Memorial Day 2021

Saturday and Sunday afternoon we put flowers on the graves of our departed loved ones.  Today is Memorial day where we honor soldiers who have served in defense of our country and some gave their life in defense of America and other countries.  All most every home in Holden was flying the American flag.   The young men and young women post the flag on seven different days during the year.  It cost $25 each year for this service.

Another photo of the flag.
The watermelon and cucumber seeds are germinating.
My Agave parryi plant gets taller every day.    I worked in the garden most of the day.   I planted more tomato plants
I prepared the ground for peppers, cabbage, and broccoli plants.  I tilled several rows.  The controller of the tiller is not working.   I change gears without a clutch.  It is probably pretty hard on the tiller.
I run water down the rows to soften the soil to make it easier to dig.
I planted carrot seed.  I used a onion salt shaker to evenly distribute the seeds.  I shook it over the raised bed.  I then put a piece of burlap over the bed to avoid washing the seeds away.
There is a section of the garden that was full of weeds.   I dug them out.  I might be able to plant something here.  I don't know yet.

Local Cemeteries

Being Sunday we went to Church.  Before doing this I watered the baskets, tubs, geraniums, and the tomato plants.  I also looked into house five.  The potato plants there needed a watering.  Again we went to sacrament meeting.  It was a little different this week than last week.  The bishopric didn't wear masks this morning.  The two speakers spoke on the Book of Mormon.  It is the fifth Sunday.  The Watson's were the speakers.  Their topic was the need of senior missionaries.

We tried a new frozen chicken and noodles dinner.  It was pretty good.  We drove to Sutherland cemetery where my parents and our first born son are buried.

Buried here is Sierra Johnson the our grand daughter and the son of Robert and Jeanne Johnson.  She is buried in the Holden cemetery.
We then went to the cemetery in Sutherland.  He lived for one day.  That was a sad time for us.
This is the stone of my mother and father.  We stopped in the Delta cemetery where grandma and grandpa Sampson are buried.   We then spent the rest of the evening.

Cemetery

Our first stop on our cemetery was in the Provo cemetery.  It was about ten.

We met Richard there and put flowers on the grave of Carol's mother and father.  There were other graves of ancestors in other location of family members.
We went to Camp Williams, where Eric was buried.   Just over a year ago.  There was a flag by the headstone of each veteran.
We drove to the Saratoga Springs Utah temple site.  The road went straight to the temple and landscaped on both sides of the road.
This is a close-up of the temple which is under construction.
This agave parryi is over eight feet tall.  A person in front would have to look up to see the top.

Irrigation Water

I read another chapter in the Book of Mormon.  I fed the the cats and kittens.

There was a Mormon Cricket in the Cool Whip container.
At seven I turned down the water.  I cleaned the ditch yesterday.
The water is beginning to run down the ditch.  I kept out the weeds with my pitchfork.
I started the water on the east garden.
This hemp field which has drip tape was being irrigated.
I dug up two rose bushes at the edge of the raspberry patch.  There was also a lot of climbing vines   I dug them out at the end of our water turn.
Two little kittens in this bucket.  I walked past them several times and they just looked up at me.  The left when I carried out the stepladder.
We drove to Fillmore to exchange overalls and kitchen over head lamp.  I worked a couple of hour taking the old lamp down and putting in the new one.  The above photo is of the box that it came in.  I got it nearly installed and it slipped loose and fell on the floor.   I tried again and this time I was able to get it secure.

More Tomato Plants

Yesterday I planted in the garden Moscow and Celebrity tomato plants.  Today I planted Delicious and Beef Master tomato plants.  I ran water down the row yesterday which made the soil much easier to dig.

Cleve Burns an attorney came today at ten.  He is going to prepare us a will and a trust account.  He answered all of our questions.  It will cost us $900.  He will be coming back next Thursday.  After he left I dug up weeds in the garden.  After lunch I grabbed my weed eater and cleaned the ditch.  We get the water at seven in the morning.

I planted another row of tomato plants.  Seventeen Delicious and eleven Beef Master.  After I finished I r an water down the row.
I put cages around the tomato plants that I planted yesterday.
Another photo of the Agave plant.  Gets taller every day.
I put out some of the irrigation pipes for tomorrow.  We will have the water until three.

One of the overhead kitchen light has quite.  I flickers some.  I drove to Fillmore get a new one.  The above photo is of the one one the box.  It is different than the light at the west end of the kitchen.  I took it out of the box and I don't like it.  I put it back in the box to return it tomorrow.

Memorial Day Mums

I worked some in the garden this morning.  We went to Revere Building where I had an appointment with the dermatologist at ten.  He froze some of my bumps on my face and hands. They were a little sore for a while, but not now.

Carol stayed in the car and read a book while waiting for me.  We filled the car with gas  and went to the Fillmore Market for groceries.   They had boxes and boxes of Chrysanthemums.  We bought eleven.  We then went to the drug store for Carol's medication.
In the south west corner of our yard,   Shane has prepared a spot for more hemp plants.
I planted twelve celebrity and twelve Moscow plants.  Celebrity on the east end of the row and Moscow on the west end of the row.  I will make some cages like then ones picture for all of them  I ran water down the rows.  They got a good soaking.  I dug holes and put in a handful of horse pellets in each hole and put the tomato plant on top of it.
I turned on the sprinklers to water the back lawn.  It will run all night.
The Agave parryi is getting taller.
This is a terrible weed that is growing across the road and in many places all over town.  They have a dandelion type seed that blows all over.  Any I dig up any that I see in our yard.

Our light fixture is burning out.  We have to get a new one that looks like the on in th above photo.
The tiller is broke.  The parts welded together broke so there is no way to control the tiller.
Here the handle bars are showing.
Two views of the Agave parryi.
A different angle.  House three is in the back ground.

Manti Utah Temple

We picked up Ann Stephenson this morning about 7:30 and drove to the Manti Temple.  We went in at the service door.  Someone from the office took our temperature, I then scanned my recommend.  I then changed to my white clothes.  I studied the parts until we left for home.  We stopped at the Hot Spot in Salina.  We were home just before lunch.

I got this photo of the Agave plant.  It grows taller everyday.
Shane and Dustin were there getting ready for some new plants.
There was a leak in a water pipe.  They dug it out.  I found some PVC pats to plug it.

I saw one Mormon cricket.  I was able to kill it.  It looks like the cricket bait is working.   I did a lot  of weeding in all parts of the garden.  I found the You Tube video on the best trellising method for indeterminate tomato plants.
I went to the dentist just before lunch.  I lost a  crown last week.  My tooth was to far gone.  Dr. Larsen built more tooth on the bad tooth.

Mormon Crickets

It was really cold early this morning.  There was frost on the lawn and on the top of the garage.  I was afraid that the geraniums in the kidney were froze; the dahlias west of the driveway were froze; and the corn in the south garden.  I checked it out a little later in the morning.  Good news.  Nothing was frozen.  I put two carts of tomato plants in house five last night.  I brought them back to the patio this morning.  I think that the pole beans are beginning to germinate.

Mormon crickets in out yard this afternoon.  I found them on both sides of the shed.   A couple by the irises and the one picture above was by the garage door.  I put out a lot of bait on the south side of the shed.  I put wire baskets on top of the bait to keep the cats from eating it.  I sprinkled some in the tall weedy grasses hoping that the cats won't find it.  Some have seen them on the freeway south of Holden.

After lunch we planted more geraniums.  We put some in the tub that held the dracaena.
There was an old ugly dogwood shrub under the red bud tree.  I cut off all of the stems and loaded them on the truck.  There were some weedy maples there also.  I cut them off near the ground and painted the stem with round-up.  They should die.  They were loaded on the truck and took them to the dump.
I have honey suckle plants growing all over the yard.  I pulled one up and it had a root going parallel to the ground.  I believe it was about eighteen inches long.
I put fertilizer on the sweet corn.  I then ran water down the row hoping that they will green up.
The Green Arrow peas are beginning to bloom.  It is about the same time they bloomed last year.  I dug up weeds around the garden.  I raked up all of the weeds that I dug up in the south garden.
Two more pictures of the Mormon Cricket that was on the side walk.
I stepped on it and squashed it.
