Picked House Six the Last Time

This morning we drove to Fillmore.  Carol needed to have a paper signed by her doctor to certify that She was healthy enough to drive for another year.  We parked in front of the new Revere Health building, her Doctor Gross was in the parking lot.  He came in and signed her paper.

We then stopped at the Market for groceries.

I am working on a CSA boxes and checking out some tomato prices.  The two above photos show the prices of tomatoes.
I prepared scallions, beets, and beet greens for Share the Harvest at the post office.  The I cut the tops off the larger beets.  I gathered all the tops of the scallions and put them and the beet tops in the compost pile shown above.
The above photo shows the beets in zip bags and the beet greens.
I picked a bucketful of tomatoes.  We took those to the post office on our way to Fillmore.  Most of the tomatoes in house six are badly cracked or green.  I turned the furnace off today.  If it gets to cold it will freeze in house six.
Here is a better picture of the middle of house one.
I began removing the tomato vines in house six beginning to get it ready for next spring.
I went for a walk.  I got a picture of the footing and foundation for a garage.  It looks like there will be a two door garage and shop.
There are three tomato plants that I have no seed.  Two have been propagated and are doing well in house two.  I took two cutting from what I will call Black Plum.
I carved the pumpkin last night.  It has been on the porch all day.  Carol lit the candle late this afternoon.

Rake the Leaves

Manti Temple Day. As soon as we got home at 1:30, I immediately  changed cloths and went out to the nursery.  I did a little surfing of the internet then decided to carve the pumpkin.
We bought the pumpkin several weeks ago.  I watched at a couple You Tube videos for some ideas.  I used a small key hole saw to open the top and to cut the holes for the mouth, noes, and eyes.  I put out some newspapers for the seeds and other pieces.  I finished it and took it out side.

I put all the corners together and carried the leaves out to the garden.

House One, Cleaner

I filled the bird feeder with bird food.  It has been empty for over a month.  And no birds today.
A photo from Saturday morning.  The cucumbers hanging from every node.
It took over an hour to harvest scallions, red beets, tomatoes, and cucumber.  The beets and scallions are in the tote.
Share the Bounty is at the post office, where people can bring their extra fruits and vegetables.  We have put our extra out almost everyday.
I finished unhooking the cucumber vines. They were on the right or the east side.
I had to dig out some of the tomato plants.  They were in the way of my raking.
Here they are all raked to either side.

Another CSA Box

We started this morning with a little work in the garden.  We gathered all of the spaghetti squash.  Then removed all the vines.  We also cutdown the last of the corn stalks.

I prepared scallions, red beats, cucumbers, and tomatoes for the sample CSA box that I took to the post office.  They were gone by five.  I pulled up the scallions, washed them, removed dead and dirty leaves, put them in groups of five and secured them with a rubber band.  Did the same for beet greens.  And then made three bags or red beets.  I for got to take pictures.
The chicken nest were really bad with the chicken manure.  I cleaned it out and put in some saw dust that was in the garage.
I removed all the old sweet potato vines and leveled out the raised bed.  I put the chicken manure on the bed getting a head start for it next year.
The sky was free of clouds and when I looked up there was a huge contrail from the east to the west.  The upper air was very calm.  The contrail was crisp and straight. My phone would not for some reason take a picture.  I finally got one.
Another airplane crossed below the one from the east.

After lunch, Carol and I visited with Alisha Bills.  She is on my ministering list.
Yesterday, I replace the broken, leaking water pipe.  This morning I covered it up with the dirt.  The chicken scratched in the wet soil picking out tiny worms.
I took cuttings from an tomato plant that had orange tomatoes that resembled the big roma tomato named gladiator.  There were three cuttings.  two of them had sufficient roots for transplanting.  The photo above photo show the roots.
I put two of them in the above pots.  The other one needed to grow more roots so it went back to the window sill in the kitchen.

I walked over to visit Richard Darnel.  Neil Stevens was right behind me and we visited for about and hour.
I went for an half hour walk.  On the way home I took the above picture.  It is an old truck that has been parked there for years.  It might be the subject of a painting.

The Missing Piece

Carol was looking at her puzzles in our closet.   I couple of puzzles fell on the floor and off came the lids.  Pieces from both puzzles ended up on the floor and some even fell in partially open drawers. She gathered them up and put one of the puzzles together.  There were seven missing pieces.  After several trips back to the closets all the pieces were found except one.
The photo above which is pretty fuzzy shows most everything that was in the closet that is now on the bedroom floor.
I have a lot of baseball caps.  All but three on put in the DI bag.

I made a quick trip to Fillmore and Roper's hardware store.  I needed a few PVC parts to fix the leaking water pipe that delivers water to the chickens.
Yesterday, started digging out the leaking water pipe.  I cut out a section of pipe and removed more soil. I let it drain while I had lunch.
I found a replacement section and glued in three couples, and the waited for the cement to set.
It took me a couple of hours to remove the last of the tomato plants.  On the right are some cucumber vines that I will take them out tomorrow.
I turned on the water.  No leaks and the prospect of the winter without leaking water and ice.

We didn't find the missing piece.

Quick Trip to Provo

A couple of day ago we decided to go to Provo to get some supplies that we are out of or nearly out of.  We planned to leave at nine, but didn't get away until half past nine.  I wanted to take some produce to the post office before we left.  I went out to house two at eight.  I cleaned the top of the table.  That is where I would begin cleaning.
I dug the scallions first and put them in the black bucket to wash off most of the soil.  I pulled the clumps apart and removed most of the soil.  I then pulled of the outside leaves. I pulled the red beats and washed them the same way.

I cut of any remaining roots and washed the again in the first white bucket and then they went into the next bucket.  I repeated that process until all the scallions were in the bucket on the right.  Then I washed the beets.  Five beets with their greens are in each bunch and held together with a rubber band.  The same for the scallions.  They were put in the tote on the right end of the table.
I picked a dozen or so tomatoes.  They were washed and put in the tote on the left.  The last thing in the tote are onions.  Not mentioned earlier is one zip bag full of red beets.

We then drove to Provo and bought our  supplies at Sam's Club.  We had lunch at the nearby Chuck o Rama.  We got a some cherry juice concentrate at the Red Barn.
After arriving home I changed clothes and started cutting down tomato plants in house one.  It was so hot I decided to do something else.
I picked the large cucumbers to feed them to the chickens.  I usually open them up with a shovel.  I wanted something much easier.  I made a jig to hold them while I cut the with my radial arm saw.  It worked pretty good, but a little bit dangerous and left the back wall covered with cucumber saw dust.  It really wasn't dust, but it all wet with juice and small parts of the cucumber.
I turned the jig end to end and used a bread knife and safely and easily cut them in half.
The weather is so warm and the wild grasses are growing, I decided to spray the weeds.  I filled the tank three times and sprayed the weeds in the dry garden north of the house; the weeds by the grape plants and weeds in other places.
The above photo shows asparagus on the right and the black tank at the east end of this garden.
The post holding some of the cucumber vines is leaning to the right.  It may break because of the weight of the cucumbers.  I drove a conduct stake nest to it.
With a zip tie pulled the leaning post against the stake.
