More Surprises

We had strong winds for the last couple of days.  Yesterday, most of the plants in the garden were stressed.  The wind caused leaf dehydration fast than the plants could pull up water out of the soil.  This morning I began to water the garden.  But for some reason there was no water pressure.  I immediately walked out to the hemp plants.  There was water running in pads two, three, and four.
Pad two is in the photo above.  The dark areas is where the water accumulated.  The above photo was taken a couple of hours after I turned off the water.  It run most of yesterday and all night until I shut it off.
I removed this stump of a huge rose.  I hadn't planned to do it.  There were a lot of tall weeds in this area and it was hard to cut them with a shovel.  The stump was in the way.
I dug under the stump some, and put a heavy pipe lever under it and tried to lift it up.   I wouldn't move.  I pounded it with a heavy slug hammer.  I was able to break off some pieces.  I pounded it several different direction.  I went into the garage and got a Sawzall.  I was able to cut off a little bit more.  Next I got my corded chain saw.  I should have used it first, but I was afraid that I would dull the chain.  I carefully cut off the rest of the stump without getting getting the chain in the dirt.
When finished cleaning up, I covered the stump with soil.

I should have taken this picture yesterday when the wind had the west end of the corn was leaning to the north.  Today it is standing upright.
We had three lemon trees in nursery cans.  One did not survive the winter in the garage.  I threw that one away a couple of weeks ago.  The wind blew over the two survivors.  Carol wanted me to bury them in the ground where they can stand up in a stiff wind.  I pruned all of the dead branches.  That took me over an hour.  I re-dug the two holes put them in.
Here is a view looking west.  The nursery cans are about half way in the ground.
More tomatoes need to be hung on the above pipe.  The pipe isn't there yet.  I was able to do it faster than the last time.  I drilled the top hole in four pipes.  I then drilled the wholes in the eight foot 2x2's  I found some wood in the pile of wood by the west fence.  It is covered with shrubbery, and took me a whiile to get it out.  I was able to make five of them.
There were a lot of earwig where I dug out the rose stump.  I made three traps with vegetable oil and
I put the mix in a small paper bowl.   The nursery can on top of it will keep the the cats from drinking it, I hope.
I made two more.  One was by the watermelon plants and this one by some cabbage plants that were siverly eaten.  I didn't bury it in the ground.  I put the cement block on it to keep the cats away.

Robert and His Pellet Gun

I was up and it was just getting light.  I walked into the kitchen and dinner had been started.  She usually starts it in the slow cooker a little after four.  She got she put in two chicken breast and the sauce which she prepared last night.   it started and went back to bed.  We had breakfast and then peeled the potatoes and carrots.  We didn't have enough carrots,  The carrot were small from the garden.  We added some frozen peas from the garden to the carrots.  They had to slow cook for ten hours that would make them ready by 1:30 this afternoon.

We had the sacrament and our Sunday school service.  We listen You Tube video from Alma 22-27.

Robert called and asked if it would be alright he and Jeanne came for a visit.  Of course it would and we prepared enough dinner for them.

After dinner Robert and I walked around the yard looking at things that are growing.  He bought a pellet gun and wanted to sight it in.  He placed the target to a piece of plywood that was part of the chicken run fence.  He went seventy-five to the east across the lawn.  He set up a couple of chairs.  One to sit on and the other one to rest his pellet gun.  He has a scope on the gun.  He would shoot at the target.
He had to adjust the scope up or down and left or right to make sure that the cross hairs crossed the red bulls-eye.

The pellets entered the top targets above the black circle and a little bit to the right.
Robert is adjusting the scope while Carol is looking on.
I took a turn at shooting.  It was hard for me to see through the scope.  I finally got the cross hairs on the target and pulled the trigger.

Most of the pellets that entered the red bulls-eye of center targets were shot by Robert. I shot some of them.
When we toured the gardens, Robert was impressed by the fruits of the choke-cherry.  He wanted make some choke-cherry jelly, jam, or syrup.

Hanging Burpless Cucumbers

I watched the Saturday morning wood working shows.  The first one was a rerun.  The second one had some things that I hadn't seen before, and the third one had some new stuff.  I started dig weeds in the garden.
I was doing the weeds next to the road.  There is a large Prickly Poppy with a lot of black bees the size of a bumble bee collecting pollen.    There was only on left when I took the picture.  I got it in the photo.  It is at the left of the top flower.
I finished this section yesterday and hung one tomato plant.  I hung five of six more this morning.  I didn't have enough zip ties.  I made a couple of wire rings and hung a couple more.  I pruned off all of the branching or suckers.   The twine is barely visible.
This after noon I put up four pipes and eight foot 2x2's.  They are now ready for burpless cucumbers.
There two many branches from the elderberry shrub by the shed.  I couldn't get under it to dig the wild lettuce.  I cut them into small pieces and loaded them on the truck.
There is a deer or something eating the pole bean leaves.  In the photo there are leaves on both sides, but no leaves in the middle.
It was nearly dark when I grabbed the yellow jackets in our grill.   The photo is from yesterday.

Meeting at the Park

We drove to Provo this morning, mainly to deliver the boxes to Lisa.  I got only one picture.  I had ample opportunity to take more.  At Mile and Nyleen's home,  The home of Gary Peay,  At the park where we met Lisa and Emi.
I was able to load all of them into the trunk of our car.  The above photo was taken in Sam's Club parking lot.  We had bought a few things and they are with the boxes.

From Sam's Club we went to the home of Miles and Nyleen Baddy's home where I got a hair cut and where we had a good visit.

Next we drove over to Gary Peay's home.  Gary was outside watering the lawn.   We sit down in their carport and exchanged stories with Gary.

We then went to Provo and found a parking place on the south side of pioneer park.  We waited for about fifteen minutes.  There were a lot of people at the park.  We had to sit on the grass which was hard for me.  Carol was able to sit a little more comfortable.  Lisa and Emi was soon there.  They brought barbequed pork and submarine bread.  It was good.  After eating we loaded the boxes into Lisa's car.  She gave us the money for making the boxes.

We came straight home.   I did a little weeding in the south garden.  We had some more pulled pork for supper.

The Garden is Growing

I am seeing a dermatologist at 11:30 this morning.  I have a lot of pre-cancer things on the right side of my face.  After breakfast I started hoeing weeds in the garden.
The zoochini is coming up.  When I looked at it this morning,  some bug ate of the leaves of most of them.  There is a one left.   I hoed most of the weeds in the potatoes, cabbage, and a row of tomato plants.
I cut off the tops of the poinsettias, hoping for new stems and flowers
I found two Blue Lake pole beans.  One is ready to pick and the other one is small.

While I was seeing the dermatologist Carol did some shopping.  I was in the exam room for about five minutes.  I made a deposit at State Bank and at the credit union.  I payed a bill at Zions Bank.  We order chicken at Five Buck pizza.  It took about fifteen minutes for them to get it ready.  We came home and ate it.
I put up this twenty foot pipe.  It is above a row of tomato plants that are about eighteen inches apart.  I will train the tomatoes to follow twine  trellis which is will be hooked to the pipe.
It was quite a project.  I drilled holes through the pipes.  I pounded the pipe into the ground.   I bolted an eight foot 2x2 to the pipe.   It took several hours to get the three supports.  I used tie wire as well
as bolts.  A stepladder was helpful.
I screwed two brackets, one each side to hold the horizontal pipe in place.
I could not get the hole in the pipe to line up with the hole 2x2, so I wired them together with tie wire.
One of them I got the hole right at the top, but the bottom I wired together.
I pulled a carrot but it broke because of the hard ground.  I watered all the vegetables in the raised beds.  It was much easier to pull the carrots.   I washed them and took them into the house where I cut off the tops.  They are in a zip bag in the fridge.

Finished Boxes

This morning I watered the south garden.  While I was doing that, Carol began the work of building boxes.
The wind wasn't blowing this morning, so I sprayed the bind weed with Round-up.  It was between the corn and the onions.
When finished we had 1,356 little boxes.  We then had lunch. The boxes of small boxes. We will meet Lisa in Prove Thursday afternoon.
I watered the bale of straw two times.  Several are beginning to grow.

About ten days ago I pulled up a choke cherry  plant in the wet raspberry plants.  I put it in a pot, it looked like it was dead, but tonight it had some tiny green stems.

Dr. Appointment & Boxing

I was looking for my small tank of Round-up.  I thought that it might be in the shed.  Shane was out looking at the Hemp plants.  I asked him if he was going to pay the rent.  He said that he got a grant from the state and by the end of the week he would be able to pay me.  He owes us for the months of May and June.

I also asked him about spraying weeds with Round-up,    What would be a safe distance from the hemp plants to spray.  He said that he would discuss that with Dustin.

Carol had an appointment with Dr. Gros.  We went to Fillmore where Carol checked in at the office.  We had on our masks All the time.  After the exam Carol went to the hospital for and EKG.  I went to Roper's for a large glue stick.  The didn't have one.  We got a few groceries at the Fillmore Market and then came home.

We have seven kittens and I got two photos of them eating out of the same pot.
