North Garden Cleanup

Up early again.  Showered, shaved, and read the next chapter in The Book of Mormon.  Carol showered and did her hair.  I started breakfast.  I did a little work in the yard.  I soon went to the post office and got the mail.  There two TV shows in a row.  One started at ten and the other one started at eleven.  We then had lunch.

This afternoon, I put on a light coat and went out to the garden. I got the weed eater and cut down all of the weeds.  I went up and down the rows.  There was a lot of redroot weeds just loaded with seeds. I got the shovel and dug up some tomato plants and some dried-up zucchini plants.  I dug around a little bit for potatoes, but I couldn't find any.

There was a little bit of grass seed left in this fertilizer spreader. The grass growing on the back lawn is a clump grass.  Some of it died during the summer. I planted new seed at those places.
There is a hole in the front lawn where I remove a large plant.  I put a large root control bag in the hole.  I was afraid that some trick or treaters would run across the lawn and step in the hole and fall down.

It was around five when the trick or treaters started to come. Carol counted twenty-one.  We had a lot of candy left over.  We watched TV the rest of the evening.

Sunday

We usually go to bed a little after 10:30. When that happens, I get up at 5:15. Sometimes it's a little after eleven, then I get up at 6:30.

I fixed breakfast this morning. Then I got ready for choir practice.  Choir practice starts at nine. There was four men at choir practice.  I hurried back home to get Carol for sacrament meeting.  It was difficult for me to hear one of the speakers.  Carol could hear her okay.  The fifth Sunday program was finding the names of ancestors and prepare them of temple ordnances. There were several people doing the presentation.  I consider myself computer savvy, but I couldn't understand all of the information.

We came home the baked potatoes, and the baked sweet potato were done.  Carol made hamburger patties. I put barbecue sauce on mine. Carol didn't eat her patty.  It was a little pink on the inside.  There was an email announcement about some ancestors that some of their temple ordnances were not finished.  I checked on the link and found quite a few that were lacking.

We watched the channel eleven.  It contained church programming.  We watched other programming during the evening.

Storing Dahlias

It was early when I showered, read from the Book of Mormon and posted to Face Book.  Carol showered while I prepared breakfast.  After breakfast I watched my two wood working shows on channel seven.

After that I carved the pumpkin.  I cut around the stem and remove the piece that made the lid.  The seeds and all that was inside of the pumpkin were really slippery. I tried to make a scary face.  It looks a little scarry.

I took a lot of things to the dumpster.  Which included the house garbage, three bags of aluminum cat food cans, the black garbage bag of tomato plants, and a few other things.
The above photo is of the bag of tomato plants.
I dug up all of the dahlia plants.  I put most of them in a large nursery can.  The rest I put on a cart and wheeled them into house five.  I turned the water on all the way.  I put all of them on the floor and begin spraying them with the hose, trying to wash away all of the dirt.  I turned them upside down to get at their roots.  I put all of them in the nursery can and took them back to garage.
They are all in the nursery can in the garage except for one which is a pretty purple one.
All of the dahlia stems are on the new compost pile.
The dahlia bed is pretty much ready for winter and next spring when I will plant the dahlias back into the dahlia bed.  Later Carol and I went for a ride around town.  We had a light supper and finished off the day by watching TV.

Geraniums Tomato Clean-up

I started morning getting up early and read and posted a chapter of the Book of Mormon and posted it on Face Book.  After breakfast I looked at all of the running water to see if and of the pipes were frozen.  Everything was good.

I helped Carol with tomatoes.  We voted this morning.  I took the ballets and put them in the ballet box. I watched two TV programs and then had lunch.
This afternoon I pulled up all of the geraniums and put them on the burlap.  I drug it out to the new compost pile.  I cut the last salvia plant. It is in the above photo.
The above photo is the new compost pile that I am makingl
I got my weed eater and cut down all of the peony plants.
I pulled all of the geraniums under the front room window and put them on the burlap.
I also pulled the geraniums under Carol\s bedroom window.
I finished up with one of the big projects I have been working on for several days.  I dug up the tomato plants and put them on the new compost pile.   There is one group of tomato plants hanging by twine from an overhead pipe.  I didn't want to remove each tomato clip, so I cut the twine and stuffed all of the plants into a large black garbage bag.
This is the large garbage bag that I will take to the dump.
The above photo is of this part of the garden all cleaned up.
I began remove the Topaz melon vines and digging up weeds.

Timpanogus Temple

I was up early again this morning.  We planned to go to the Timpanogos temple this morning.  But we couldn't go until we knew the weather conditions in American Fork.  I showered, shaved, said my prayers and put on my work clothes.  I started to read the from the Book of Mormon.  Carol got up, I then fed the cats and started preparing breakfast.  After breakfast, Carol called her sister, Nyleen.  There was no snow.  I put on my suit, and we were soon on our way.  We picked up Miles and Nyleen Batty and then went to the temple.  I parked the car.   We had a good session.  After the session I got the car.  I took the following pictures of the temple.  Some were before I entered the temple and some were after we left the temple.

We stopped at Sam's Club for cat food and a few other items.  Nyleen made us some sandwiches to eat on the way home.  We then stopped at the Red Barn for ice cream.  We drove on the old highway that took through Mona and Nephi.  I fed the chickens and got one egg.
After we got home, I began digging up the tomato plants.  I cut of some of the branches and pulled off the cages.  I stacked the cages.  I dug up the tomato plants and
and put them on the large composting pile.  I decided to start a new pile and let old pile begin the composting process.  The top left-hand corner is part of the old pile.

Load to Dump

The is some strange thing that happened this morning.  Yesterday, I answered the house phone.  The caller gave me a message that said that I had an appointment at the Revere health center at 8:30. I didn't have one, but Carol did.  We were there about ten minutes early.  The receptionist told us that it was yesterday.  We came home.  We had more of Carol's delicious soup for lunch.

Pruned Trees

I was up at the usual time this morning. I showered, shaved, and read the next chapter in the Book of Mormon.  I prepared breakfast and watched more TV news.  At 9:30 I got the mail.  We then drove to Fillmore for groceries. Carol had a short list.  By the time we checked out we had hour shopping cart full.  We spent $111.01.  An interesting total.  We also stopped at State Bank of Utah where Carol got some cash for her wallet.  It had warmed up some. I went outside and started pruning the shrubs.  Some of the branches were broken because of the heavy snow from yesterday and hanging on the ground.

I started cutting on with my hand saw.  That wasn't working.  I got several extension cords and my small electric chain saw. I began cutting them and put them in the back of my truck.
I cut a couple of branches off the honey suckle bush.
There was one large branch that was above the satellite dish.  Yesterday it was heavy with snow and prevented us from getting the TV signal.  I cut it off.  There was another branch that was rubbing the shingles which were on the roof.  I cut it off.  I cut it off some of the branches from a strange prune tree.
There is another branch from the same tree that needs to be cut off.  I need someone to help me with it.
I cut some of the larger branches into smaller pieces which made it much easier to put them in the truck.  I now have a truck load of branches.

Carol made some good vegetable soup.  We spent the rest of the evening watching TV.

Drained Well Pipe

We were up late last night, so I decided to sleep in. I showered and shaved.  I was getting late. I fed the cats.  I turned on the news.  A little later Carol got up.  She showered while I fixed breakfast.  I read another chapter from the Book of Mormon.  I walked out to the greenhouses.  There was a little water running in each greenhouse where there might be some frozen pipes.

I got the mail.  Our ballets were there.  I came home and Carol sent me back to the post office to mail a birthday card.  I took a twenty-dollar bill.  Rose Ann Frost saw the twenty and gave back two tens.  I put one in the card and the other one in my pocket.  I watched two TV shows.  I then had lunch.

This fertilizer spreader was in the back of the truck.  It had some lawn seed and snow in it.  I removed it and spread on the back lawn.  I then put the spreader in house five.  The temperature in house five was ninety-one degrees.  We watched the end of Highway to Heaven.  Richard Darnel came over to help on draining one of the pipes at the well.  He used a small adjustable wrench and had it draining in less than a minute.   Carol and I went for a little drive around town.  We watch our usual TV shows when it gets dark.

First Snow

I was up early and started the slow cooker.  I sprayed the inside of the cooker with pam which made it much easier to clean.  It was hard to remove the lid of the can of broth. I did it twice with the electric can opener.  I put in the roast and gave it good dose of salt and pepper.  I was about an hour late getting up and getting it started.  I then went back to bed.  I couldn't get back to sleep so I got up.  I read the elders quorum lesson.  Carol got up.  I fed the cats and started cooking my old fashion oatmeal mush.  I then prepared breakfast.  It snowed most of the night and some this morning.

This is a photo of the dawn redwood tree.  The weight of the snow bent the branches to the ground.
This is a photo of the netting covering the chicken run.  The weight of the snow pulled the north side to the ground.  I got some scissors and cut the netting off the hen house.
I pulled the netting to the east side of the chicken run.
The weight of the snow pulled the branches off the dawn redwood to the ground. I got a long piece of wood and shook the branches.  I got off most of the snow.  I was able to drive under the branches.
Most of the dahlias are smashed to the ground.
Winter wonderland this morning.  I was standing on the road when I snapped this picture.
The TV wouldn't work because of the snow.
The east lawn looking to the north.
Looking up to the sky through the trees.
Picked these red beats covered with snow.
I cut off the tops and roots and thoroughly washed them.

Lisa's Diner

Again, it was early when I got up.  I showered and read another chapter in the Book of Mormon.  I was confused as to what chapter I read yesterday.  I think that I got it figured out.  After breakfast, I watched the two channel seven TV shows and began moving some of the plants that might freeze.  I picked all of the ripe tomatoes and many tomatoes that were just starting to blush.

I dug up the dracaena.  It was hard digging.  I dug on one side and then on the other side. I got another shovel to help get it out of the ground.  I looked all over the yard for the two wheeled cart. I thought that someone had borrowed it.  I did find it on the patio.  I rolled the dracaena out of the hole and got it on the cart and took it into the garage.
Digging up the pomegranate was a little easier.  I got it on the cart and wheeled it into the garage.  I put the two lemon trees in the garage.  That was much easier.  Our neighbor, Ann Stephenson, brought over her small dracaena. and put it in the garage.  I picked up the mail.  There was a letter for Richard.
I picked all of the dahlias that were pretty fresh and put them in a bucket of water.  We then drove to Nephi for a dinner with my brother and sisters and their spouses.  We met at Lisa's diner in Nephi.  Carol had a Navajo toco.  I ordered chicken sandwich and a side of French fries.  She really liked hers.  Mine was okay, but I have eater better.  We bought some groceries at the Nephi market.  We then drove home.  It rained all of the way to Nephi and most of the way home.  Betsy and Dan Fredrickson were waiting for us at the post office.  They visited with us for some time.  I gave them a Topaz melon and a small packet of seeds.  A little after they left it began to rain.  I walked out to the well to see if Richard Darnel had loosened the pipe union.  He hadn't loosened it.
Carol made bouquet using dahlia flowers.  It is really pretty.   We watched some more TV show the rest of the evening.
