncture weed.  I sprayed about a month ago and found dead plants.  I then found more from tiny to some that had long runners.   I sprayed all of them and a lot of spurge.  I filled the tank the second time and sprayed a lot of morning glory.

This is not very comfortable to wear, but after it is nearly half empty, it is not as bad.
The burpless cucumbers are growing fast and doing a lot of branching.  I tied them up and cut off the branches.  There are a lot of cucumbers coming on.  The one in the photo is about two inches long.

The hemp guys left on the water.  I watered the tubs and baskets but there was not any pressure.  All hemp fields were running.  I turned them all off.  It was about seven.  As soon as I got in the house the phone rang.  It was Justin calling.  He asked me to turn off the water.  I already did.

Pretty Flowers

It was dark when I got up this morning.  I put some clothes on and went out side and turned on a hose on the east lawn and a hose on the front lawn.  I planed on the forty-five minutes of the first turn.  I forgot to set my timer.  I don't know how long the run, but I am sure that it was more the forty-five.

After breakfast. I kept moving the hoses until the both lawns and the geraniums were watered.  The lawn close to the drive-way doesn't get well watered.  I put the sprinkler on low and move the hose up and down that edge.

There were mainly three different weeds in the dahlia garden.  Spurge,     and field bind weed.  I was on my hands and knees pulling them up.  I worked there for over an hour.  There was also some wild lettuce.   The flowers in the dahlia garden are really pretty.

The cone flowers are in the showy glory.
The cone flowers at a different angle.
Some of the photos were taken from the west side of the flower bed.
So pretty.
The last one is the dahlia.
There is a pretty Russian Sage in that same area.  The photo  does not give the plant justice.  It is much prettier than the photo.
This tomato plant and cage was blown over to the north by the wind.  I noticed it this morning.  I stood it up and  drove a short piece of conduit at the side and wired it to the cage.
I dug up a lot of morning glory.  This photo of pepper plants show how thick the weeds were.
This kohlrabi had split.  I dug it up and gave it to the chickens.  The ate of all of the leaves.
I dug this kohlrabi and took it into the house.   I might make coleslaw with it.

Cats and Kittens

After breakfast I began working in the garden.  It was mostly weeding.  There is a lot of morning glory by the pepper plants.  I dug a lot of them up and hope to keep them cultivated to eventually kill them off.  We made a quick trip to Fillmore for groceries.  Mainly things to make ice cream for the twenty-fourth of July which is Saturday.

One of several photos of the cats and kittens.
The orange kitten resting on top of Shadow, the gray cat through the screen door.
I went out side through the front door and quietly walked up to shadow and the orange kitten.
I got this picture through the the back storm door.  I had to hold my phone above the screen.
I dug up a bunch of allium bulbs.  I have a friend that wants some.  It is a little to early to dig.  I dig more towards the end of August.
I picked some sweet corn yesterday and some more today.  It really tasted good with a little salt and butter

I dug weeds during the day when the clouds hid the sun.
