Payson Temple

I was able to post on face book another chapter from the Book of Mormon.  After breakfast and other chores, we got ready to go to the Payson Utah Temple.  We were there a little early.  We then made our way to the sealing rooms.  It was good to be able to participate in the sealing of some of Carols relatives that had passed on.  We then went on a session.   After we finished, we were looking for the Deseret distribution center.  I told Carol how to get there.  I was way wrong.  We then went the right way.  We got gas at Costco and then went to the distribution center where we bought some garments.  We then went straight home.  The weather has been hot.

Watered Garden

I slept in this morning.  I didn't finish reading from the Book of Mormon until this afternoon.  I got the sprinklers going on the lawn.  I kept moving them until noon.

I found another monarch butterfly larva.  It has been eating out of the middle of the leaf.
Every day, I pick some old corn and feed it to the chickens,
I picked the large yellow dahlia for the house.  It was growing in the kidney.
After lunch I mixed up a batch of weed killer.  I sprayed weeds in the orchard and then sprayed the puncture weeds growing east of the truck.  There were lots of them.  Most were small, but there were a few large ones.
The trailer has many broken boards.  This is one of the screws that has to be removed to remove the board.  I don't have one that large.  This means another trip to Fillmore.
Little yellow crookneck squash are starting to develop.
I picked sweet corn for supper.  It is a little old, but really tasted good.

We are going to the Payson Utah temple in the morning.  I got everything watered.  It will be nearly ten when turn off the hose.

More Monarch Larva

I was up early this morning.  It was still dark.  I showered and read a chapter in the Book of Mormon.  As it was getting light, I fed the cats.

I found the same Monarch butterfly larva that I found several days ago.
One of the larger ones is crawling on a grass leaf.
This is the smallest one.  That makes a total of three.  There is a lot of poops on the lower leaves.
I am feeding the cats by the garage door.  The flies hang around the cat food which keeps them out of the house.  I picked another batch of tomatoes.  I went to the dentist this afternoon.  They did an ex-ray that went all the way around my jaw.  The dentist will call me in a couple of weeks.

Went to Church

After breakfast I walked through the garden.  All was well.  I read another chapter in the Book of Mormon.  It was soon time to go to church.  The speakers did well.  Our priesthood class went well.

I picked some corn for dinner.  After dinner we watched the channel eleven TV shows.  They are always interesting and inspiring.  We went to bed fairly early tonight.

Removed Old Pea Vines

After I was up and dressed, I started the water running.  I had two hoses running on the front lawn and also on the east lawn.  After breakfast, I watched two of the woodworking shows.  As soon as they were over, I took care of the chickens.  They were out of water and food.  The water can was really dirty.  I sprayed it off with the hose and filled it with clean water.  The container holding the pellets contained a lot of dirt.  I got the shop vacuum and sucked out all of the dirt.  I then filled it nearly to the top.

I let the chickens back in.  They immediately began to eat and drink.
I began to water the plants in the south garden.  The pepper plants are beginning to grow peppers.
There was three pieces of twine to keep the wind from blowing the corn over. I removed the twine and wound it around this device.
The cucumber plants are growing taller every day.  I tied them higher up the twine and added a couple more hooks and twine.  They need a drink.  I turned on the water.
I here is a photo of the cucumbers.
I looked over to the green giant bean plants.  There were hundreds of blossoms.  It looks like we may get a crop of beans.
I removed all of the welded wire that held the pea vine off the ground.  I rolled it up.  It is ready for next spring.
This is how it looked after removing the welded wire.  I dug up most of the tall/big weeds.  I then cut them down with my weed eater.  I got my pitch fork and removed the weeds and put them on the compost pile.  There were some weed left.  I got the weed eater cut the down to the dirt.
There was dirt everywhere.  I brought out two extension cords.  I blew away the dirt with my blower.   I didn't plan on doing that when I got up this morning.
Another surprise.  We went for a ride around town.  When we pulled onto the driveway,  Carol stopped the car to dead head the geraniums.  While doing that, she saw a monarch butterfly larva.  It is in the above photo.
I stepped into the flowers to get a picture.  I found another one on the same plant.  It's in the above photo.
After supper, I dug up a large puncture vine.  I think that it was for feet long.

Porch Light Fixed

I had all of the parts to finish installing the new light.

I attached the ground wire to the green screw.  It went quite well.  I hooked the black wire to the brass screw and then the white wire to the silver screw.  It took a couple of tries, but eventually I got it.  There were two screws that would hold the light fixture tight when screwed in tight.  The screws were too small.  I drove to Fillmore and got some screws the next size larger.  I came right home.  The screws fit but the head was too large to fit through the hole.  I was able to put the screw through the hole, I then tightered the screws.
I pushed the wiring into the box.  I screwed the light bolb into the fixture.  I removed the tape that covered the switch.  I turned the switch on.  Success, the light came on.
The green giant pea seeds are beginning to come up.
I picked four ears of corn.
Carol has been complaining about the weeds between the road and our yard.  I started up the lawnmower, set the height as high as it would go and then mowed all of the weeds.  They were mostly redroot and rag weeds.
I cut as much of that as possible with the lawnmower and then finished with the weed eater.
I got most of these weed with the lawnmower.  I used the weed eater to cut the weeds where it was rocky, and the lawnmower couldn't reach them.  This picture is to the east.  Carol was pleased.
Carol asked me to clean the leaves and stuff.  I put back a little piece of weed barrier to keep the cats from pooping there.
I picked the dry Salvia Dorri blossoms.  I couldn't find any seeds.

Almost Fixed

After breakfast I turned on the water for the east lawn and on the lawn west of the driveway.

I bought two square sprinklers yesterday.  The above photos are of the sprinklers.
I prepared some killzal concentrate for spraying weeds.  Mostly bindweed or morning glory.  It took me a half hour to remove the lid from the container.  The directions on the lid were hold it down and turn it counterclockwise.  Finally, I simply pulled the lid off.    I the sprayed the weeds in the north garden.  I then went to Fillmore and bought two small drill bits for drilling in concrete.  I then went to Stuart Electric and bought some black ink for my printer.

Fixing Porch Light

I had the sprinklers on the back lawn all night.  As soon as I was dressed, I put on a small head lamp and walked out the front door and turned off the water.  After breakfast I watered some of the plants in the garden.   I turned on the sprinklers on the south end of the east lawn. I also watered the geraniums.   I spent the first part of the morning trying to print a picture for Carol.  I used about five sheets of photo paper and didn't get a good picture.  We went to Fillmore.  I got some electrical fixtures for the light on the back porch.  Carol let me off at Stuart electric.  I got a box of colored ink.  I walked across the street to the Fillmore Market and joined up with Carol.  When we got home I put the new ink into the printer.  I printed the photo on a sheet of paper.  I still didn't print right.

I covered the light switches with duct tape to prevent anyone from turning the switch.  I then removed the old light fixtures.
I cleaned away the dirt.  I had to drill two holes for the white electrical box.  The first hole went through the mortar.  That was easy.  The other one was through the brick.  It was much harder.  I ruined two concrete bits.  I was a little over halfway.  I am getting two new bits tomorrow.   We had a nice rainstorm in the late afternoon.  The two buckets by the front door were filled with rainwater.  I have a pan on the patio to measure the water.  It looked as if there was two quarters of an inch of water. It was good for the garden.  Carol made some good spaghetti for super.

Payson Utah Temple

Again, I was up early and read from the Book of Mormon.  After breakfast I walked through the garden.  I fixed some burpless cucumber vines.

I picked the tomatoes.  There was not as many as there was the last time that I picked.  Later Carol washed them.   We drove to the Payson Utah temple.  We put on our white temple clothes.  We then met in the chapel.  The session started at ten.  We walked into the instructional room.  There was a person in every chair and a few extra chairs were brought in.  After the session was over, we bought gas at Costco.  There were no lines like there usually is.
We then went to Steve Regan in Spanish Fork.  I bought some weed killer.  I was able to buy one gallon.  It is in the above photo.
I cleaned away the cobwebs on the back porch.   I then tried to fix the porch light.  It looks pretty ugly.
I need to get a box for the light.  I hope to get that tomorrow.

Mowed the Lawn

As soon as I finished eating, I checked the garden and then moved all of the hoses off the lawn.  I checked the oil in the lawn mower and brought it over to the garage.  The gas was low.  The gas can that I had, was nearly half full.  I filled the lawnmower and began mowing.

I mowed past this dahlia in the kidney and knocked it off.  I put in a vase for Carol.
My first load of grass and leaves.
I put all of the grass clippings and leaves in a big composting pile.
I mowed the front yard.
And then the east lawn.
And the back yard.
This is some of the water that we collected that run off the roof.  I water the hanging baskets and plants on the porch.
The burpless cucumbers are pretty dry.  I am training them to follow the twin.  I started watering the plants in the south garden.
I watered the dry Topaz melons.
Our cat Dusty has been missing for a couple of weeks.  I was waiting for the water to run down the rows.  Dusty came by while I was sitting in a chair.
Another photo of dusty.
Corn on the cob is always a favorite.  I picked these this evening and Carol cooked them.  She ate one and I ate the others.
