Starling

I watched my wood working TV shows this morning.  They were reruns and the Wood Write shop wasn't shown.  I watched several shows on the big screen.  Most of them had to do with gardening.  After lunch I worked in house five.

There was a dead starling sitting on the thresh hold of the back door of the garage.  It is a mystery how it got there.  I will blame it on one of the cats.  But it looked like it landed there.  I just checked after dark and it was gone.  To dark to see and feathers.
The sweet potato has a long stem.
I cut it off and put it in a plastic quart bottle.  It should soon begin growing roots.
I dug out all the weeds on the south side of house five.
I filled three small grow bags with dry soil.  I put them in a pan of water for them to soak up the water.  A new picture tomorrow.

This is about all for today.

Visit From Chris, Briana, and Rylee Haycock.

First thing this morning after I got up was to see how many ants  were in the kitchen.

There were a bunch of ants on the counter.  I turned off all the lights except in my bedroom.  I back to the bathroom and showered.  After getting dressed I got my phone and turned on the lights.  It looked like the ants had found some jelly.   Some of them were gone, but I took the above picture.  I was shaky and didn't get a good picture.
Another cold morning.  Later in the morning I put on my coat, grabbed the bag of Green Arrow seeds and went out to the garden.  I used my pointed hoe and made a row.  I carefully put the seeds in the bottom of farrow put the seeds in the row.  I made a tamping jig and went up and down the row.
I pressed the seeds to the bottom of the row, and went up and down again covering the seed with soil.
I filled the sprinkling can three times and gave them a good drink.  After lunch I dug up the rest of the carrots.  I put the in a plastic pan and washed away all of the soil.  A lot of them were spoiled.  I had to throw the spoiled ones away.  The rest are in the fridge.

Briana Haycock and her husband Chris were on their way to St George to have their baby blessed.  They stopped on their way.  It was about three thirty when they got here.  Their baby Rylee is about five months old.  She is really cute.  We were so glad that they stopped. The blessing will happen Sunday.
Covid has us wearing masks.  Here Briana is changing her babies diaper.
Good picture of Rylie.

Me and Rylee.  The light coming through the window is washing the photo some.

Getting Ready House Five

This morning I began work on the Holden Ward history.  I did edited the work that I had all ready written.  When finished with that I printed all of it.  Several months ago I printed a cover sheet.  I couldn't find it after looking all over the house several times.  I tried to print a new one and I couldn't do that either.

This afternoon I watered my plants in house five.  I filled the sprinkling can three times.  Dustin Smith was there.  He moved the bench top I had used last year.

It was coming apart.  I put screws through the top into the 2x4's underneath.  Dustin brought the blocks over and put the under the bench top.  I moved it around some until I got it close to the north wall.
There is a lot of weeds inside the west half of house five.   I dug up a lot of them.  I hope to dig all of them up over the next couple of days.
Shane in house five planting more hemp.
I had him take a picture of me in house five.  It shows the large bandage on the right side of my face.
The second photo.
It is dry enough to work some in the garden.  I hope to plant Green Arrow peas tomorrow.

I called Robert to discuss options for a greenhouse.  I could build it by the strawberry plants or south of the garage.  It would be easier and quicker to do it south of the garage.

Dermatologist

 The activities today.

I needed to get a copy of my City Costco card to get the bonus cash.  It took me over and hour.  I made many copies and finally got a copy that was ledge able before I got one that was easy to read.  Carol went to the hospital were they drew some blood for a couple of test.  After that we went to the dermatologist.  She had a small growth on her tongue removed.  The specimen will be tested for cancer.  It bled quiet a bit.  They stopped the bleeding.  We bought some groceries.  No one new that I had this band aide on because of the mask I was wearing.
Now it was my turn.  He deadened my cheek and then cut a big chunk of my cheek.  The shape of the bandage looks like it was quite long.  I get to take off the bandage a day after tomorrow.  I am not to get it wet when I shower.
Here is another picture.  Carol took the picture when we got home.
I watered the plant is house six.  The two lemon trees and the other things to the left are suffering from frost damage a couple of days ago.
I bought some small grow bags.  To the right of the bags is a PVC coupler inserted in the bag.  I plan to fill it with potting soil and then pull out the PVC coupler.

Cat Power Station

This morning I watered the plants in house five.  The lemon trees and pomegranate are suffering from frost damage.  I was in the garage this morning and started to wonder about the Cat Power Station that was sitting in front of the west window.  I have tried to use it start my tractor a couple of years ago that was in house three, but nothing happened.  I tried it several times, and still nothing.  I watched several You Tube videos and learned some about it.   I dusted it off some and followed directions on the video.

I brought it in the house and after watching several videos several times, I was able to get all of the functions to work.  I plugged the mix master into the outlet it also worked.

Carol had an appointment concerning her heart.  She went in and I went over to Roper's to pay for the glass that I got last week.  There was bags of Miracle Grow potting mic outside the the store.

I paid for the glass and bought two bags of Miracle Grow potting mix.  I loaded it into the car and went back to get Carol.  She hadn't gone in yet.  I went in with her.  Her heart and lungs were doing well.  She is going to have some blood test tomorrow.  We stopped for ice cream on the way home.

I had lunch and watched a couple TV shows.  Then I worked more on the Cat Power Station.

I Took a Vacation From Writing.

Thursday of last week was the last time that I had written since Carol and I got the shots.  I have some photos taken during this time.  I will mainly describe the photos.
Last week I took the frame for this painting to Roper's to have plexiglass put fit the frame.  Instead of Plexiglass the used glass.  I put in it some matting and backing on the back.  I used duct tape to hold it in place.
We have been over run by ants.  I took all most everything our of the appliance garage in the corner.  I washed the counter tops and backsplash with a water and Clorox which would destroy the trails left by the ants.  Then everything was put back into place.  The next morning there were a few ants.  Then the next day there were less and so forth.  I think that that the ants were in the cupboards.
I started cleaning in the laundry room.  There were a lot of dream whip containers and lids.  Also, cottage cheese and other small containers with their lids.  They were terribly dusty.  I washed and dried them all.  Pictured are drinking  containers that came from a hospital.  They can be used for measuring ounces of water.  I put them in the garage.
A photo of the containers and their lids above the dryer.

We Got Our Shots

We watched a short video this morning and then drove  to Fillmore to get the vaccination. Our appointment was for 9:30.  We were fifteen minutes early.  We went to the entrance and got behind a truck.  I think that we were the second car this morning.  There were a lot of volunteer people helping.  The first person had a list with our names on it.  She put a checked our names.  The next person directed us into the fire station.  Inside, the next person gave Carol a shot.  She then came around and gave me a shot.  We had short sleeves.  We then drove on through the fire station and turned to the left where we waited for fifteen minutes.

The open door is the entrance to the fire station.  We came in from the right. I went to Roper's were I left the picture frame for plexiglass.  I paid off the home improvement loan at Zion' Bank.
I got another picture of the post office.  It appears that they are putting some type of insulation around the exterior of the new part.
The furnace is on in house five.  The picture above is an enclosed hemp nursery.  The tomato plants froze last night.  There were on heating mats.  I didn't think that they would freeze.  Three plants survived.

Dusting of Snow

It was colder last night than it usually is.  Ice on the cat watering container.  Richard left early this morning hunting coyotes.

9:30 - I uncovered the geraniums.  Three plants were slightly touched with frost.  Part of a leaf was drooping.  The tomato and pepper plants were okay.  They are on heating pads.

There are couple of leaves that appear to be bent over.  They are the ones that have been touched by frost.
A dusting of snow some time during the early morning.   Richard came back  and had some breakfast.  he then gathered up most of is clothes and other things.
I worked on a picture frame.  Some time ago, Melissa, our daughter painted this.  It has been in my bedroom and once in awhile I take a look at it.  This afternoon I made a frame for it.  I mitered each piece.  I made a rabbit to hold the painting the backing, and the plexiglass.   I glued the mitered corner together and secured it will a brad nailer.  It was a little out of alinement.  I forced it together and secured the last corner together with brads without glue.

I covered the geraniums with two sets of frost protection fabric.

Another Day of Cold

Most of the morning I was in the house.  I tried to find John Gates picture on Face Book where he one the state heavy weight championship.  I couldn't find it.  The TV has been pretty boring.  I searched for Bonanza on You Tube.  Richard and I watched two episodes.  It was soon lunch time.  After lunch we watched a little more TV.

This afternoon I moved most of the 3.5 inch pots so the would have more room to grow.
Late this evening I went to the Five Buck Pizza place and bought two servings of chicken wings.  The tasted good, but were quite small.  We probably won't buy more from them again.

John Gates received his mission call.  I was able to put that in the Holden Ward history.

Cold Stormy Day

I worked on the Holden Ward History this morning.  I decided to use Apache Open Office on my laptop instead of doing it on Word Perfect in my bedroom.  I struggled posting photos, but finally figured it out.  I am expecting information from ward leaders in the future.

Close-up tomato plants.  Photo taken yesterday
The water stem that comes up at the end of house four.  It broke a couple of days ago and the water was shut off.  That shut the water off to the chickens which I thought was frozen.
I uncovered the geraniums.  They have been covered for a couple of days with frost protection fabric.  It is not getting very cold tonight, so I shut the doors and left them uncovered.

Carol called Robert.  He is feeling a lot better and Jeanne went to the gym.

A Busy Sunday

It was snowing last night when we went to bed.  I looked out the front door a little after I got up.  It was snowing a little bit.  Looking out the backdoor there was a little snow on the steps and maybe an inch on the garage roof.

Carol asked Richard to remove the snow from the driveway.  It didn't take him long.
I checked the water dish for the chickens.  The water at the top was frozen.  I broke the ice and tried to  turned on the water.  It was frozen.  I filled the water can with hot water several times and pored the water on the tap and the PVC stem.  I was able to turn the tap, but still no water. I took more hot water to house one.  The ball valve was off.  I turned it on a little and the water began to flow.

The tap in house five was also frozen.  I pored hot water on it and it started run some.  It was about time for sacrament meeting to start.   Dustin was out there when I went back out.  He had turned off the water because the pipe at the back of house four broke.  We found a cap and he put a cap the broken piece.  The water was running again.  I went back to the house was able to connect to ZOOM.
We got a good picture, but the audio was terrible.  It was loud enough, and maybe to loud.  We could hardly understand the speakers.  We could get a word or two, but not enough to understand a sentence.
There are a lot of tomato plants growing, and even one pepper plant.  Robert called to see how Carol and I were getting along.  How was he and Jeanne getting a long.  Jeanne was much better, but he had been suffering from Covid for five days.  He had about five more days to go,

Rain all the Day Long

When I got up this morning and looked out side, it was raining.  By night it was turning to snow.  We went to the post office to pick up the mail.  Couldn't do much outside and didn't feel in the mood to work in the garage.  We just lounged around the house most of the day.  The weather forecast was for freezing temperature at about twenty-five degrees.  I was concerned for the geraniums that I moved into house five yesterday.  I covered them up with four layers of frost protection fabric.

Rain, Thanks

This morning we woke up to rain.  I don't know how much, but my guess would be 1/8 of an inch.    Richard had a quick breakfast then headed up north.  We took some puzzles over to Marsha, got Carol some more books from the Book Barn and then drove to Fillmore.  There was a little rain falling and the roads were wet.  I filled the car full of gas.  Carol need some twenty dollar bills, there for we stopped at state bank.

We got some groceries at the Fillmore Market and then came home.  No mail this morning.  about 10:30.

The rain had stopped and the sun began to shine.  I got the two wheeled cart and it took me three loads to bring the geraniums to the west end of house five.  I removed a few of the pots that contained dead plants.  The are looking good.  The hemp plants in house two are getting large and shading some of the geraniums.
I cleaned the floor by digging out weeds and removing the dirt.  I watered them and also the tomato plants.
I pulled off all the dead leaves from the Dracaena and took them out to the compost pile.   There were a lot of leaves that had that tips
damage.  I cut of the damaged parts.
