Mowed Lawn & Finished Stool

After breakfast I killed about seven yellow jackets.  Some of them were in the shed and the others were in the hen house. I removed the the hoses and started mowing the grass in the front yard.  The oil was normal.  The grass was quite tall.
The corn is growing.
The first load of grass was put around the geraniums below Carol's bedroom window.  Later in the day I run the sprinkler on them for over an hour.   The sun should bleach the grass clipping.
Dumped the next two loads on top of the wild lettuce that I pulled yesterday in the raspberry patch.
The trunk of the Dracaena had died. I cut it off.
The earwigs are thick in the dahlia flowers.  I sprayed all of them with and insecticide.

I picked a bunch of  burpless cucumbers.  The are going to the post office, "share the harvest"
The wheel barrow was in the shed and it was falling apart.  I fixed it a couple months ago.  I planned to fix it again.   It was in terrible shape.  All of the wood needed to be replaced,  The barrow was full of big holes.  It would take a long time to fix it.
I finished the stool that i started to make yesterday.  It is seventeen inches tall.  For some reason there is a bad photo.

Weed Be Gone

Yesterday, I had a hose running in the raspberries for an hour to soften the soil.  There were a lot of wild lettuce growing.  They were easy to pull out of the wet soil.

I also dug out a lot of weeds on both sides of the grape plants south of the shed.
I piled the weeds in spaces where they were no raspberry plants.
I planted corn a week ago today, Thursday.  I went out to plant some more, and saw that the corn had come up.
I planted a new batch today.   I made some small holes with the shovel and planted three corn seeds.  I covered them with compost.  That was what I did last week.
I picked a few beans.  The red runner beans are blooming.

I took two photos.
I was tryin to take the photos and go this selfie with my hand covering part of the camera opening.
I had the hardest time cutting this piece of plywood into a square.  I held it next to my framing square and it was out of square by 1/16 of an inch.  I watched a video to see how to make adjustments two the fence.  It was a little help.  I finally got it square.  I started with about thirteen inch nearly square.  I ended with a 11 and 1/16 sides.
I cut down the hollyhocks and put them in one of the compost piles.  The seeds were following all over the place.

Finished the Third Stacking Stool

I went to the south garden to water the corn, tomatoes, and burpless cucumbers.
While the water was running I pulled the Detroit Red beats.  I cleaned them near the patio using spray gun attached to the garden hose.  I then pulled off all the dead leaves.
I picked at least a dozen cucumbers.   We then took them to the post office.  Betty Turner was there.  She didn't grew her own cucumbers, but she didn't have any beats.
There was panel made of poultry wire.  It was laying on the ground and I walked across it every time I went to the garden.  I took it apart and put the wood away.
I rolled up the wire and put it away.   I did a lot of weeding south of the shed.  There were a lot of tall wild lettuce in the grape
The transplant grape vines are doing well.  I clipped one to the horizontal wire in both directions.
I put pine edge on all four sides.  It covers the ugly edge of the plywood.  I cut it with three of four passes across the saw blade.   The first ones were on the edge.  Then I put the legs close to the fence and is  couple more.  I glue and pinned the edge, but It slipped.  I had to take it off and do it again.
I have four boxes of fire wood or kindling and I need to get rid of it.
I took this photo at the post office.  We have some kittens to give away.

I turned the sprinklers on late last night.  They ran all night.

Big Stool Mistake

I went out to water the lawn this morning, but everything looked pretty wet.  We had a good rain yesterday evening.
Every morning the cats and kittens are on the back porch waiting to be fed.  It is hard to step out of the kitchen without stepping on one of the kittens.
I finished one of the stacking stools yesterday.  I have not been able to build them scare.  It helped when I had opposite rails the same length.   I cut out the seat a little larger than needed.  I always put on my dark safety glass whenever I turn on the saw.  Because of the dark glasses I couldn't see the direction of blade and cut out s piece of the seat. I then carefully trimmed the edges down to size.  The one in the photo has a large seat.  I set the miter gage at ninety degrees to match the angle of the seat.
It looked pretty bad.  You can see on the bottom edge.  I tried to fix it using a router.  That didn't work.  I used my cordless circular saw.  It looked worse.  I then nibbled away the ugly part on the table saw making a rabbit.

I cut out a piece of wood the same size as the rabbit.  The glue and pinned it into place.

I did the same for the other two sides.  The fourth side is for tomorrow.

Oleaha and Gary

Fool Creek

After morning chores I began to work in the garage.  I cut some pieces of 2x2's for the legs of my stacking stools.  I am making three.  I need twelve legs and twelve rails.  I was using recycled wood.

We then drove to Fool Creek.  The purpose of the trip was to see the Hemp operation.  Fool Creek was further south of Oak City than we thought.  We found the place.  The house had been remodeled some.  Richard Johnson, our soon,  lived there for a short time while he worked.   In back of the house there was thirty acres of hemp plants.

There had been many fires there that burned on both sides of the road and up the mountains.  We then drove back to Oak City.  When we got there we drove up and the streets.  There were a lot of new homes and many of the were very big.

We got home it was time for lunch.  After lunch I worked more on the stacking stools.  Later I drove to Fillmore for some medication and went to Roper's for five firing strips.  It rained quite hard on the way home, and the ground seems to be quite wet.  I needed them to be able to finish the stools.  I got all of the parts cut and trimmed the legs to the right diameter.  I cut the legs to the same length of about seventeen inches.
Not a good picture.  My phone moved slightly when touched the shutter button.  The last project for the day was planting zucchini plants.  The seeds I ordered arrived today.  I planted 36 zucchini seed in six six packs and covered them with wet burlap.

Planted Blue Lake Bush Beans

I started trailing sprinkler on the front lawn east of the sidewalk.

Yesterday, I sprayed and dug up a lot of puncture weeds.  This morning I raked them up and found more that I missed yesterday.  I sprayed those that were growing in the rocks.  I got a digger and dug all of those up.  I put then in the above large nursery can and put them in the garbage can in the garage.  Later we took them to the dump.
I cut one broccoli, pulled some beats. and pulled a good bunch of carrots. The carrots are a good size.
I cut down one big bunch of hardy Pampas grass, I was able to uncover some dahlias that were hiding under the huge leaves.
One of the large Pampas grass is gone.
I made several trips to house five for potting soil.  Finally I brought back screened potting soil.   It was powder dry.  I pored water on the six packs, and it just run off.  I dumped it on the patio and watered it.  Then I mixed it with the soil and watered more.  I let it set for a couple of hours.
I made depression in each cell with my finger.   I brought out the seeds earlier and in the hot sun they dried out.  I had to get new seeds.
I put a fresh seed in each cell
I covered the seeds and put this wet piece of burlap on the tray.  I then watered it again.

Unexpected Visitors

I wanted to start the trailing sprinkler this morning. As soon as it was light, I started the sprinkler.  When I came back into the house we started breakfast.    I walked out to check if there were any new earwigs.
I took the picture of this dahlia blossom.  It is the first one.
Being July 24, I put out the flag.
The wind was blowing over some of the corn in the south garden.  I put up another strand of twine on both sides of the corn to keep it from blowing over.  The lower strand of twine was blue and the higher one is orange.
Our surprize visiter showed up.  The called about an hour before they got here.  In the photo is Lisa, Dax, Britney, and Emi who is in a chair behind Lisa.  Britney and dax are wearing masks.
Before they left I took the picture in front of the used car that they bought.  The picked it up in St. George.
 I got two photoes.
I put up the fourth trellis wire training the burpless cucumbers.
I mulched the bush beans with some grass clippings.  Why?   To see if it would have any effects on the earwigs.
This evening I sprayed puncture weeds with round up.
I dug up more puncture weeds.  There were a lot of them north of house three.
Some of  the tomato plants in the south garden were branching.  I tied up some of the branches.
