After breakfast and a few chores, I watched my three wood working TV programs. When the shows were over I walked out to the greenhouse.
There was a group of people watering and planting the hemp plants. I worked in the garden. There were some plants that needed watering. I ended up watering almost all of the plants. I also worked in the garage finishing the short stool that I made. I routed the outside edge of each leg. Made the stool seat from and old piece of 1/2 inch plywood. I put the stool legs upside down over the seat. I drew a dark line on the inside on the bottom side of the seat. I then laid down a bead of glue. I then put weighs on the stool.
I planted the runner beans that had rooted. I covered them lightly with soil and applied water.
We had a super gust of wind. Later I went out to turn of the water and discovered a huge branch from the Flamingo Maple had blown off and landed on one of the tomato cages.
One of the nursery cover blew of but no damage.
I could hear a chainsaw north of us. We drove over there; it was Spence Trosth's home and over half of the tree had blown over. His dad, grandpa, and brothers were cutting up the tree. The tree also broke the power line.
Another phot of the tree in our garden.
Another one.
This is a better photo of the whole tree.

I write all most every day of what goes on in our home in the garden and in the nursery. We are ordinance workers at the Manti Temple on the Tuesday morning shift and the Saturday evening shift. In addition there are several trips to Utah county a couple of times a month and a few short trips to other mountain west areas. Our family is most important to us. All of our children live in Utah except one who lives in Kentucky.

Mowed Lawn & Attached Pipe
This morning there was a large truck parked a little east of our house. When we left for Fillmore for our weekly shopping the truck was being unloaded.
There were several thousand hemp plants. Above the plants are being removed from the boxes. We bought some groceries. We stopped at Roper's where I bought a two PVC parts and dropped of a lot of large PVC parts. They talked like they would buy them.
We came home and I began to mow the lawn. I emptied the gas can in the lawn mower. I then put the empty gas can in the car trunk.
The grass was really tall in some places. I mowed the lawn. I filled the grass catcher before I made one complete trip around the yard. It took me a couple of hours to finish mowing. I dumped the bags five times. I spread on the west end of they composting pile. I didn't do any trimming.
The guys left and I took a picture of the contents of the shade house.
We went to Fillmore to get some gas for the lawn mower and for the car. We also bought five more geraniums.
I also bought some calking. I spread it thickly around the edges of this piece. I then pushed it onto the pipe and held for a short time. It seemed to stick. I checked it several times during the afternoon and once in the evening. I hope to cut a hole tomorrow evening.
It took me most of the afternoon to do the watering. Every thing was pretty dry. I had a couple hoses running at the same time. I went from one to another. I dug a few weeds. The peas, corn, and cucumbers were really dry.
Here the sweet corn is starting to come up. We planted it nearly two weeks ago.
Pad three is ready for drilling the holes for the hemp plants.
When I built pad three, i used a lot of gravel. Most of it was pushed to the south side. There was a lot of gravel on it.
Carol and I took a little drive around town. We drove around the cemetery road. There were a lot Sego Lilies.
They are beautiful flowers but the blossom doesn't las long.
When it got a little shady on the kidney. This is where we planted them. Carol placed them where she wanted to plant them. I then dug the holes and but them in. The sprinkler was there for a little over thirty minutes.

Rooted Tomato Plants
I went outside after breakfast and the news. I went out to ask Shane about the my tiller. I met him and the rest of the crew and we had a little meeting. No particular topic.
Shane's wife, Jenifer, was taking some junk out to the dump. There were two sheets of plywood that she would take to the dump. I told her that I would take care of them. I turned one over and it had a squash bug on it.I did a lot of weeding one the north side of the north garden. I was mostly on my hands and knees with a small one handed hoe.
Carol and I planted the Topaz melons which to a full row. They were pretty healthy plants.
There has been five tomato cuttings in a bottle in the kitchen window. They were all rooted except one. I usually put them in a pot for a couple of weeks before putting them in the ground. I put them in the ground and kept a small stream of water running on them for the rest of the day. I checked them tonight and they looked like they had perked up some. I cut the bottom of #2 pots and covered each tomato plant.
I put three clips on the first one.
Then decided that two clips would be just as good. So I put two clips on the other three.
Pad five is ready for planting.
Another pleasant surprise. I found another grape vine that survived the winter. That make three. I dug up all the weeds in the irrigation row.
I needed some sand to heat in the oven to bend a two inch ell. Carol and I drove west of Holden and a little north for sand. There are several sand hills. The best one on the road to ds Bute or some call it sugar loaf. I got a bucket of sand.
The sand didn't work, but boiling water did. I was able to bend the two inch PVC ell. You can see it on the four inch pipe. I hope to drill a hole through and on a cap to turn the water on or of. It will water the asparagus when I get an irrigation turn.
Pad three. Our neighbor to the west brought over a tractor to help get it ready for planting.
I gathered up the one inch PVC pipe. I cut off the bad pieces.
And ended up with quite a few pieces.

Started a Smaller Stool
This pinion pine tree was left here after I finished digging. I wasn't good enough to sell. I cut off the twine that was girdling the tree.
The branches of this pinion were so low and thick, I couldn't get to the twine.
I cut off the branches and then I cold get to the twine. It wasn't to bad. The tree had died and a new branch started at the side.
This was a surprise. These pole beans have had tendrils for some time, but it is now climbing. I removed some of last year plants off the hoop. I dug out the weeds.
There are two piles of plant material. One on the left and one of the right. I moved some of the left stuff to the right.
Above is a photo of the compost on the right, I have water running on it to help in the decaying process.
The following photos are of the planting pads. Most are ready to plant others are in the process of getting ready.
Pad 2
Pad 5
Here is another stool, but it is about ten inches tall. I didn't use any brads, but only glue. I put two of the corner braces in the wrong place. I cut two new ones.

Simple Stool Design
Jim Burns put the tiller on the tractor. The tried to till at Richard Darnell's place, but it wouldn't work. I went over to help them. The switch for the power takeoff needs to be on. He turned it on and still wouldn't work.
He took it back to the our yard and put on the bucket. He was going back and forth between our yard and the street. I don't know what he was hauling. The lawn is really taking a beating.
I started this stool yesterday, but didn't get time to do much. It is made out of two eight foot furring strips. I cut all of the pieces, and began to glue them together. I used my new brad nailer to hold the pieces together. I brads would not go all the way in. I watched several You Tube videos before I was able to get them right. I filed off the top of the brads that didn't go all the way in. Some of the brads came out the side. One brad nailed the leg to the workbench. I used a piece of half inch plywood for the seat. I put the stool upside down on the seat. I drew a line around the inside with a black marker. The i put a bead of glue on the outside edge. A couple of hours later I put a brad through the seat into a rail.
I sanded the top and chamfered the top and out side leg of each leg.
This photo shows the width of the leg and the other on shows the thickness of the leg.
Shane bought a hand held auger. It makes a nice eight inch hole.
They made the desired holes in house five
We drove to the cemetery. The headstone shows a baby that probably lived for one day
I drove to Zion's bank in Fillmore. There was an extra charge on my commercial loan statement. The banker said that he would try to get it waved. I then drove to The State Bank of Southern Utah. Kim wasn't able to fix it.

Sheets, Garden, New Grape Vines
Every other Monday is sheet washing day. All of the sheets and pillow cases were piled up in the laundry room. Carol started the wash and I think that there were three loads. After breakfast we made a potato salad. Carol peeled the potatoes and I pushed them trough the salad maker. She then peeled the eggs and I also pushed them through the salad maker. Last we did the onions. We used the same salad maker with a different piece.
Carol needed an onion. I removed all of the soft onions. Those that started to grow were removed.
I dumped them on the compost pile.
Carol has been planning for a week to make three fruit ice cream for memorial day. We bought two bags of ice, a pint of cream, and a gallon of whole milk. She put all of the ingredients except for the milk last night and kept it in the fridge all night. Carol put it in the freezer. I put in the ice and salt. It took about forty-five minutes for the ice cream to freeze. We imediately dished out two bowels and sat down and enjoyed.
The flags were posted in people's yards. It is a fund raiser for the young men and young women it our ward.
I wrapped the ice cream freezer with several towels and tied it with twine. This keeps it cold for several hours.
The corn is looking kind a yellow. I put a small handful of nitrogen between each plant cluster.
Last summer I planted a row of grape vines. I got some cuttings last year from Miles Batty. They rooted. When I checked them this spring, it looked like they had died. But this afternoon I found two that were growing.
This is the second one.
I poured several gallons of water on the Elder Berry plant. Hope that it will perk up.
Shane and his crew are going to plant hemp in and area on the north side of the grape plants. I started to move the long black pipe to another location.
Pad one. This just west of house five that they are getting ready for hemp.
This is pad two. It is in the corner.
This is pad three. It is south of house six.
They were using my tiller, but before they finished, the tiller quit. It began to surge and lost power when tines were put in the ground. He is going to fix it tomorrow.
